 Now we are in preamp position three, back on the neck pickup. Both pickups together and finally the bridge pickup. So there we are we have reached the end of my GNL L2500 tribute demo. My thoughts, I think this bass looks really nice, I think it was built really well in Indonesia, I think it plays really well, I think it sounds wicked and with that outrageous amount of tones you can get from it I think you get a lot of bass for your money

 It's equipped with GNL's Tritone system which consists of volume, treble and bass, a three way pickup selector, a series and parallel switch and a three way preamp mode selection switch. So with all those things in mind, all of the possible combinations of pop positions and switch positions, there's quite frankly a staggering number of potential tones to get from this bass and now I'm going to attempt to show you at least a fair chunk of them so I hope you enjoy it. Ok so first of all we are in series mode in preamp position one and this is the neck pickup. This is both pickups together and this is the bridge pickup

 The GNL tribute basses are made at a lower cost than the American made GNLs. They're essentially what Squier is to Fender and you shouldn't let that put you off because this is a very well made, very powerful passive bass and it's got a swampash body, a 21 fret rosewood fingerboard, a bolt on maple neck and these two stonking great humbuckers. As well the bridge is really nice because you have the option of putting the strings through the body and this helps a great deal with things like tone and sustain and it also makes up for the fact that this bass only has a 34 inch scale length because I think without this bridge, or a different kind of bridge, the low B string would have been flapping about a bit but it feels and sounds great on this bass. The pickups and the electronics on this bass have a massive selection of settings to choose from

 So there we are we have reached the end of my GNL L2500 tribute demo. My thoughts, I think this bass looks really nice, I think it was built really well in Indonesia, I think it plays really well, I think it sounds wicked and with that outrageous amount of tones you can get from it I think you get a lot of bass for your money. However, I would like to try it before buying it, and it after visiting multiple guitar shops in different dutch cities, all of them have told me that they don&#39;t carry squiers and fenders, particularly not within that budget. The bigger ones carry vintage, very expensive fenders. I&#39;m starting to think that my only option will be to go to the UK.</p>

<p>If anyone knows of any shop here in NL, or even in the Köln-Bonn area in Germany, that might carry soem squiers, I&#39;d be very thankful.</p>

[Question] Dutch Guitar stores that deal Fender/Squier?

 You have it in series humbucking mode for a very deep robust sound, or switch it over to parallel humbucking mode, gives it some brightness. You have a preamp selector switch here, you've got passive, preamp is bypassed, preamp activated, or third position is the preamp activated with a little bit of treble boost on it. A couple of all this with a nice solid fixed bridge here that's got the saddle lock and six bolts holding that neck together, and boom you got yourself one magical bass. It's a pretty solid five string right there

Hey guys, another question about which bass to choose. I posted here last week about looking for a bass for (my poor excuse for) lo-fi hip-hop. This time, I am looking for a bass to play hip-hop lines, something for rock and post-hardcore (Coheed and Cambria, Thrice) and indie / brit-pop (The Vaccines, early Arctic Monkeys).

I think I know the answer, but I would like your opinion as well. I currently play an Ibanez SR505. I am a guitarist trying to learn the world of bass, and there is a lot to learn.

I am at a bit of an impasse. I have a few different options to choose from, around the same price point, and in no order of preference:

1.) Fender (MiJ, ~2008) Geddy Lee Jazz: It's Geddy Lee's favorite version of a ~1972 J bass. I was able to spend about 10 minutes playing it, and it felt pretty good in my hands. The sound is a bit in your face, but the fit and finish were great. May be able to get a bit more of a subtle sound later on. - $750CAD

I can trade my SR505 against it, and pay the difference.

2.) Fender (MiM, ~2015) Standard Precison: Haven't played this one yet, but it's a P-bass. I played a 2001 P-bass for a couple weeks (gave to my brother) but I can't say if I like the neck or not. The P-bass sound seems to be what I hear in my head. Dead simple design, and they just work. - $850 CAD

I can trade my SR505 against it, and pay the difference.

3.) G&amp;L Tribute JB-2: Looks great (sonic blue finish), I am unable to play this one before hand, 1.5 hours away. No idea how it plays, but it doesn't seem to stray far specs-wise from a Fender J bass. G&amp;L seem to have a good reputation, and a good Fender alternative. For sale by a reputable pawn shop. - $600 CAD cash

4.) Sterling by MusicMan Ray34: Looks super nice, I like the recognizable style, and its simplicity. However, I am not able to play it first, and I understand that these are slightly heavy in the mids. Good for slap playing, but I don't play that way. Unable to try it put first as it is 1.5 hours away, private sale. - $650CAD cash

My hesitation comes from almost every sound that I am familiar with and enjoy, uses a P bass. Bands like Radiohead, Silverstein, Coheed and Cambria, Death Cab for Cutie, Foo Fighters, etc., etc. Everybody uses a P-bass. It's just THE bass sound to my ears.

Help me choose a bass [Fender, Sterling, G&amp;L] (long post)

For (almost all of) is who can’t afford a Wal bass, a G&L L-2000/2500  can cop that tone pretty closely. (Series mode, both pickups, preamp engaged with treble boost on)

I've recently started playing some Tool songs on bass but I wanted to know if it's mostly played with a pick or with fingers ? On The Pot a lot of it sounds like slap. Just wanted to know how everyone plays it.

Hey guys, I'm an intermediate player looking to upgrade from my Squier bullet telecaster.

I'm choosing between a Fender MIM stratocaster and a Squier J Mascis jazzmaster. I found a used strat on Reverb for about the same price as a brand new JMJM so the cost doesn't really matter here. Any thoughts on this?

I'm into indie rock, bedroom pop, post-rock, shoegaze, and such if that's helpful. I think wanting to move out of the same brand (Squier) into a more respected one (Fender) kind of plays a role too even though it probably shouldn't lol
