 For about 53 US dollars, you're getting what you pay for here. A basic functional mechanical keyboard. The one thing that sets this keyboard apart from all of the rest is its layout. It's got a miniature number pad where the media keys normally are

 Everything else about this board is pretty average. It features an off-brand of red linear switches by a company called Gixian and it's got a pretty standard plastic case. It comes with PBT keycaps in two different color schemes. One like I have here with the white base and the kind of confetti color accents

 It's such a useful option that I think a lot of people would be interested in. If someone built a board like this with hot swappable switches, more premium feel, and a better case, I would buy it instantly. Of course, those features would cause the price to go up, but that's a trade-off I'd be willing to make for the functionality it would add. So here's an example of what this keyboard sounds like out of the box

 This is one of the more unique keyboard layers. I think a lot of people would be interested in it.

 If you're going to buy this keyboard and use it with editors as well, you're going to spend a massive amount of time remapping hotkeys in programs, if able to do so. Good keyboard if you ONLY intend to use it for gaming and light browsing. Pretty terrible if you plan on using most editing software. Lesson learned on my part

It just strikes me as bad design that if you're going to save just enough space to still include the numpad (A keyboard feature that isn't even commonly used in gaming, so it's not like it even appeals to the gaming aspect of the keyboard) and you save that space by removing keys that are used just as often as, if not more often, than the numpad itself.

 If you've already taken this into account, skip over this review and count it as a positive review, because the keyboard itself is of good quality. My complaints about this keyboard are that the keys they chose to remove to make the design more compact are a problem. They added a numpad but didn't add the operator keys. This is a huge problem as a lot of programs use numpad operators as a separate keybind that does not trigger for using the num row version, resulting in a massive slowdown when working with editors or when using the numpad for calculator input

Good keyboard, Bad Compact Design.

 It is nice and compact and convenient and you do not need too many more things. This is definitely a pretty unique layout as it is not seen too much. But honestly, I can definitely get used to it. It is really nice

 I really like the layout that these guys had gone for. And honestly, I think that it will work pretty well for most people. In the back, we get the manual in another language. So here are the things that you could do if you like the keyboard or if you dislike it, you could always contact them in case you need help and you have an 18 month warranty

 There was nothing out of the usual. It is a pretty nice sounding keyboard to be stock. We have our red switches inside and overall it looks pretty good. But now we will be taking it apart and taking a deeper look on the inside

 When you end up using the keyboard, ours is in red switches and we have our multicolored key caps. The key caps are pretty thick and nice. It is nice to see that they are PBT. Again, the only concern that I have is that these are not double shot injection

Update: after using for a while, I found I occasionally missed key actuation too much do the switch operation or type. I also realized the numpad was pretty much useless for 95% of the things you'd want it for because it doesn't have the +,-, and enter keys.  I will re-state that the color combination is great, price was good, and it looks neat if you're a keyboard collector who will put it on display etc. -- Original Review: A keyboard that replaces the rarely used 9 keys of insert, delete, page up, etc

 The feel is fine, but longevity could be an issue due to this.  Lighting: The only lighting on the keyboard is under the numpad, when numlock is on, and that lighting does not look good (see photo). However it will usually be off for my use.  Numpad operation: Numpad numbers are activated with Fn+Backspace (numlock), which then lights up the numpad

 No under key lighting (except a poorly lit numpad.)  Keys: quality feel: heavy plastic and slightly tacky, solid thump, no click that feels good. Color is good, photos are accurate. The keyboard uses an offbrand type of switch and is not hot-swappable

 The included wired keycap puller is definitely a welcome feature. Wired keycap pullers are so much better than those small plastic ones, and once again, for the price point of this keyboard, it just adds in even more value. Not even big companies like Corsair include one, so it's great to see smaller ones doing this. Lastly, the braided cable is a nice touch as they are much more durable than rubber ones

 Not only does it have the same size as a TKL board, which means more mouse space, but it also features a numpad. Now, I do realize that most gamers out there don't use a numpad, but for a student like me that does online school every single day while still in quarantine, it's proven to be quite useful when I have to do math calculations. The included wired keycap puller is definitely a welcome feature. Wired keycap pullers are so much better than those small plastic ones, and once again, for the price point of this keyboard, it just adds in even more value

