Ibanez SR305 EB 5 String Bass Demo -  A Cheap 5 String Bass That Doesn't Suck!

So here we go with another “which is best” post. My birthday is coming up soon so I’ve decided to finally get a **nice** bass. I currently have an Ibanez MiKro which is lovely but I can hear the problems you get with a &lt;$200 bass when I play. Time for better!

I prefer playing alternative and metal hence wanting a 5-string (I play other genres for practice but we all have that style that makes us happy). I love me some Ibanez and am trying to decide between the sr300 and sr500. As far as I can see they have the same features but the sr505 improved hardware. Is there a noticeable difference in the two? 

I need to clarify that I am not a professional musician nor do I intend to become one. I just really like playing music as a hobby.

Ibanez SR305 vs SR505: worth the extra$?

Neck had a bad back bow, I was barely able to make it play-able. Also fret board was suppose to be made of Jatoba and it looks like rosewood to me. !!! Also Ibanez need a different bridge design, on how the bridge holds the strings, I have 3- 305 bass guitars and the first one I bought the strings just slip right through the bridge, it has bent with age from stress. Was not a good design from the start !!!

I have been playing guitar and bass sense 1973, good thing I know how to work on them.

 This bass here has been my bass of choice since 2009 I think, 2008 is when I bought this bass. I have a 1966 Fender Precision and if you've ever played one of those you know that bass is very heavy, the neck is really wide, it's not a very playable bass but it sure does sound good and I wanted a more playable bass and I was thinking about a 5 string bass anyway. So I went to the music store and ended up getting this one. This bass is a Ibanez SR305, it's a 5 string bass, it has active pickups on it and I like it a lot

 This bass has a, this bass, I think it's a preamp, this knob here, it's not a volume knob but it's more like a power knob or something, I'm not real sure but this is the volume knob here, master volume, this is going to be a tone knob or switch between the bridge and neck pickups and then this has got the EQ right here, it's two knobs in one, the top knob is for the high and the outer knob is for low. And again this bass is very playable and it sounds really good. This bass doesn't have a real good slap and pop tone to it and I believe the reason why is because of these strings, I'm going to get some elixirs, some new elixirs this weekend to put on it and see if that helps slap and pop sound on it but for every other genre that I've played with this bass and I've played this bass in bands before, it sounds really good, it's definitely a good jazz sound to it. And anyway, yeah this is it, I like it a lot, I'd recommend this bass to anyone, it's again relatively inexpensive, I think I paid just under $400 for it, 380 something and some change and it's a very good bass, I'd recommend this one to anyone

 So I went to the music store and ended up getting this one. This bass is a Ibanez SR305, it's a 5 string bass, it has active pickups on it and I like it a lot. The other day I sat down and actually took the time to adjust the action on the strings back here on the bridge and check the intonation of each string and made some small adjustments there but you talk about playable. For a relatively inexpensive 5 string bass this is it in my opinion

I've been playing bass (Yamaha trbx 174) for around a year now and was thinking about upgrading with a 5 string.

Budget is up to around 600, and currently my top picks are Sterling Ray5HH and Esp Ltd B-205

Unfortunately the only similar instrument nearby I could try is a single H Stingray, though from what I can tell the HH is close in tone to the classic 1H, but not quite the same (so why bother with a stingray than doesn't "sting" as much as the real deal right?)

The Esp seems affordable and very versatile, also just love the way it looks

Any thoughts and opinions on either or more suggestions are more than welcome!

First 5 string, help

This is my first 5 string bass and it sounds really good for the price point. If you want that Fieldy (Korn) clanky bass sound, this is great for that (turn your mids all the way down and lows/highs all the way up and detune a full step down)..

My First 5 String Bass

 Big humbucker but with a big kind of poke. It's very very cool. Again the EQ is very powerful. Boost and cut the mids, treble and the bass

 So we've got a power tap, a series and the tap and then volume and then obviously front pickup and back pickup. The pickups are amazingly powerful in these guys. They're the Ibanez power span dual pickups. So like Heath was saying, you can tap them

Ibanez SR305E 5 String Electric Bass - Exclusive Iron Pewter Finish

I have an Ibanez SR305 and it is my most played bass. Lightweight, slim body, slim neck, I can get Just about any tone I want out of it. I'm biased but I say go for the Ibanez.

I'd be glad to hear opinions on any of these two, or other 5 strings around this price range you recommend and I could have slipped over.  I had been mostly playing on a 4 string Ibanez before, which I am totally satisfied with, but I had very nice experiences with some Harley Benton basses too.

Please also bear in mind that I live in Eastern Europe so Thomann and this price range is kind of my only option.

 Something else. Man, it's a great sounding instrument. This has been one of my favourite all about the bass episodes so far. We're just running into a little Fender, well, I say little, sort of a medium sized Fender Rumble 200 bass amp with everything flat

 We've got to get into some tones, man. Okay. So let's just start with an explanation of what the knobs and buttons do and just you just take it away, Nath, tell us about the tones. Okay

 This certainly does a slap thing very well. I like it in power tap mode, I think. Do you? Yeah, did you not? Power tap was my favourite tone you had with a little bit of mid range scooped out and a little bit of extra bottom and top. Oh, right

 Skinnier than a jazz. Oh, I dare you to say what they're about. Marginal. Modern-looking bass, so, you know, elongated kind of horns, compact body
