Thank you much /audiophile for all the tips and knowledge you guys share about speakers, cables, amps, and much more everyday it made picking the equipment for my first dedicated audio setup much easier then it should have been.

 The music sounded very good but again it was not loud..This would have been great set up if I had the budget to buy an amplifier. I still don't understand why every AVR menu is not at all User friendly and having a UI like stone age

It's OK,Not  loud.

 At higher volumes it was the explosions like those which would be the first frequencies to distort. It's also important to note that like with any other Denon receiver this thing runs pretty hot so you'll need ample ventilation for it. Overall the receiver performed well during all my tests even though I did my best to push it as hard as I could. Movies with a lot of atmosphere like Blade Runner 2049 just made the high speakers come alive

 With the sub enabled and an 80Hz crossover for my speakers the distortion disappeared. Lower frequencies like explosions require a lot more power than higher frequencies so having the right crossover for your speakers is pretty important to prevent that. Another test scene I like to use is the Las Vegas scene in Blade Runner 2049. The scene has some great dynamics transitioning from silence to just pure chaos in a split second and I wanted to see how it handled that and handle it it did

Dynamic shifts like the one in that scene came across very well and even without a subwoofer there was an ample low end kick from the explosion when the mines and the hallways exploded. Though it sounded great at normal volumes, you know the levels that won't threaten your hearing

I want one but hesitate as the last two players I have had were crap no matter how clean the disks were.

They were just 1080p BR mind you, but neither were consistent and often would not play content. Current one is a Panasonic 1080p which I don't bother to use for this reason.

If anyone hasn’t gotten one yet and has been considering it I suggest the Sony x800m2. It can be had for as little as 100 bucks on eBay and has lots of nice features, and no clutter on the home screen. If you’re like me and don’t need any more streaming boxes it’s the perfect unit

I was really interested in some of the Panasonic models because they do SDR tone mapping. For the real experience I would need to upgrade everything from TV, AVR and cabling as am still living life in 1080p.

I had the series x but it lacks Dolby vision. I picked up the Sony one that has Dolby vision. It works much better then my series x in terms of playback and ease of use.

Shield Pro and Plex for me. Only issue I seem to have currently is getting Dolby vision to work correctly, but that's not really worth yet another box under the TV for me!

Reminder for everyone to buy a 4k blu ray player!

Sound is not bad for the money. Paired with B&W x7 with front speakers bi-amped. Would rate higher but customer support is really lacking. Will not connect via bluetooth when trying with S9, Tab 4 or Google 3

 So like my wife does like a workout that's on OpenFit app on Roku and that's all going through the Denon obviously and then to the TV. So she's doing a workout there. So the TV is pretty much on almost all day and so the Denon's been handling it without issue. So as far as speakers, I've had the AVR Power 9 speakers, whether they were the Martin-Logans or the Elacs or the Klipsch, it handled them without issue and when I'm running the Martin-Logans, it's, you know, two 6-ohm speakers, two 5-ohm speakers, a 4-ohm speaker and then four 8-ohm speakers and, you know, we had this running all day long without issue, no excessive heat

 There's an Xbox all plugged in there and I did have a PlayStation 4 plugged in because I wanted to see how good Final Fantasy 7 Remake looked on the OLED, of course, with awesome sound. So it's being used a lot and during this quarantine period, it's being used even more.  I put the Elacs, I got the center channel for the new debut reference. So I had the Elac front stage with the, you know, surrounds are still the Martin-Logans and, of course, the prime elevation speakers are the SVS and I also popped the RF-73s back into place along with the RC-64-3 and with all three speaker configurations, I felt like this AVR did a great job of handling it. So if you don't want to, you know, add an amplifier, you don't really need to, especially depending on how big your space is. My space, pretty big, 4,200 cubic feet

4 configuration, we need to change the top assign mode to 11.1. Once we do that, layout needs to be five channel and surround back, go down to height, change that to four channels, and you'll notice a pre-out section at the bottom. Select your height channel layout for me front height and front and rear, then select which speakers you will power externally, front or rear height
