Dunlop Jazz III

The grip on these two, I'd say that's probably the biggest downfall to these Jazz 3s, as we know them like this, however they do make MaxGrip versions...

When I was starting out, I kept dropping picks, couldn't stand the thin standard pick. The Jazz III has raised letters which act as a grip, the thickness made it easier to play for me and the sharp point helped attack the strings better or something.

The rigidity meant that less of my picking motion/energy was wasted in the flex of the pick, and so I felt more efficient. Honestly, anytime I use another pick, I find it really unpleasant now. I'm not saying you should definitely use a Jazz III, but it's definitely worth giving it a go. Also, the top half the pick has a rough texture, which makes gripping it easier (this might vary based on the brand - I happen use the John Petrucci ones).

In a nutshell, he said that the Jazz III does not allow one to pick faster per se, but rather the sensation of picking faster and with less resistance as a result of its shape, bevel, and point. This also results in a stronger pluck on the string. This is especially more noticeable with “higher degrees of edge picking” — in other words, picking with the pick at an angle instead of close to or parallel to the string. What does this give us?
