Galaxy Tab A7 and Lenovo P11 are the options, but they somehow disappoint, when using not so largely popular video apps. Netflix, youtube runs just fine, but local TV apps suffer from lag. Google galaxy tab a7 stutter, you will find some information on that.

Tab s6 is more expensive, it is a nice choise, will be updated up until Android 13. Lenovo p11 costs less, has bigger screen, 4 speakers (nice sound), a bit faster charging, near stock android experience.

For $230, this tablet has amazing value, stylus support, microSD, LTE, quad speaker

The galaxy a7 tab is good, I have one. It's good for web browsing/reddit/media consumption. 
I am however going to be returning it in exchange for a s6 lite. Budget tablets are a little sluggish moving around the OS so I'm hoping this works out better.

Okay so currently i am a LightPhone2 User and i love it. Sadly i am reaching a point where I'm going to be transitioning to a new job which will require me to provide my own smart device that i will need to have on me at all times for 2FA and Email access as well as calls and texts. I would really prefer to stay in the E-Ink world but from what I'm reading it seems like that might not be possible. 

Are there devices that work in the united states as of right now on any carrier and will remain functioning for at least a year.   


It looks like Hisense is a real crapshoot which sucks.

Help Finding Phone

I have considered it just for not carrying around another reader specific device. In the end I use too much my phone to have a e-ink technology on it so I discarded the idea. Still interested in the Xiaomi Inkpad 5 for a complementary easily carried device.

E-ink side 

- uses less power (lots of screen refresh reduces this)
- is easily used in bright sunlight (made for it really)
- preferred for reading (reflected light is easier on eyes)

So lightweight usage in bright locales is optimal. Newer phones do have built-in lighting, which is nice but reduces again any power savings.

Bought a Hisense A7 from China and I love it. I use it for reading and for audiobooks and for navigation. Fast, lots of storage, long battery life. I usually carry it in my backpack or in my jacket. For all the other stuff I use and old Iphone. Small, bad battery, but gets the job done through the day. I would not recommend an e-ink-phone for daily use, but the a7 has a speed mode that works quite well if you  use the internet. It‘s not for everyone, but you can to use an e-ink-phone for all purposes except videos.

Why E-ink Phones?

Most powerful is the hisense a7 with 6gb of ram. But it's phablet sized.

I don't think Kindles would handle anything more demanding. I have a Nova 2 from Onyx and I like it a lot. They don't have a waterproof device yet though and they don't have the buttons which is disappointing since I would love them too.

I have a Kindle Paperwhite that's nearly 4 years old, and I'm looking to upgrade. I read a lot of Asian translated novels, the kind that have over 2000-3000 chapters. So whenever I click on the go to, I have to wait a solid 5-10s before the list pops up. 

I'm looking for something that has a more powerful processor or whatever makes devices go faster, and something I can read in the sun(I love e-ink so much). 

As a former resident of Seattle, I would appreciate anything that helps with rain(physical buttons, waterproof device) but honestly this is just optional as a "If I ever go back"

Would an upgrade to oasis help(sweet sweet buttons), or any other device be better for this purpose?

I’ve been looking around at various tablets and phones. My main use cases are:

* Reading twitter
* Reading websites like reddit and Hacker News
* Reading email newsletters
* Reading long form articles

I have a Kobo, but I have found the pocket sync kind of clunky as pocket decides a lot of stuff is not an article and won’t sync to the kobo. 

I’m fairly indifferent between tablet and phone. I just want something that can do the above directly without needing to do a bunch of complicated syncing. 

I’m also a bit hesitant with security since I’ve heard all the Chinese devices phone home. I’ll prob make a separate ssid and also make a burner email for the newsletters. If anyone has any experience in this vein I’d be interested. I use an eero router. 

But yeah what phone or tablet would you recommend? I’ve seen a lot of talk of the Hisense a7, though some recommend the a5. Also heard about the Boox and the Remarkable. The latter *might* work with the github mods and seems secure, and the notetaking could be cool but it really really doesn’t seem made for reading.

Just got my Hisense A7 a couple weeks ago, and everything is working great in spite of the play store limitations. My biggest gripe is Spotify won't open unless I use 2Accounts. And when it does open it won't connect to cellular data...  
I remember someone mentioning it works fine from the Amazon App store but I have the same issue there. Both the phone and the the app are up to date so I'm thinking there might be some new google services going on in the backend before the app opens?

Anyone else have  similar issues? Any workarounds? I wish spotify had an open api that other apps could pull from.
