 Tips nice and light for a good swing weight there. Also just, they do a good job of milling it pretty flat here, you know, weight savings as well as adding quickness to the ski. Through the tail, it's a little bit turned up in the tail. Not a ton of rocker

 You know, it's just that really nice average all-around ski, lightweight build, still pretty responsive, you know, not a huge speed limit to these things. I skied this in the 185 and just loved it, just really smooth all over the mountain. So that is the Fisher Ranger 94 FR, available in two different colors, same ski as last year, just that graphics upgrade, and just a great value, great ski for all-mountain skiing.  And this is just a real nice overall ski for a lot of different conditions. We have a nice cutout here, nice and visible ski with the build, showing two metal plates underfoot. Carbon nose goes from the tip and then tapers to the middle, close to that mounting plate. So it makes the forebody of the ski very responsive

 So two different colorways, same ski, available in all lengths. This is a 161, 169 here, the 169 is getting a 16 meter turn radius. And this is just a real nice overall ski for a lot of different conditions. We have a nice cutout here, nice and visible ski with the build, showing two metal plates underfoot

 They have a carbon nose, which is going to help reduce swing weight, but also dampen the ski and make it more responsive and less chattery. And they do have binding reinforcements metal right under the binding in order to help with stability and smoothness through the ride. When we look at the shape, again it's 94 underfoot, so it's a very versatile waist width. And it also has a very fun and versatile shape to it

 You're going to be able to get on edge on a groomer and feel like you can ski all day, especially with the lightweight construction. You're going to be able to feel the pepiness and not be exhausted after a long day of skiing. To reinforce what we were talking about with the construction, I have a ski here without the top sheet, which is pretty awesome. Now, when we talk about who this ski is for, it is definitely geared towards a high intermediate advanced lady leaning towards the expert lady, especially with the 94 waist. Hi all, I've been skiing for about 5 years and I'm looking to purchase my first set up.

I would classify myself as an advanced intermediate skier (level 6 according to this chart - https://skiprofiles.com/the-skiing-skill-levels-discover-yours/)

I ski at Mt Hood Meadows in the PNW. I can ski all blues comfortably and have skied a few black diamonds.  My goal for next season is to ski black diamonds comfortably and and try out some double blacks by the end of the season. I would also like to do some more terrain park skiing. 

I would say that I would spend my time 50% on piste/30% off-piste and 20% in the terrain park.

So I want a ski that I can progress into and that has a high ceiling. I would honestly prefer if the ski was a bit difficult initially and forced me to refine my technique.

I am a woman, 5'8" and 125 lbs, so I'm lighter than average for my weight which has made me think twice when it comes to selecting skis. 

Here is a list of skis I've tried and my thoughts on them. 

Rossi Experience 76 - 160: It's a ski!

Salomon QST Myriad 85 - 161 cm: Fun to carve on groomers, felt stable/nice weight. I would've sized up if I didn't plan on going into the trees.

Volkl Secret 92 - 163 cm: felt really stable but also fatiguing. 

Rossignol Black Ops Smasher 92 -160: Easy to ski but felt very meh and was unstable.

Atomic Maven 93 - 163?: Demoed a shorter length because that's all they had. Felt unstable on variable snow and made me nervous. Maybe the 174 would have been better.

Rossignol Black Ops Smasher 92 - 170: Easy to carve, fun to skid around. I didn't have to pay attention much while on this ski. Felt more stable than the 160 but skiing crud was still impossible.


These are some of the skiing I'm considering. I'm pretty budget-concious right now so that might explain the randomness of selection. I want something 90- 99 mm underfoot, I think something wider would be too hard on my knees while carving.

Advice/input on first pair of all-mountain PNW skis

 Yeah, and that tip's pretty, you know, that'll bring you right into a lot of deep snow, you're not going to get the same flotation out of the waist, but you know, we get a lot of people looking for that one pair of skis that does it all, and I definitely think that mid-90s underfoot is kind of right in that range, whereas that 102 might be a little wide for your everyday ski, especially here in Stowe, but this is a great middle-of-the-road width and shape for those skiers that are looking for that one pair of skis that does it all. And then kind of one thing that I just can't, personally I can't ignore this about these skis, they are more of a twin tip than not, in the written portion of this article I brought up a friend of mine who happens to also be a co-worker, Noah, basically I'm a part-time free ski coach on the weekend, do a lot of slope style based coaching, Noah is the head coach of the program, he's been on Fisher for a really long time, and there were some years when he kind of had to balance his skiing between a narrower, really park specific ski, and then something wider that didn't have a twin tip, flat tail, whatever, he went through a bunch of different skis, but he was psyched when the 102 FR came out because it kind of gave him the ability to be on one pair of skis all the time, he can ski big mountain, he can take athletes into the woods and ski trees, and then he can also ski a little bit of park, and he was lucky enough to get his hands on a pair of these, he's been skiing these for three weeks or so, it just took that and even enhanced it a little bit further, he's pushing 40, I think you and Noah are around the same age, around the same age, and for somebody that age, park skiing is never easy, but as you get older it's even harder and harder, and Noah's been having a blast on these, I believe he did mount them a little bit forward from the recommended line, which is something that I played around with too, this is a demo binding, so I put myself a little bit more forward in it, played around with how they perform skiing switch, but definitely the type of ski where if you kind of have a park background or you want to get into the terrain park every once in a while or just play and kind of do tricks off natural hits, really good choice for that, and it kind of feels like companies are starting to make more skis like that as the whatever you want to call it, park skiing generation, whether it's my generation or yours or somewhere in between, as we age we still kind of want that fun, playful ski, but more performance driven than a traditional park ski, but Noah's been having a blast on them, so I thought that was something that we should touch on is they do have that ability to fill that role for a pseudo park skier, washed up park skier, whatever you want to call it, but yeah, that's the Ranger 94 FR, anything you want to add Bob? No, I mean most of my switch skiing comes inadvertently or in the woods or skiing with the kids and watching them going backwards, but it is a nice feature to have just to have for a playfulness or I mean it's useful in the woods to be able to you know make one turn up, it's kind of a K turn and back down, so you can find your own use for a turned up tail, whether it's park or just ending up backwards somehow, but yeah just a great versatile ski that has high performance ceiling and it just keeps bumping up, the more you put into it the more it's going to put out, so it's just a really great balanced all around nice, freeride ski. Yeah, and I think the one thing I'll end with that I don't think we touched on yet, it is a twin tip, but there's also still that flat spot on the tail where you can put a skin clip on there, so it just is a nod to the versatility of these skis. Yeah, it's another point

