It can comfortably carry 50-pound loads and only weighs 3 pounds, which is much lighter than most backpacking packs. This pack is full of useable features that make it an excellent choice for backpacking. The hip belt width is adjustable, as is the torso length. We were able to make this pack fit a wide variety of body shapes when testing. This pack is somehow able to comfortably support up to 50 pounds while only weighing 3.0 pounds itself. We enjoyed this pack's great set of features for their practicality and usability. There is a stretchy mesh front pocket, roomy hip belt pockets, a removable top lid, a breathable back panel, a long front access zipper, and nine compression straps to handle variable loads. This has just about every feature you could ask for and nothing you don't need. It's an impressive pack in both weight and weight capacity. A light pack allows you to keep your base weight low, but since the Blaze has such a robust suspension, you can comfortably carry a few luxury items, winter/climbing gear, or extra food for a more extended trail section.
While this pack does many things right, there is no perfect pack for everyone. Some buckles on this pack are small and hard to operate with gloves. Though this isn't a high-tech, revolutionary pack, part of its appeal is its simplistic yet functional design.  This is Montecristo. It used to be a mining town for silver and gold ore and there's a preservation society that maintains it as a visitor area basically. We got a couple of picnic tables out and they put up some sign posts and it's relatively easy to get to. From here I'm going to be climbing up into the mountains to Silver Lake so the easy part is over

 I got this in the Coyote Brown and I am really enjoying it. This is only the second backpacking trip although I did take this out loaded on a hiking. Some features of this pack that you can see is a front stretch mesh pocket which is supplemented by these relatively small but it does keep your gear a lot more secure I think and it also adds compression should you need it. There are compression straps on the side, there is one through here also

 You can kind of detach it and keep it floating. In addition to secure your connection to the backpack and to draw the bottom in, there are straps here and this strap is actually really useful as you'll see on the other side. The shoulder pads are well padded but they're also not that heavy and there are portions, you can kind of see that there's holes there for better ventilation and weight savings. There's not a full daisy chain but I really like this feature and I have a little pouch attached to the strap there that you can see

Granite Gear Blaze 60 Quick Review

I come from a Scouting backpacking background where as an adult I have to carry way too much gear. I’m doing way more backpacking with my friends and really enjoying cutting weight. I’m at the point where my backpack is the next most logical place to drop significant lbs as it currently makes up about 25% of my base weight.  I’m looking for a pack in the 55 liter (+/-) range and around 2lbs (+/-). Most of my trips are long weekends. I love my Mystery Ranch Glacier but it is way too big and heavy for short trips where I’m not loaded down with backup gear for the kids. Thanks for any recommendations.

BLUF: this bag is a roll-top, cinch-enclosure lightweight bag that largely keeps things simple. In the few spaces where it tries to be fancy, it's clunky.  The belt works well and is easily adjustable, with a wide range of sizes it will fit.  The hip pockets are generous but not overly large

 Slide the toggles on the shoulder straps through the slots in the plastic frame that corresponds to your measurement. A molded foam back panel and dual density shoulder straps provide comfort while you're hauling a load. The dual density refit hip belt features hip stabilizer straps that can be adjusted. To adjust the refit hip belt, first thread the hip stabilizer straps out of the buckles, then reach behind the lumbar pad from the right side and break the Velcro seal

Granite Gear Blaze 60 Internal Frame Backpack

I'm still nowhere near as light as most people here, but I've probably cut out &gt;10lb in the past couple years. I think it's time to replace my big pack from the early 00s with something smaller and lighter while I continue to refine my kit. 

My typical use case would be a 3-4 day trip in the East coast mountains (Smokies, Whites, Adirondacks). I'd also want to use it on Colorado trips to hike in to a base camp for a couple days, stow overnight gear, and hike nearby 14ers. I plan to thru-hike the Northville-Placid trail soon and the JMT in the coming years.

* Can carry a bear can comfortably and securely. Inside preferable, but open to using a y-strap or similar on top. 

* Is in the $200-$300 range. $400 is a hard limit. 

* Has some way to attach a helmet. 

* Can stow collapsed trekking poles. Doesn't need to be as convenient as Osprey's system, just something to get the job done. 

* Available to purchase this season. 

* Rugged within reason. A lot of my trips feature stretches of narrow trails with pine branches. 

* Able to pull out a water bottle from the side pocket without taking the pack off would be really nice.

* Not required, but if it could be used for a winter day pack too, that would be icing on the cake. Probably same volume of stuff after shelter+kitchen gets replaced with a lot more clothes. Ideally, some way to attach snowshoes using extra straps. 

I'm looking at:

* GG Mariposa - Mentioned very frequently, top rated on OutdoorGearLab. Removable frame is a plus. 

* HMG 3400 (probably Southwest) -  looks to be extra durable and has 40lb carrying capacity. Lack of load lifters might be a concern. 

* Osprey Exos 58 - apparently will fit bear can horizontally. Also have had really great experience with their day packs. 

* ULA Circuit 

* Granite Gear Crown2


but I'm sure I'm still missing a few options.

Exploring options for a bear can compatible ~60L pack

 This helps offset the load in back by a few pounds. The two pouches on either side are hard to access and I had to ask other hikers to get my water out. The belt pouches work well and hold my LG cell phone, keys, wallet, etc. Space is a lot less than in my old Dana (100 liter) but the Granite Gear holds everything I need for a multi-day hike with ease

 We tend to hike in cooler weather so we tend to carry more clothes but in warmer weather with few clothes, you could go many days out with this pack. Plus, the side pockets are so big, you could carry the tent and sleeping bag/mattress on the outside freeing up a lot of space inside. It's very versatile. There are lighter packs but this one fits me well

After wearing an old 7lb Dana pack on my last hike I decided to go much lighter. A main consideration is that the pack be comfortable even with a heavy load. Most 'ultra' light packs are going to be uncomfortable at their max weight but even with 35lbs this pack carried comfortably, and I had few issues with it. I'm still playing with the idea of putting the lid on the front of the pack and carrying my water and snacks on the front

Good light weight backpack

 You'll find two water-resistant hip belt pockets, large enough to fit most current phones, and an enormous pocket on either side of the pack with cinch closures to make sure your bottles stay in place. A generous stretch center pocket in front of the pack can house cumbersome gear or quickly store a jacket in changing conditions. There's a large vertical main access zipper that allows you to get to hard-to-reach items in your pack without having to dump the whole bag. Compression straps all along the outside of the pack dial in the structure under changing loads

Great all around pack .

 Hey we're down in southern Utah my name is David with Granite Gear and we're gonna go over the new Blaze 60 design. Alright so our new Blaze is three pounds and it's ultra light yet ultra durable. Breaking down the fabrics we're using a 100D aerobic nylon as the main body fabric and in the high impact and high abrasion areas and on the Granite Gear Arches we're using a triple weave UHM WPE fiber that's interwoven into 210D aerobic nylon. We have a large front stash pocket made of stretch woven materials and a key new feature is this side access zipper that runs the entire length of the front panel
