 Hi, this is Craig. I'm with Black Diamond Equipment, and I'm the business unit director for the ski line today I'm going to talk to you a little bit about the tecton binding Tecton binding is a binding that's produced by Fritje in Switzerland, and we are the North American distributor for this binding We've been having a long partnership with Fritje over the years, and they've really increased their their Their focus on that tech customer in the last couple of years the thing that makes the Fritje tecton binding different than any other Binding on the market is it is a tech toe But it has a releasable tech toe and no other tech binding on the market provides that so even if you're in hike mode the carriage of this binding opens up and You can release out of the carriage of this toe as well as the heel This binding is really targeted towards that maybe 70-30 in-area backcountry customer it performs Just as well in area as it does in the backcountry some of the features for this particular binding as you can tell It's got a tech toe But it's got an alpine heel The difference between some other bindings on the market and the Fritje tecton is you'll notice that the cup of the heel is much Shorter much smaller than the other binding on the market like it the reason for that is this little piece right here And these wings when the binding is engaged into the boot Those wings indexed into the tech insert in the back of the boot and what that does is creates in Really good torsional stability in the binding and because of that we don't need a really big cup The other unique feature about this binding as you can see it's all plastic So it's really lightweight, but really high performance, and it has great torsional stability The binding works like this if you're in in in touring mode you lift up the back of this binding till it's vertical And then you have your heel elevators when you step on to the binding when it's in tour mode And you step onto the brake rather it locks that brake into place And then you know you're in tour mode to get into ski mode You don't have to get out of this out of the binding to get into the ski mode you simply use your pole or go like that Put the binding back into ski mode Cock the binding and you're ready to step into it, so it's a really simple easy to use binding. It's high performance It's got tour ability. It's got capability in area if there's one binding in your quiver to do anything And you have a texel boot this is the binding you want go out and have fun with it

 A major differentiator. The heel piece is a good heel piece as well. It locks you in very strongly but gives you nine millimeters of uphill elasticity. So again the combination I think it offers very good safety and performance in uphill and downhill mode

 The overall binding weight, Frici claims to be around 550 grams. It's maybe a little bit optimistic. I think we were able to, in our own weighing of the binding, we were able to come close to that weight when we were weighing the binding without the actual brake. I assume that most people will use the brake with this binding and so probably closer to 650 grams, which makes it a little bit lighter than the Kingpin and maybe marginally heavier than a Dynafit Radical ST2

 The verdict of the binding I have to say I think Fritsche might have a hit on their hands here because the combination of a heel piece that does not rotate with very strong lockdown mechanism and a toe lateral release in the toe a binding that that locks out in walk mode obviously but that still lets you out in uphill mode. I think it's overall I think it's a pretty strong you know a pretty strong performance for their first effort at a at a tech hybrid binding. All right thanks for watching you guys.  So you have less power you have less lateral power loss there altogether and then on top of that they came with this in came out with this ingenious little lego-like feature that they called a power rail. So this protruding piece of plastic out of the heel piece actually fits beautifully into the cutout of this boot of any any boot that has like the tech fittings and it safely locks the binding in there. So lateral power is probably stronger than any other tech or hybrid tech binding that I have seen. In uphill mode conversely you can you I think the uphill performance of the binding just purely on performance we're not talking safety

 Finally, we have it in our hands today so we can do this video for you. So there's two main differences with the Tecton. We have a new upgraded Vipec toe piece but the secret really lies in the newly developed Alpine heel unit but firstly, we'll look at the toe. So the new and improved toe is a lot easier to step into

 Now this Power Rail system is designed to sit directly into the recess of the heel of the touring boot. What this gives us is maximum torsional strength which increases edge hold and downhill Alpine performance. To use the Fritschi Tecton 12 for going uphill, we have to lift the heel lever up and forward. This brings the heel cup diagonally back and out of the way

 We have to depress the toe. Step in. Now we have to push down hard on the heel. This will lift the brake up and out of the way ready to go uphill

The New Fritschi Tecton 12 Ski Touring Binding - Anything Technical Ltd

 Like many of you, we've been wading into the backcountry over the last few days, we've been at both ends of the spectrum. We've started with the frame bindings, which were fine. They were a little heavy, but they got us out there, and they went all the way to something super light and specific like the G3s, which are also awesome. But this year, we wanted something that was kind of a do-all without sacrificing the performance on mountain and downhill, but also not sacrificing the lightweight easy use

I really love how this binding skis, tours and transitions. The lateral movement in the toe piece makes the ride noticeably smoother on chattery snow. The power transfer is amazing, and it’s rad to have a din certified tech binding. It skis like an alpine binding but it’s weight is well below competitors like the duke and shift

Best of all it transitions like a tech binding, I can rip skins while standing without removing my skis, and switch to ski mode with my pole. Only complaint is that the plastic looks kinda worn where I use my pole on the toe piece and heel piece to pop out and transition

 Also, it is possible to break the low riser if you carelessly step on it, rather than the heel piece to pop out when in ski mode (mine was easily warrantied). Great binding, some durability issues

I have two pairs of these, one on a DPS ski used for about 3 years. Like it so much I purchased the newer version for my new skis. They are tricky to get the toe in if unable to stomp a nice flat surface without snow, but otherwise they perform great. Need to have a bit of patience
