Relatively unimpressive

I use my iPhone 12 Pro for data and routes right now but am interested in a cycling computer. I'm taking longer rides now and getting more serious about monitoring my progress. iPhones are really comfortable for me and if I'm investing in a cycling computer, it would be great to find some familiarity both in usability and size.

It doesn't seem like something like the Bolt or 530 would get me what I want.

Kind of eying the Garmin 1030 but open to suggestions. Any ideas from this knowledgable group would be appreciated.

I will be using it alongside my Garmin Fenix 6 and chest strap for workouts. Anybody have any advice, tips or learnings on how best to utilise the two side by side?

Oura Gen 3 &amp; Garmin Fenix 6

Hey, just got a "new" road bike and I'm completely new to the sport. I'm looking to ride my bike to work and to some shops/convenience stores on the weekend.

I store my bike on my balcony when at home and luckily we have a bike cage at work so that is fairly high security too. But I would like to get something where I don't have to worry about my bike as soon as I go in a shop for 5 mins. I live in a large city, but would be biking to fairly safe areas

I'm looking at Folding style locks (like foldylocks) mid range Kryptonite heavy chain locks, and U locks. I know it comes down to weight-security-cost conundrum.

I love the folding style lock because of the ease of use and storage, but is there like an easy way to bust these that I'm not seeing? Or are they pretty secure? I know no lock is infallible, but it is the type I'd like to go with if possible.

Any input and suggestions welcomed. Thanks

I’m curious to see how many miles I go and what speed I’m at when I ride. I’m considering a bike computer, probably just one of the cheaper basic odometer ones like $25 on amazon. But does it do anything the app Strava does not do?

My first Smartwstch was a FitBit Ionic... I found their software frustrating if nothing else... when it died (pool swimming, and it was supposed to be waterproof), I got a Garmin Fenix 6X to replace it... now FitBits seem like kids toys to me... I am investing in more Garmin gear - would love a set of the new Rally pedals and a 1030+ computer too, but happy with the watch & sensors for now...

Similar here too. Went from an ionic last year that died on a run (50% battery in an hour and half) and it pissed me off enough to try a Garmin.

Got a 245 and mind was blown. Better battery, battery stats, better GPS and coach programmes. And no "premium" subscription!

I never had a FitBit but a few people I worked with said that they died. My first was a Forerunner 610 which was like wearing a brick on your wrist (weight was about 95 grams).  I have  Fenix 5+ and love it. I would like a 6 or 7 but it's hard to justify as this thing feels like it could last forever.

I've a Fitbit charge 4 solely because I have dinky wrists ( charge 4 face overhangs slightly) all the Garmin's I've found to try on are so big they overhang by cms, are there smaller faced Garmin's which do heartbeat, spo2 and sleep tracking?

I get a great watch with accurate heartbeat monitoring (confirmed by my own Pulse Ox And chest strap), Multiple free watch faces, a nice and responsive app, and a ton more exercise profiles.

My god am I impressed by Garmin compared to Fitbit

So I came from a cycling background and ran with a dedicated unit for my rides. When I switched to triathlon, I needed something that could hold up to all 3 sports and still connect to pwr, hr, etc. Because of my ocd in wanting all 3 sports in one tracking session, I switched to using just a watch (the Fenix 5) and it's served me well. In the TT position it gets annoying because I can't see the numbers as readily as I'd like, but I just flip the watch around onto my wrist and this helps. 

The other advantage is that I only have to sync and keep one device charged. Not going to lie though, for long rides, I do prefer the dedicated unit. The watch is just more practical for me.

I've seen people run both and there's nothing wrong with it. It's all personal preference and willingness to manage multiple devices.

I purchased a separate unit for training sessions due to safety reasons. Checking the watch mid-ride was just a lot more difficult than a dedicated unit. 

When training I record with the dedicated unit and during races I have it show the data that's being recorded by the watch in multisport mode. That works pretty well in Garmin's ecosystem.

If it’s useful: I got a fancy watch (Garmin 945 LTE) and a cheap small cycling computer (Garmin 130 Plus - I got it for ~$130), and I can use “extended display mode” so I have my metrics on the bike computer projected from the watch. Has been nice and flexible.

Hey'all - I'm thinking about getting a power meter for my bike (looking at the Stages 105 cause I'm a beginner), and that's making me realize I should be thinking about a bike computer/head unit. I currently just bike wearing my Garmin 935. I've seen mounts to use your watch as a cycling computer (given it has GPS, etc.), and figure then I'd want to get a chest HRM for HR data (which might not be terrible anyways to have for swimming too), or otherwise I'd need to buy a cycling computer, which would have the advantages of screen size and maybe some other things. Preferably one that connects to the power meter and watch (for HR) with ease!

Would appreciate thoughts and recommendations from the community!
