 A lot of the other companies are doing internal cable riding where frankly if you're not an experienced bike mechanic you wouldn't want to work on it but I think that Diamondback is really making these bikes where you could expect to take it home and if you were thus inclined be able to work on your own bike. You have the SRAM NX drivetrain which is going to give you a really good full range, it's the 1x11, hydraulic disc brakes, a lot of people they're going to press fit bottom brackets some places but again this is a cup and this is a very easy thing to service on your own, it doesn't require expensive tools really to service so again if you want to get a really good quality hard tail that you're going to be able to service, it comes from a cool brand and a lot of people like to test bike sacks so I recommend checking them out but if you do buy Diamondback, especially Diamondback Mason 2, please buy it here at our shop, you can go to Middletown Cycling or MiddletownCycling.com, you can call us at 502-384-0770 but we're pretty easy to find online, get in touch with us if you saw the Diamondback Mason 2 here, please buy it from me and if you're police, fire, military we also give a discount.  Some good hydraulic brakes. Good derailleur. You got a dropper seat post. A lot of these other ones at that price range, entry level bikes, you're not even getting a dropper seat post

 They're 2.8 inches and you're getting a RockShox Judy Golds 120 mil and 1 by 11s. Some good hydraulic brakes. Good derailleur

Badass Fat Bike

 It's insane. It takes a lot to break traction with these plus-size 2.8s. However, the rubber isn't super durable, and I would not recommend going tubeless in the rear

 But again, this bike was designed more for a relaxing Sunday morning flow trail, and it feels pretty great on them. Enough of the geometry talk, let's get to the components. Towards the end of the season, the freehub body failed, and it no longer functions properly. This made the bike completely unrideable, and it really sucked

 Towards the end of the season, the freehub body failed, and it no longer functions properly. This made the bike completely unrideable, and it really sucked. Something broke inside of it, and it now jiggles around and makes terrible noises. The drivetrain is about what you would expect from this price point, and that price point being $16

Lets start with the bones of the bike, the frame geometry. The head angle is 68 degrees. that is steep. While we all know head, angles do not define bikes, they also cant be ignored.

 While it climbs like a champ and pedals well, once you start pointing your nose down a trail, things can get pretty sketchy. Again, while I’m sure this bike isn’t designed for technical descents, its nice to have a bike that can do most things well instead of having drastic strengths and weaknesses.

Another notable element of this bike's geometry is the reach figure. A size large comes with a reach of 451. I’m not going to go as far as to say that this geometry is outdated, because this is entirely preference so ill give you objective and subjective points.

Objectively, a bike with a shorter reach will feel more playful which this bike does. It will feel easy to move around and get into the air. A bike with a longer reach may suffer in those areas but will also feel more stable and confidant especially on descents.
Subjectively, this bike does feel pretty great in the air. The bike feels smooth and natural off lips and over rollers. I can definitely bunny hop this bike a lot better than my new bike, but there may be more than the different reach figures at play.

These two factors would not be major issues on their own but the shorter reach and steep head angle amplify each other to make things real sketchy when things get bumpy. The head angle struggles to absorb chunky terrain, transmitting more energy towards the rider. Because of the short reach, these bumps create an overwhelming sense that you are a couple unexpected bumps away from going over the handlebars.

But again, this bike was designed more for relaxing Sunday morning flow trails and feels great on them. 

Enough of the geometry talk, lets get to the components. Towards the end of the season the freehub body failed and no longer functions properly. This made the bike completely unrideable and really sucked. Something broke inside of it and now it jiggles around and makes terrible noises. Before you call me a bad mechanic, I took it to multiple bike shops and spoke to diamondback about the issue and all sources said that it required replacement. 

The drivetrain is about what you would expect from this price point. It’s an 11 speed Sram NX groupset with a 42T cassette. Yes, that isn’t 50, but the fact that it’s a hardtail and has 2.8 inch tires makes climbing just as easy as my trail bike if not easier. 

That brings us to the tires. If you are coming from an entry level bike, these tires will feel like they have unlimited grip. It takes a lot to break traction with these plus sized 2.8’s. However, the rubber isnt super durable and I would not recommend going tubeless in the rear. I had a massive rupture in the first month of riding this bike disabling it from ever being able to hold air again. After I threw a tube in there and pumped it up to around 35psi, flats began much less frequent. Yes that is sacrificing grip, but with 2.8 inch tires you will still have plenty. 

The fork is a rockshox judy gold which is the mean reason I bought this bike over the Trek roscoe. Well that and other reasons. 
The fork has 120mm of travel which is decent but if suspension is your main sticking point, there are definitely other, better options to be had at this price point. More on that alternative options later. 
When the fork air pressure is tuned to your liking, it feels pretty good and needs to in order to compensate for that head angle. 

The dropper is pretty sweet as not all bikes of this price come with one, however the stock lever is pretty awful and is one of the things I definitely would recommend swapping. That may seem like a nitpick but you have to be riding this bike everyday to truly understand what a difference a good dropper lever makes. 

The rims are pretty bulletproof and I had no issues with them what so ever. They are 35mm wide to fit the wide tires properly and because of that have extra resistance to torsional force aka surprise Mexican food. 

Those are my biggest points to make with the components so lets blast through the rest.
The grips are complete garbage and get hairy after 20 or so rides
The pedals are fine
The cranks need to be kept tight or they might get wear down and get stripped
The bars are nice and wide
The brakes are ok
And The seat is awesome. Super cumfy for a house brand saddle
