[Request] Help me find a good can opener!

 Thankfully, I'd kept my old Kitchenaid manual can opener. I took it apart, cleaned it and sharpened the wheel with a metal file and knife sharpening rod. Keeping the old Kitchenaid, sending this to Goodwill.

 Sadly, this one falls in the not-so-good category. The handles are short, making it difficult to hold for me and near impossible for my husband's larger hands. It was hard to squeeze the handles closed, and with my mother's smaller, arthritic hands it was impossible for her to hold them closed while trying to use the opener. A can of tuna nearly brought her to tears

I've bone through 2 can openers in as many months.  
The first one had me clenching my hand so  hard it hurt to use and the 2nd one is naturally so weak it fell apart 

Both were around $10 give or take. I'm willing to spend heck $25 if I know it's going to actually work.

We've all heard the advice that circles the internet, mostly geared toward home repair. Buy a cheap set of tools, when one breaks it's because you've used it a lot. Replace the one broken tool with a high quality one.

So, what are the tools that you've purchased that are super high quality and were totally worth it? Alternatively, what's a tool that you said "I'll totally use this, I'm gonna spend $200 on one" and then it mostly lives in a drawer?  


If you're not there yet, what's the super high quality darling that you have your eye on to get, but your existing basic version is still holding on and you can't justify the premature replacement?

For me, the price was reasonable, delivery was prompt and FREE! No complaints from me.

hand operated crank can opener

 And it would be nice to be able to do so without bringing your entire meal prep to a dead stop while you wrestle to get an opening big enough to get the contents out of the can and into a bowl or pan. Was a time you could just detour down the household items isle in the supermarket and grab a basic tool for a couple bucks to get the job done. No more. I've tried expensive, high end openers from the gourmet chef store, trusted brands from my childhood at the hardware store, you name it

Why is it that every hand held can opener I have bought, are absolutely junk? I have tried Swing-a-way, Kitchenaid, OXO, TFal... all failed rather quickly. If someone could point me to one of high quality, I would appreciate it.

Hand held can openers

 Still working after over a year. 2. Basic can opener; easy to use, hard to break 3. Goes in the dishwasher just fine, don't know if it's supposed to, but I've washed it in the dishwasher a dozen times at least and it's fine
