 These skis are some of the most smooth and most powerful and most damp of these frontside slash all-mountain skis. It's really got that carving power to it, just a little bit of that extra width. So this one is 78 millimeters underfoot, so creeping onto that 80 millimeter threshold, there is just a little bit of extra width underfoot to get you a little bit more versatility, good balance point to stand on, really just a great overall shape and construction for this ski. This is the 170, generates a 14 meter turn radius, so getting pretty short in the arc, a lot of that has to do with the lack of taper and rocker to this ski, pretty traditional in terms of the shaping and profiling

 You get some good camber underfoot and then very minimal rocker in the tip, just down to below the widest point. So lack of taper in the shovel means that your edge is going to hook up real quick to the snow, hold you through the underfoot area and into this extremely flat tail. Very minimal taper and rocker here, that edge goes right to the end and that's going to hold you into the turn for as long as possible. The longer the edge is in contact with the snow, the smoother the ride and overall the grippier the ski is going to be without a whole lot of rocker in there

So just a tiny bit of splay in the tail here, that really keeps it from being too brutal at the exit of the turn, you'd see that more on a race ski or something like that, but just this little bit of splay helps you release from the turn, doesn't totally lock you in, which would be pretty unwanted with a ski of this construction and weight. It has a good weight to it, but it's not heavy

Not a dedicated women ski but i was very pleasantly surprised by Head Supershape's when i rented them for a week.

They basically drove themselves when being carved with proper technique. Even on steep icy groomers.

Sadly I felt a little underwhelmed by the replacements I ordered, which were a bit longer (150 vs 143) since I thought I might need a more stable ski as I progressed. The new skis don’t have the same lively feel/feedback even if they are more stable and don’t feel as fun. I am getting a little depressed as I miss my old skis. 

I am a short light skier (5’2, 105) who needs skis that are good for your knees (had a long ago knee injury) so narrower/shorter skis are preferred. I tend to prefer blue groomers and leisurely skiing and run into a bit of crud in the afternoons. Thanks and any help would be appreciated.

Need help on lively on-piste intermediate ski for women

 You know, make no mistake, this thing is really built for groomed and manicured surfaces. Real smooth turner, this is a 170 here and we've got a 14 meter turn radius, so turning on a dime on this one, really dramatic side cut and very much show a tip to tail taper shape. So, widest part of the tip is right at the front and widest part of the tail, you know, very dramatic to the flare to the back. It's going to hook up instantaneously and it's going to hold you into the turn until the end

 So that's what they're going for there. This thing is 76, 78 millimeters underfoot, I'm sorry, and so it's kind of getting closer to that 80 millimeter threshold where you might see some all mountain versatility built in. You know, make no mistake, this thing is really built for groomed and manicured surfaces.  Very precise as well. So that high end carving enthusiast looking for this ski, we see a lot of instructors on this, just a lot of high end carvers ripping around on this thing. Just an excellent tip to tail, very smooth ski. So one of the changes here is they've changed the curves, the kinetic energy response system into the energy management circuit

 Very long effective edge for the length of the ski, that gives you just a smooth and stable ride. So all of those, you know, design factors and build qualities go into making this, you know, that real consistent tip to tail carver. You know, not so good on the flats and straights, you know, really prefers to be on edge with the, you know, that wider tip and, you know, the just very positively cambered profile. You know, it wants the tips to be pushed down on the snow, so, you know, certainly prefers to be in a carved turn

1. Head Supershape E-rally (177cm) - These seem most like what I'm used to and might be exactly what I'm looking for, my only current doubt is whether I shouldn't go for something a bit more all-mountain (e.g., will they suck on powder?)

 This thing is going tip-to-tail edge hold, and that longer effective edge leads to a smoother overall feel. Just zero taper in this thing, squared off shovel, squared off tail. Really great option for firm snow, hard snow, but we definitely see that camber underfoot as being the most pronounced profile aspect of this ski. Great option for frontside skiing

Pretty surprising amount of off-trail capability. I wouldn't say this would be my first choice for bumps or trees, but if you want to go in there, go right ahead

 That graphene is super light and very strong, so it does add quite a bit of stiffness to the flex. There's not a whole lot of bend going on in this ski, so you really have to get it up on edge and push pretty hard to get it to turn. The radius though kind of takes care of a little bit of that. This one here is the 177 and we're looking at a 15

This one here is the 177 and we're looking at a 15.3 meter turn radius, so that strong build combined with that short radius do make this thing pretty accessible for, I would say starting at upper intermediate all the way through expert level skiers, but definitely if you're in that intermediate range, this is going to be pretty stiff and burly, but if you have that advanced expert skier background, former racer looking for an on-trail carver, I think this ski fits right in that realm for sure. We also get their energy management circuit on this ski, so this circuit here harnesses any of the bad vibrations, unwanted chatter, and just filters them right out, so it's an incredibly smooth and stable ski

Do GS and/or SL skis have any fun use in non-racing context?

 It can do short turns as well. It's 78 millimeters underfoot, which is a little bit wider, two millimeters wider than the old iRally. It's 670 pounds, including bindings. And I think if you're, it would make a great ski instructor ski, or someone that's going through a ski instructor system, or someone that wants to improve their carving turns, prefers long turns on the piste

 But with the EMC system, it means that it really stabilizes the ski, dampens it so you don't get that vibration. But the softer core makes it easier to turn. It's aimed at an advanced to expert skier. I'd say for long turns, it's absolutely perfect, sort of long carving GS style turns

 The E, it replaces the iRally, but the E stands for the EMC, which is basically like an electronic dampening system that runs through the skis. And what I had to have done for this year, for this ski, is they've actually softened the core. But with the EMC system, it means that it really stabilizes the ski, dampens it so you don't get that vibration. But the softer core makes it easier to turn
