Google Nest Audio

So how is the Nest Audio speaker? Well, it's pretty good, I have to say. but should you buy one?

I got an email offering a Nest Mini for upgrading to the 2TB plan on Google One. Minis are at $19US now...so basically 2 months value. If it was a Nest Audio, we'd be talking business. 🙄

5 stars on the device. It sounds awesome; as good as a hi-fi system from the 80s (not quite as loud, obvi). It looks great, it was easy to set up. Honestly, this thing is pretty great...BUT - the software is pay-to-play. There are parts of this thing that are intentionally throttled and only open up...

Last time it happened, I was in the front listening to music and my daughter was in the basement and asked google a question on another device and it stopped playing again. I think there is a link to the two instances, but I know for a fact the Nest Audio couldn't have picked up her voice.

Looks like the folks at Google aren't listening to its customers yet again. The sound from Nest Audio is exceptional and is a great addition to Nest Mini's...for music. Let me see, I bought Google Mini, Nest Mini, Max, Nest Audio, Pixel buds 2, Nexus, Pixel, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, Pixel 4a, Pixel 5, Nest Cams, Nest Protect, Nest Hello, Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max and never ever had any problem. Besides that I had to buy all that stuff in Germany or via eBay because Google still can't deliver to the Benelux.

Overall an okay speaker but google home has a LONG way to go. Run into issues trying to switch spotify from my phone to the Nest, unable to hook up google assist features to play from speaker for waking up.I think, currently it's very overpriced and wouldn't be ready for a few years.

The weird thing is, not that I have it I kinda prefer the sound of the Nest Audio to the Maxes, which makes me feel bad because the Max retailed at $400 before it was withdrawn and the Nest Audio is only $150 (Australian dollars). It's because of the bass mainly. I don't know if it's the AI EQ Google applies or the hardware, but the bass on the Max even though very powerful when emphasized, is otherwise kinda thin and subtle, focussed very much on the low end of the spectrum. While the bass on the Nest is much more rounded and present overall, at least to my ears, although the mids and highs aren't nearly as rich on the Nest.

The sound quality isn't as good as the old one. It looks nice and more sleek but I feel the effort they put into that made the sound quality lack. It's not as loud as the older model.

My phone does a better job at invoking Google Assistant than my Nest Audio speaker despite being much farther away. The Google Home ecosystem has so much potential, but their execution has been total shit.