 - elan Ripstick 88 or 96 - very light and very fun. Bindings - don’t overthink it and get Tyrolia attack; solid and affordable and lots of color options if that’s your thing.

I've been snowboarding all my life but finally made the switch to skiing last year and it was amazing. I should have been skiing the whole time.

I live in Michigan and I go 3-5 nights a week to the ski resorts in Northern MI, so I was able to get my skiing skill up pretty well in my first season.

Last season I was using some 20 year old K2's that were too tall for me, but they got the job done. I'd really like to get some skis that will do me well this time around.

I do a ton of groomers ranging from green to double black (I'm told most of our double blacks are like blacks or blue squares out west though). I did the small terrain park a ton - boxes, jumps, rails, and I did a little bit of the bigger jumps in the medium terrain park. We have a good amount of trees/glades so I'd really like something that can get me around those without me having to force all my energy into doing the sharp turns. This was the biggest drawback to my current skis I feel.

I'm 5'10" (178cm), 170 pounds. I need skis, bindings, and probably newer boots as mine are pretty old, but they fit well. Size 11.5 mens.

Newer skier looking for an intermediate ski package

Fischer Alpine | Ranger 94 FR

Hello I am looking for a 70/30 ski in around 90mm width. I like to charge hard on groomers but also really enjoy trees, glades and bumps at a moderate speed. I also want something I can plow through chop on the resort. I am 174cm, 160ish lbs and ski at an intermediate advanced level usually around the PNW.

So far my quiver is: 18/19 Blizzard Rustler 10 and 19/20 K2 iKonic 84 non-ti. I am usually on the Rustlers for most of my outings but they do lack a top end on the groomers. I got the iKonics for a good deal. They lay down a good carve, push through chop and can handle a few inches of snow. But they also get pretty iffy going all out on the groomers and not the best in the bumps/trees.

I am looking at the Dynastar 90 m-pro, Salomon Stance 90 or the Armada Declivity 92 ti no greater than 180cm length. This ski will potential replace the K2s. The only ski I have demoed close to this list is the Salomon but in 96 at 182cm and found them to be what I am looking for.

I am looking at the Dynastar 90 m-pro, Salomon Stance 90 or the Armada Declivity 92 ti no greater than 180cm length. This ski will potential replace the K2s. The only ski I have demoed close to this list is the Salomon but in 96 at 182cm and found them to be what I am looking for.

Help with ski quiver

 I don't know anybody that would have a hard time on this ski. If Mike can ski it, any kind of turn shape you want to do, the Fisher Ranger 94 FR, I think that's it, I think that's all that works.

We're here at Norquay today, skiing on a little bit of fresh snow, a little bit of hard pack. So we're looking at a Fisher Ranger freeride in a 94

 This is on the side of the trail where the snow is a little soft, it's nice, it's playful. This is a ski that is just so effortless. I don't know anybody that would have a hard time on this ski.  There's no titanium in the top sheet or bottom sheet, it's made with a beechwood poplar, so it's kind of light, it's got a nice swing weight, carbon nose, carbon tail, a little bit of rocker, really an easy ski, a lot of fun. I'm a fan of a little bit of a wider ski, but I could get away with skiing this. This is on the side of the trail where the snow is a little soft, it's nice, it's playful. This is a ski that is just so effortless

FISCHER RANGER 94 FR | 2021 SKI TEST

Hi all! I'm 5'6 1/2  148 lbs intermediate to low advance skier on the west coast (ski mammoth, Jackson, park city etc) looking to purchase skis. Comfortable on any blue and easier blacks and getting better at edge to edge skiing. Looking for something that's stable at 30-40mph but will also give me the ability to work on carving. 

I tried the Nordica enforcer 94 at 172 cm which felt great but was worried they might be a tad long although loved the stability. Would 165 be too short? Want something I can get better on that's stable on groomers on piste.

Any other recs for skis or bindings would be appreciated!
