 It's not super short, we're not slalom short, but I like that turn radius for a ski like this because it just gives you a more, just more rewarding experience, in my opinion. You know, if we're not in a race course and we're not shaving like milliseconds off of our race times, it doesn't matter, you know. The goal of a ski like this is to have fun, to give yourself that rewarding skiing experience and having a kind of shorter turn radius just means the ski is going to come across the fall line a little bit more easily, just feel a little bit more responsive, a little quicker. I like that

 It kind of does that with a carving mentality, like no matter what the snow conditions are or how soft it is, it's always going to kind of lean towards the carving side of the spectrum. But I think what's great about it is it allows you to ski with that style kind of no matter what the conditions are. So say you get some fresh snow, say the groomers are kind of chopped up at the end of the day, this ski won't get bogged down. You're less likely to boot out if you're at a high edge angle because you've got a little bit more width underfoot

 Super, super fun ski. You know, it's kind of squarely in that mid-80 all-mountain category, but with its shape and its overall feel, to me, it leans kind of towards the carving side of the spectrum. So if you love carving and you have pretty high demands as a carving skier, this is a great choice, especially for somebody who doesn't want the limitations of a narrower race-like ski or something in the low 70s or something like that. This Wingman 86 CTI will handle a nice wide range of snow conditions

 From a shape perspective, this ski, or the Wingmans in general, kind of looking at shape is maybe where we see the biggest departure from Ripsticks. We do have longer camber in these Wingman skis, and not quite as much tip rocker, although hopefully you can see on camera that we do have a decent amount of tip rocker up here. It starts about where my hand is. Kind of the big thing here is we don't have any early taper

Hello everyone!

I'm looking to buy my first pair of skis for my trip to val d'Isère this winter. I don't know how good of a skier i am but i like speed and feel comfortable pretty much everywhere except on icy blacks. I've also been practicing carving which i really enjoy. I'm pretty athletic and i measure 173cm(5'8) and weigh 64kg(140lbs). Previously i have basically only used carving skis but  I'm interested in a pair of all mountain skis. I won't have the opportunity to test ride any ski, but i'm confident that i will be satisfied with whatever i end up buying.

I've been looking primarily at the blizzard rustler series, mostly because I've gotten the impression that they're fun and playful. Previously i haven't ridden a lot off piste but i believe i will be doing that a fair bit more in the future. However, i will probably be riding in piste most of the time and i want a ski that works well for that and which also works okay off piste. This is where i get the impression that the rustler 10's maybe aren't the right for me and that the rustler 9's would be a better fit. I'm also confused about what length i should go for as some people say the skis feel "short". Right now i'm thinking about 180cm rustler 9 as i believe they are a bit better in piste and the long skis for added stability(and maybe more floaty in powder?). I do, however, feel overwhelmed by all the information and reviews out there. I i know there are a lot of similar threads out there but i just can't make my mind up.

What are your thoughts and recommendation?

Also, what type of bindings, for a good price, do you think would be a good fit?

EDIT: I want to be able to use this ski for a long time. Keep in mind that i will probably put on a fair bit of weight as i get a little older.

Buying my first pair of skis.

 Lots of edge hold up in the shovel, really, really draws you deep into a carve. When you're sitting on the edge you've got tons of edge hold, lots of power, real smooth. It's not a ski that gets nervous but it's also not a ski that you have to push really, really hard to ski all day. So for somebody that's advanced and doesn't necessarily want to have to hammer on their skis all day or that intermediate skier that's really looking to get better quickly, you'll find a really good ski here

 Hi, I'm Thom. I just got done skiing the Elan Wingman 86 CTI and this is a really awesome ski with a huge sweet spot for a ton of different skiers. Really anybody that's an athletic intermediate up through a really, really strong advanced skier is going to hop on this thing and have a lot of fun. But this is an all-mountain ski, and it is an absolutely incredible performer. It's got camber on the inside, rocker on the outside, which means it's really easy to initiate that turn.  Hey, I'm Lanning and I just got off the Elan Wingman 86 CTI. This is a frontside carving machine. It's got a small radius so it's going to want you to just really hook those tight, tight turns. But you can still push it into medium sized turns too so don't be shy of that

 Super stable in the tips, no chatter whatsoever. You have in-fibio profiles so there's a right and left ski dominant. And that combination of metal and carbon in here. You get a lot of stability from the metal but you get the quick, lively snappiness of the carbon, the two together

 Just make for smooth transitions and an absolute groomer slayer. I'd recommend this to advanced expert level skiers. And yeah, any guy who just absolutely wants to rip down the mountain should be looking at the Elan Wingman 86 CTI.

 There's metal reinforcements along just the inside edge, which is pretty cool. You know, Elan has that amphibio profile where there's more camber along the inside edge and more rocker on the outside edge. I'd say it's less pronounced on these than on the rip sticks. Because that whole ski is stiff whereas the rip sticks you're really mastering that one side

 I almost said ripstick because we talked about those skis so much. If you like the Elan story but you're looking for something that's a little bit more precise, a little bit more powerful, with a little bit more edge grip for groomers, maybe you as a skier spend more time on groomers than you do bouncing around in the trees and stuff like that. I think the Wingman is arguably a better choice than something like the Ripstick 88, but as you probably know, I'm a big fan of that ski as well. They have their different applications, which is pretty cool

 Again, that makes it a very smooth entrance and exit to the turn. One sheet of metal in here plus those carbon rods make this a pretty stiff ski. Really responsive, really precise and minimal taper. In that tail, that's going to want to hold on to the turn to the very end

 Probably better served on groomers than in any off-piste situation, but definitely has the capability on the right skier's feet. As such, you should be an advanced expert skier to get the best performance out of these. Certainly the stiffness takes the beginner and lower-end intermediate out of it, but if you're looking for something for frontside, harder snow, and you're looking to progress, there's nothing wrong with this. It is on that stiffer side, but it's not terribly heavy, so it is accessible
