 Alright, so I've removed the back of the ATK bass here, and we've got our battery, our preamp, and I've also removed the pickup selector switch, which is attached to another little circuit board, and on the front of that board, there is a small cap and a resistor here, and I've done some probing around, and I've determined that that is in fact the filter for the traditional mode, so I've been trying to measure them in circuit, and it's not really working out too well for me. It looks to be, judging on the color code of the resistor, it's about a 9k resistor, but the cap, the markings are just not telling me what the value is, so I'll probably have to pull it off and measure it, and then we'll leave the resistor in place and try and select a new capacitor that will give us more of a roll off of the high end in the traditional mode. So I'll get that out of there, and I don't have my soldering iron in this room with me, so I'm going to actually not show the soldering part, but you want to come around to the back and find out where the cap comes through, and basically just heat up both terminals with your soldering iron, and you can just pull it right out. It should just come right out if you heat up both of those terminals at once

 So I'll do that, and we'll figure out what the new value is. Alright, I've got the new cap installed here, and I'll flip it over so we can take a look, and there's the new cap. It actually looks a little bit larger, but there's still enough room to cram it all in there, and I'll actually take the old cap and just tape it to the back of the cover plate in case I ever decide to put this thing back to its original state. So we'll get it all back together, and then we'll play a sound sample

 Alright, so we'll start off in the bright mode. We'll do a sample, and basically the way it was before, traditional and bright, there was very little difference. It was really hard to tell you even flick the switch around. So here's bright, and here's the new mode, the new traditional mode with more high-end rolled up

90's Ibanez ATK300 Bass - Traditional Mode Mod

They're solid in my opinion(and HEAVY), one of the few Ibanez models that you pick up and say to yourself, "This ain't no usual Ibanez..."

 Thick P bass-y neck, massive bridge that offers top load and string through, it's just an awesome bass to me...I have the fretted and fretless ATK300, and a PGB1 is super hard to find right now

I’m looking to closely replicate the tone of a genuine EB MM Stingray but unfortunately they are quite a bit out of my budget. There is a Ibanez ATK PGB1 (Paul Gray signature bass) on sale on marketplace that is slightly out of my price range but I figured I should buy it and be happy instead of buying something cheap and dull sounding and still being dissatisfied. I have only slightly looked into the Sterling series Ray4, but from what I’ve seen they do not have that Stingray famous “punchy” mid/treble rich tone. Can anyone contest this? Can a Ray4 be setup/improved to more closely sound like a genuine Stingray or is this a lost cause? Any other suggestions for mimicking the stingray tone? I have had 2 Ibanez SR series and although they both had great tone it still wasn’t exactly what I was looking for.

Ibanez ATK or Sterling Ray4

 And we look at them and just kind of celebrate them in this series. So one of the last ones I did is what you see behind me right now, which is a 73 or 74 Gibson grabber bass that I own, which is a wonderful instrument. We did a video on that one. And today we're looking at this Ibanez ATK 300

 And then instead of a passive tone knob, this is an active bass with a preamp in it that runs on a battery. And this is a three-band active EQ right here. So we have treble, mids, and bass. So obviously, you know, with this different flexibility, that makes this a great studio bass and also a great live bass

 And, you know, if you can come across one of these ATKs, it's a beautiful bass. I mean, this natural piece of wood here is just really nice looking, really beautiful to the touch. The neck is really smooth. It feels like kind of a satin urethane finish to it that's kind of been rubbed down a little bit over the years

 And what we have here is a three-way toggle switch to switch between the different rails in the pickup. Another cool thing is we have a master volume here. And then instead of a passive tone knob, this is an active bass with a preamp in it that runs on a battery. And this is a three-band active EQ right here

I don't know much about basses, but based on a bit of research I think **I want a Jazz bass, and preferably a 5 string** (if you don't think I should start with a 5, let me know). Recommendations for bass amps are also very welcome. I'm trying to keep on the cheap side for now, so probably a budget of like **$500-ish,** including the amp. Thanks for the help! (Also, I'm willing to buy secondhand, so if there are any basses that are a bit out of my budget that you think I could find on eBay/Reverb, I'm open to that too.)

