 At Three Grand, it's our most expensive bike here, but at least you won't have to upgrade the tires. They definitely suit the bike's intentions quite well. The other thing that I like, and we're going to say this a lot in these reviews: the bikes drive train, that Shimano Drivetrain chef's so damn good. and then the other standout, the Fox Suspension

 that rhythm fork, the float shock. This stuff just works really well and it might not have all the dials of the more expensive stuff, but you don't need it. Let's get into the pros and cons and let's start with the good stuff. Yeah, the good thing is the classic trail bike is still around and the only thing that's changed is that it's more capable than ever

 And if that describes the kind of bike that you're looking for, if you don't want to push around more travel than you need, then the Ibis is a great option. The other plus to this bike? I mean Sarah. I don't think this is much of a surprise. It's the climbing, it's that Dw suspension

Ibis' $3,000 Ripley AF Review: Precise AF | 2021 Pinkbike Field Trip

Ibis Ripley, GX build with carbon wheels. Great climber, amazingly poppy and fun, and a capable descender outside of very rough chunk.

I'm shopping for a bike to replace my Titus X that was stolen (mostly my own fault for not securing well). I loved the swift climbing of the Titus X which was set up for mainly XC use. I've ridden my brother's Pivot 429 which descends well, but was difficult to keep a line during climbs... though it was also sized incorrectly as he rides an L and I take an XL typically.

I'm now considering a Salsa Horsethief which my LBS has an XL in stock and a Trek Top Fuel, which I haven't test ridden yet as there is no stock within 500 miles of me. 

I love to ride flowing fast trails with banked turns and occasional hills and descents. I'm not really into park style, jumps, or pure downhill, but I do appreciate versatility in my bike. The Horsethief that I test rode seemed very versatile which enough travel to take hits. I tried out the Salsa Spearfish while I was there. That felt a lot more like my old Titus X as far as stiffness and responsiveness. 

Any other options that I should really be considering?

Looking for a new dual suspension in the $6000-$7000 range

 So lastly, who is this bike for? Um, maybe I'll start this off with who. It's not for terrible grammar. It is not for the Xc racer. It's not for someone who wants to just sprint uphill until you're like snotty and drooling and really unpleasant

 Even though it has an aluminum frame that's supposedly dead, it doesn't write that way. You know it still has that lively, engaging, fun character that the Ripley is known for. So you get all of that goodness combined with the degree slacker headtube angle goodness, you've got a really, really good descending trail bike. One thing I noticed: I haven't seen kinematic charts on this, but just guessing I'd say there's either a bigger spacer or the suspension is more progressive than the Carbon Ripley

Ibis Ripley AF Review: The Little Engine That Could

Right now the Ibis Ripley AF is the best $3400 bike out there- fox performance suspension an NX/GX (where it truly counts!) build, if you can find one. The other bike I'm a big fan of for what it offers is the Giant Trance X 29 2. For a bit more, you can go carbon with something like a specialized epic evo base model ($3800) or an Ibis Ripley or ripmo for just over 4k.

I’ve rented both from REI in the past and had a blast on both. I live in AZ so lots of terrain to chose from. I would imagine that I will mostly be riding moderate incline trail, dry and rocky. I’m willing to drop the cash, so does it make sense to just go full suspension?

Hardtail or Full Suspension?

 Yeah, like it's it's on. You know it's like we don't want to say that 3200 is cheap, but it's it's on that level of like all right this this might be somebody's first mountain bike. Yeah, definitely. it might be somebody's 10th mountain bike right? but it's it's like it could be both

 which is the nice thing about it. So this build is the Shimano Dior build. Um, Dior is kind of like the least expensive of Shimano's performance lineup. Yeah, um, it's I guess you could say the fourth level down

 So what they changed about it on top of the aluminum frame is the geometry got a little bit more forgiving. We talk about head angle a lot, and that's the angle of the fork and it got a little more slack. So when you're going at speed, it's not quite as touchy when you're turning like it's a little more forgiving a full degree. So yeah, yeah

 And for people like us who are really used to those top ends that we can get on a bike with this level of components and and not finding anything lacking is really impressive. Yeah, yeah, it definitely does. Didn't feel like they made really any sacrifices when they were deciding what parts went on this bike for the price level. Obviously, you know, like the brakes are good, the drive train is good, the suspension obviously

Ibis Ripley AF Review - The Beta Tests

Consider the Ibis Ripley -- 130/120 travel that rips on XC trails but absolutely handles its own on the downhill. On top of that, it climbs like a rocket.

