 The pickups in the neck position so it's lovely and fat and warm sounding. With this mahogany body, mahogany neck in a lovely D shape, rosy fingerboard with 20 frets, lovely big chrome tuners and a very big high mass bridge which is bolted directly onto the body via these three screws. It still played alright, and it wasn’t one of those instruments that’s so bad as to actually make your playing worse, but there was just nothing about it that I especially liked, and plenty that I disliked. The sound was fine but it just wasn’t any fun to play.

What’s the most meh bass you’ve ever owned/played?

 The felt or string winding should always be behind the saddle. The sound barley provides a distinguishable sounding note unless you amp or use effects that treble up the sound.. and even then it sounds lousy

. and even then it sounds lousy.. Noisy electronics' that are not properly shielded with poor electronics

 If buying a new Epiphone please trust me one this.. Change the strings!!! I could not find and exact match but the closest I found in gauge were all the same except for the A string being .085 in a set of Ernie Ball Hybrid slinky roundwounds - which worked perfectly

An easy fix to a known flaw - Vast improvement now!!

Epiphone EB-0 Bass Guitar Review

Epiphone EB-0. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on these, I have never owned one, but I have played quite a few I've seen in stores and they don't seem that bad for the price. They do have a very particular tone that a lot of people describe as muddy, but I like the sound haha.

Good short scale bass for under $300 or less?

  If you're expecting the deep rumble of something like a Fender Jazz bass, don't hold your breath because the EB0 is a short scale - it has decent bass, yes, but not that earth moving deep thump. For smaller hands, the EB0 ranks right up there in playability as the Hofner Beatle Bass or one of the short scale Gretsh Bass guitars.  I was a bit disappointed that the guitar required so much user attention/interaction right out of the case, but what came out of it was decent enough. I think the $200

 There's really not an awful lot to talk about because it is so so simple, you really can't get lost here. I've got this heading through the Fender Rumble 40, which I've set to a nice punchy lower mid-range, and I'm just going to be riding the tone control on this, which is a really really nice responsive tone control, just to show off a couple of different sounds.  Hello, Mike here from Rimmers Music in Liverpool, back once again to show you this fantastic Epiphone EB-0 bass. The EB basses are what most people refer to as the SG bass, on account of it's very familiar SG shaped body, it's a mahogany body, it's also a mahogany slim tapered neck, real rosewood fingerboard, which is fantastic at this price point, and an absolutely gorgeous cherry finish, get a load of that. And yeah, it's a fantastic bass, it's an absolutely perfect beginner's bass, for a couple of reasons. First of all, super simple, you've got a volume control, you've got a tone pot, that's it, you've got one humbucking pickup right here in the neck position, which just means it's absolutely set up from the get-go, they're just thunderous low end, but it's also very very short scale compared to most basses, so if you're a guitarist, maybe looking to make the jump, or if you're just starting playing bass and it just feels a little bit big and unwieldy for you at first, yeah this will be a lot more comfortable for you than most basses

Today I was looking at an Epiphone SG E1 Electric Bass Cherry in my local Guitar Center, where they have one used for under $300. I really want a short scale, because I have small hands and I'm struggling to see improvement on certain rhythms that I want to play, and also because I just like having different basses to experiment with. I wanted to try it out a little more but I was honestly close to being ready to buy it--the only thing that stopped me was the local Guitar Center creep getting all up in my business and trying to tell me a long story that this bass reminded him of. I really wanted to get out of there so I cut my losses and am hoping it will be there when I go back, but in the mean time I can do some research and make sure it's not just an impulse buy. Does anyone have any experience with this bass and do you like it? Keep in mind that $300 is basically the most I could comfortably spend on a bass right now lol.

Has anyone played an Epiphone SG E1 bass?

No one believes me but my Epi EB-0 has no neck dive and plays like a dream. For the kind of reggae I play, it's an absolute monster through a PA. With flats, neck pickup, and tone rolled off, it's like an 808 sine wave generator, and I love it.

I've never really understood why the gibson/epiphone sg style basses get so much hate.  Granted I've only tried them in music shops, but they seem like very solid and punchy short scales.