 All control set, flat, pick up position one, volume up full. You can hear that it's really close to a Music Man stingray. It's kind of got that signature high-end thing going for it. Let's go ahead and hear position two

 The other notable feature about this guitar is that it is massive. You can see it's got this huge hunk of metal for a bridge and the biggest chunkiest neck I've ever seen on an Ibanez bass. Ibanez basses are kind of famous or infamous for having extremely thin, fast necks, but the ATK is certainly a departure from that vision. Most Ibanezs feel more like a thin jazz bass, or the ATK feels more like a thicker P bass

 I found out that one of the wires was lose from the soldering thing. Once I had that fixed a couple of days later there was a buzzing sound. I found out that it was the truss rod that was doing that. I returned the bass a couple of days after that

Bottom-line is; if you don't mind the weight, this bass is an amazing alternative to a fender.  The one I played was selling for 500 at a local music store, so it sells for less than most Fenders, other than the standard series.

This bass is one of the coolest looking basses I have ever seen, and it sounds awesome, but when I stood up with the bass, it felt like I was playing a lead pipe. Heavy Metal

.  In fact, the pre works as well (if not better) than the pre in my Traben Chaos Obsession 5-string.  This bass tracks very well in the studio and sounds great live.  It does kind of knock off a MusicMan, but think about it: you can get MM feel and tone from a similar bass for HUNDREDS less than a MM

I own the ATK700 4-string that MF just had on a clearance sale, and it is AWESOME!!  The ATK700 is simply this bass without a pickguard with a dark blue dyed figured maple top (the moon blue is a gorgeous finish).  Its prettier, but essentially its the same bass.Back to the title line, I used to own an Ibanez SR406 6-string that I had to sell because bill collectors were calling.  Reluctantly, I got rid of it, and didn't realize how much I have missed Ibanez until receiving the 700

..  It might just be me, but its a no brainer!  The only thing lacking in my opinion is a pickup at the neck, but as much as I love the tone coming from the triple coil, I may not even do that.Great fingerstyle or pick tone, excellent slap tone, plays great, good for many different styles of music (not just rock and metal), and affordable

I've missed Ibanez

  I leave it in the bright position and it has a nice "Marcus Miller" fat sound right there.  So far, it shuts down my P and J basses and gives the MusicMan (at 5 times the cost) the shivers.  I don't care that it was so cheap- I'll never consider this my "beater".  YOU WON'T GO WRONG

  This is Ibanez's "ENTRY" level??  Holy you-know-what! It was so easy to dial in the desired tone. And, it came equipped with a beautiful set of ELIXIR roundwounds.  There's anothers thirty bucks I won't have to shell out for a while.  Not what I expected for a "Made in Indonesia" product

Having owned or still owing higher end USA basses (Fender Jazz, Precision, Lakland, MusicMan), I wanted to find myself a cheap "beater" that I could take to gigs and not worry about having it be damaged or stolen.  Based on all the positive reviews from others, I figured I couldn't go wrong.  As soon as I picked up this thing and played the first note- unplugged, I knew I was getting more than a cheap bass here.  When I plugged it in---WOW!!!!!!!!!  Serious tone here, piano like clarity and beautiful overtones

  There's a 3 way switch that allows you to add brightness or attack (phasing, I believe).  Useful as all heck.  I leave it in the bright position and it has a nice "Marcus Miller" fat sound right there.  So far, it shuts down my P and J basses and gives the MusicMan (at 5 times the cost) the shivers

OUT OF THIS WORLD SOUND FOR A BASS AT ANY PRICE

 You can get a very Vintage Rick sound on the Traditional setting, the Bright setting is phenomenal for slap or if you would just like a very bright tone (and when I say bright, I mean this thing illuminates!), and with the Attack setting you can unleash a barrage of notes and riffs with a tone that would inspire a deaf man to pick up the bass Guitar. The sound of this bass just floored me and the playability was astounding! If you want a smooth ride, this bass puts Cadillac to shame. This thing is quite the bang for its buck. I would say if you're looking for a new bass but don't want to drop a couple grand, pick this up

 As I was looking through I saw this gem tucked away in the top corner wall mount.I pulled it down and plugged it into a replica of my amp (a Fender Rumble 100) and went to town. This bass is one of the most tone diverse basses I have ever played on. The 3 band EQ is amazing and very responsive and the little switch that you see in the bottom left corner of the bass (right corner if you're playing it) splits the coils and sends more power to certain ones to get a different sound

Phenomenal Bass!