I’m currently riding a 2015 Devinci Django carbon 27.5”, lowest model with NX components. My local New England trails are majority xc style single track but covered in rock gardens and roots where there is as much technical uphill as there is down hill. I’m not big into bike parks so the only times I find myself getting airborne are launching off natural trail features.

I asked around my local shop for suggestions based on local conditions and they recommended bumping up to a bike with bigger suspension and 29” tires, preferably a mullet configuration. They recommended either a Bronson or Stumpjumper EVO. I don’t want to make a mistake purchase, does anyone have experience with 150/160mm travel bikes in more of a cross country setting or have other suggestions? I prefer a livelier bike that I can throw around and have fun on as opposed to a long, low, stable speed machine (I spent a good amount of time on a Orbea Occam and was not a fan, the bike feels like it rides itself). I was thinking about going with the Stumpjumper EVO, sizing down to an S2, and keeping it set to the steepest and highest settings. I’m worried about how much climbing ability I’m actually going to lose. I’m seeing YouTube reviewers talk about climbing ability but they all appear to ride at trail centers with dedicated fire road style climbs as opposed to the single track climbs that I see

Looking for bike upgrade suggestions

Upgrading from a Specialized Rockhopper Comp.

This will be my first full suspension trail bike. I’m still very new to mountain biking (started roughly 4 months ago). I live in Southern California and I mostly ride the local trails. I enjoy riding flowy, somewhat technical trails and doing baby jumps! Hoping to hit Skypark or Snow Summit this summer as well. 

The debate I’m currently having is between a carbon frame (spectral/jeffsy) with SRAM components vs aluminum frame with Shimano components, which I’ve heard really great things about(meta tr). I’m slightly worried about the weight of the Meta TR as well.

Which FS trail bike? Budget range $2800-4k

Coming from a Stache 5. Looking for the best all around bike. I ride in Ohio but a few times a year may hit the mountains in WV, Tenn, or CO up. 

The Ripmo seems like a better deal with DVO suspension for basically the same price - but I know 160/147 will be overkill for a lot of trails. But maybe more future proof than the 130/120 Ripley. 

Ripley I know will climb a little better and can descend well too, but both bikes are heavy and both climb well. 

If you could only have one bike which would you choose of these two? Open to recommendations but pretty set on one of these two.

<p>EDIT - I am more confused and conflicted than ever lol. Seems like every other response is a different opinion. Either way I appreciate the advice. I’ll call some local bike shops and get their opinions.</p>

If you could have ONE bike - Ibis Ripley AF or Ibis Ripmo AF?

I am looking to get my first full suspension trail bike as an upgrade from my 2017 Rockhopper Comp that I have had for the last 4 summers. I'm a big guy at 6'5" so I'll be looking at the XL/XXL/S5 or S6 size on any of these and my budget is about $3000 give or take a couple hundred. For terrain I ride mostly in southern Michigan trail loops, varied terrain from sandy, rocky, rooted depending on where I go, nothing too extreme. But I'm looking to start traveling more for biking and hitting more places on the east coast, PA, NJ, NY etc. places with more mountainous terrain so that's why I'm looking at stuff in the 130 mm travel range opposed to a more XC oriented bike which is probably more ideal for my local terrain.  Currently leaning towards the StumpJumper Compl Alloy mostly because I like the shop that I bought my current specialized from. But the other bikes seem relatively comparable in geo/spec and all have shops relatively local to me.  Any advice is appreciated.

<p>Edit: Pulled the trigger on a Specialized Stumpjumper Comp Alloy.  Got lucky and they had an S5 in stock, felt good on reach and size. I think the slightly shorter bike suits my riding style and trails a bit more compared to if I went for the S6 which wasn&#39;t available anyway. Hoping I like the bike once it warms up and I can hit the trails. Feels way different than my old Rockhopper in the quick test ride around the lot but a 5.5 degree slacker head angle will do that. </p>
