 And for the last one there's a free position switch for passive mode, active mode which will give you more output and active mode with a treble boost which works nicely if you're using the pickups in series mode as it will give you some of that extra brightness you will lose by connecting the pickup in series. So this last switch is actually the only active component in electronics which if you think about is quite clever so you can get all of these different sounds and most of them are in passive mode.  Now, be warned because I wish I'd done a little bit more research before getting this bass. You might be thinking dual humbucker, active electronics. This is going to have a fast neck and something that, you know, is synonymous and not synonymous with that kind of faster playing style. Not the case with these

 I think the shining star of this bass is the electronics and the way that G&L have approached it with the L2000. A lot of people are put off by it because they go oh my god too many knobs and switches but actually it's not that bad. This bass is active which means it's got a preamp on board. So we have got a master volume, a treble, a bass and then our three switches here

 Now these knobs are actually bass and treble cut so having that extra treble boost it's quite a cool feature if you want just like a little bit more zing. It's the zing switch. G&L you can have that one for free. The G&L zing switch

 On the back we have a 6 bolt bolt-on construction. That neck is not going anywhere. Big neck, big body. I would describe this bass as a proper chonker, so much so that it weighs about 10 pounds

For (almost all of) is who can’t afford a Wal bass, a G&L L-2000/2500  can cop that tone pretty closely. (Series mode, both pickups, preamp engaged with treble boost on)

What playing style is Tool ?

Hey guys, I'm an intermediate player looking to upgrade from my Squier bullet telecaster.

I'm choosing between a Fender MIM stratocaster and a Squier J Mascis jazzmaster. I found a used strat on Reverb for about the same price as a brand new JMJM so the cost doesn't really matter here. Any thoughts on this?

I'm into indie rock, bedroom pop, post-rock, shoegaze, and such if that's helpful. I think wanting to move out of the same brand (Squier) into a more respected one (Fender) kind of plays a role too even though it probably shouldn't lol

 I'm going to put the preamp on its first setting which is just active mode. Just the rear pickup in parallel mode. Now a little finger style. Now let's try series mode, balance the volume a little bit

If you could only use ONE bass for the rest of your life what would you pick and why?

 In our middle position is active flat and then closest to the bridge is basically passive. So let's do some playing. So let's start with passive and we're going to have our bass almost all the way up, maybe 80% and our treble at about maybe 80% also. That's basically where I'm going to kind of live with those knobs

 So we're going to go to both pickups and now I'm going to activate the preamp. Again, my bass knob is at about 80% and my treble knob is at about 80% also. I'm leaving them there and I am in parallel mode. So let's hear what that sounds like

 I really like that. Again, we were in series and that was our bridge pickup. So let's do the same thing. Now let's activate our preamp with that treble boost
