None of the color depth options make any difference. HDR is set to match content (everything looked like shit before I changed that option, now at least the menus look nice). When HDR is turned on, my projector gets a 4K HDR signal and all of the picture info looks normal, but the picture itself is washed out.

Buy an Epson 5050UB/6050UB now (they're essentially the same projector$2999/$3999 each w/6050 coming with more accessories like a ceiling mount and spare bulb), and replace it when new models are announced and shipping. Visually to me, the additional money to get a JVC NX5/RS1000 didn't feel worth it at the time, but that was with 10 minutes of viewing each.

I use it in a non light controlled living room with white walls. Even with an Epson 6050ub i could not get completely good black levels (but absolutely nice in the evening with the lights off). If you want perfect blacks from a projector, you will need a dedicated light controlled room with dark non reflective walls. Everybody raves about ALR screens, but i personally think they introduce a whole other set of issues (hot spotting, limited viewing angles, screen door effect, etc).