 Next up are the switches, they're just really scratchy. Again, this may not be a problem for the average user, but it does bother me a little bit as an enthusiast. Not to mention, there's only one switch option, which are reds. There are those out there that do like blue or brown switches, so it would be nice to see those included too

 The second is to use the FN key instead, so you still get backlighting, unlike the first way. And the third and final method is the same as the second, except using the L or R shift keys instead of FN. For media control, FN plus F1 opens Windows Media Player, F2 and F3 decrease and increase volume respectively, F4 is mute, F5 is stop, F6 is backtrack, F7 is pause play, and F8 is skip track. FN plus F12 is print screen, and FN plus Windows is Windows lock

 The number pad is very high set. I'd never use this for gaming as a lefty since my hand rests on the numberpad and and most commands are mapped there. If you're a righty or don't use the numberpad, you probably won't care, but then you probably got a keyboard without a ten key. 4

 It's a linear keyboard, not a lot of report with the press. I don't mind that since I'm on calls at work and typing so it's al ittle quieter. But the combination of no report and deep presses on the keys feels awkward to me. 3

There's nothing I've found "wrong" with this. A lot of my review has to do with the nature of what the keyboard is like.  1. The keys are very much like the old keyboards from the 80s

Make sure it's the right one for you

 You get a black box that says, hello, thank you for choosing Avid. When you open up the box, you're basically going to get some sort of user manual and the manual is not really large because there isn't really much to tell you about this board. Asides that, you get the keyboard itself in some nylon material just wrapped up and the braided USB cable is pretty much permanently attached to the board. Asides that, you get a keycap puller and you also get a customer satisfaction card

 I'm not sure if this is a consequence of the actual keycaps or the switches themselves but they sounded like reds and they felt like browns. Now, of course, maybe over time actually using this keyboard, you could break in the switches and then they might start to feel like they're supposed to but that was my first time user experience. Also, you should note that the stabilizers on this are actually pretty decent. They came pre-clipped so that's great and moving away from that, let's actually talk about the physical bits of the board

 Now, on the back of the keyboard, one thing that I thought was really weird was that this keyboard actually had two rubber feet at the bottom but there were no rubber feet at the top except you actually extend the height of the keyboard with the extendable rubber feet that were included. I thought this was weird because there are going to be some people that do not want to use the keyboard with the adjustable rubber feet hence they are going to have the keyboard sliding around on their desk a little bit but if you do use the adjustable rubber feet, your keyboard will stay put and pretty much have very minimal movement on your desk. Now, moving away from all of that, let's actually give you an example typing test so that you can hear what these key switches actually sound like with these keycaps on this board when you actually type with them. Let's see how this looks

Havit KB487L Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review - $39 Budget Keyboard

If you want an affordable keyboard without any bells and whistles, then this one works out great. But for keyboard enthusiasts, gamers, or even office workers, this keyboard is a bit below status quo.  The switches are very loud and feel clunky compared to Cherry switches or even more tactile mechanical keyboards. Not to mention that the backlit keys are only on the number pad, NOT the whole keyboard

Overall form factor is compact, but the layout does take some time getting used to if you are using it for typing.  I use this as my backup keyboard, or if I am traveling and want something more robust than my laptop

Affordable, reliable, but not high quality

5mm, very good quality. The legends are fairly small with a bold font, and the grey is a little hard to discern on the orange keycaps, but just a nitpick. The case has a two piece design with a top cover, giving the keyboard a sunken key profile as opposed to the raised profile. There is a little plaque on the front right, featuring some Havok branding

 The KB487L comes with budget ejection switches, and I have used their clicky blues before on another Havit and Pigtake board. Quite similar to Timmy Reds, probably a bit more scratchy and there was some metal ping on the upstroke. These linears are rated for 50 million key presses with an actuation force of 50 grams. Not the greatest switches ever, but more than adequate for an entry level budget board

 There are a few downsides, such as the budget switches and lack of RGB, but the KB487L offers appreciable aesthetics, excellent stabilizers and PBT keycaps. At $50 I definitely think this is good value.

 You can always just use auto hotkey for remapping or creating key combinations. So I think this is a very impressive little budget board, especially if you can make use of its unique layout. There are a few downsides, such as the budget switches and lack of RGB, but the KB487L offers appreciable aesthetics, excellent stabilizers and PBT keycaps. At $50 I definitely think this is good value
