 It didn’t work for me. I couldn’t get this thing to hold an edge for any reasonable period of time. It performed well for batoning, but in my hands, that’s about all it was useful for. It’s too thick to be useful for slicing tasks, and the blade geometry isn’t great for any smaller carving/feather-sticking tasks

I really tried loving this thing, I just couldn’t.

 It's a little tight at the hilt, so I'm going to have to mod it a bit for smoother removal. Decent belt clip attachment.  The blade is fairly sharp it of the box, but I'll need to do some stropping to bring it up to my sharpness standards. The spine and tang thickness will allow for some decent batonning, but I rarely do that

 I've been using lower priced knives for a while and wanted to upgrade from my Mora collection to something made in the US our if higher carbon steel. This one is definitely more robust than those, but it doesn't have the feel or finesse of a really well-made blade. There are definitely some features to like with the ESEE-4, but nothing that's really jazzing me either. I'm not sure how this blade is made, but I have the distinct feeling that it starts out life as a stamped blank that's then shaped and sharpened

Not sure I see what the hype is all about

I hated the coating. This knife is available with an uncoated blade and had I found one at the price I paid for this one I'd have bought that instead. Luckily, 30 minutes with a gel paint stripper and some elbow grease removed the coating to reveal a decent matte finish underneath.

Its a flat ground blade. Scandi grinds are good for use on wood but don't work nearly as well for food prep and assorted other tasks. Their edge also tends to be a little more delicate IMO. This knife's edge- it came razor sharp- is holding up well so far and shouldn't be too difficult to hone or resharpen

 the second complaint I have is the sheath. The sheath is made of some kind of cheap plastic, it is not made of kydex like it should be. Kydex would have a nice pressure fit, this material has two little knobs on the inside for retention. I notice that the more you use the knife the more the knobs are rubbed down

Don't buy this option, spend a little more money for the good onel!!

Thus knife would be great if not for the handle. Its narrow and square and will run holes in your hand unless you are wearing gloves or have smaller hands. The only way to hold comfortably is when using the choil, which for my hands puts my index finger on the sharpened portion of the blade. The traditional handle was a far better fit for my hand

Consider a different handle

 If large or bigger the handle is way too short and too thin, very uncomfortable to hold. Sheath left black marks on the handle. Wanted so much to like it but disappointed.

I like the knife but the sheath doesn't have a belt hold. The clip is ok but not good for retention. Unless you use Paracord to secure it not sure what esee expects. Others have said to put it between your belt and pants

 The chule. The chule (not sure if spelled correctly) is also too small and because of this the blade runs into your finger cutting it if your not careful..besides these two things the blade is outstanding! Well worth the money! Just remember my cons will not affect everyone and this is just my personal opinion!
