I Think the nest protect is an excellent option as always.

Let me see, I bought Google Mini, Nest Mini, Max, Nest Audio, Pixel buds 2, Nexus, Pixel, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, Pixel 4a, Pixel 5, Nest Cams, Nest Protect, Nest Hello, Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max and never ever had any problem. Besides that I had to buy all that stuff in Germany or via eBay because Google still can't deliver to the Benelux.

2016 Nest Protect operated without any problems and last status on battery this week was OK but just now it suddenly started chirping without any prior notifications battery was low. Removed batteries and one of the 6 factory supplied energizer lithium AAs was warm.

In december I bought a new 2nd gen wired Nest protect from the Google Store (online) to replace an older 1st gen wired Nest protect that was about to expire. When I received it in the mail, it turned out the "new" device had been sitting on a shelf somewhere in the warehouse for about 5 years, because the expiration date on the back of the device and in the app was for September 2027. While it should be about 10 years after purchase.
