 Intel's outgoing flagships To see how it stands up to them. Intel have been lagging behind Amd in the high-end cpu market for a while now, at least a couple of generations. The 11th generation failed to push the game forwards, and certainly the flagship 11th generation cpus weren't a good option, and the last really decent cpu they released the 10900k and the 10850k are now 18 months old and showing their age a little bit. To address this, Intel have redesigned the 12th Gen architecture from the ground up

 This design philosophy aids the kind of design we've seen in mobile chip architectures for a long time now where you sometimes want very efficient cores, but it's still to be proven in the desktop environment where it actually brings advantages to the consumer. In total, then the Cpu has 12 physical cores. There's 25 megabytes of level 3 cache, and it has Intel's Uhd 770 graphics on board as well. The K specification means that on a Z690 motherboard, such as we're testing it with, it's also an overclockable cpu with unlocked multipliers and you can tweak voltage and things like that to make the cpu perform to your preference

 It's been a long time in the making, it's now on the 10 nanometer production process, and it uses a hybrid architecture of both large performance cores and smaller, more efficient efficiency cores. So for example, the I7 12700k that we're releasing now has eight performance cores with multi-threading so that's 16 logical cores there, plus an additional four efficiency cores that can be brought to bear on multi-threaded tasks. This design philosophy aids the kind of design we've seen in mobile chip architectures for a long time now where you sometimes want very efficient cores, but it's still to be proven in the desktop environment where it actually brings advantages to the consumer. In total, then the Cpu has 12 physical cores

 This generation of cpus, and the 12700k in particular then are vital for Intel to re-establish their authority in the enthusiast cpu market. So let's get straight into the testing and find out what it can do. For our test setup, We ran this cpu in the Msi Tomahawk Z690 motherboard. It's a mid-range motherboard that we thought would be representative of the kind of quality and feature set that most users would want to pair with this cpu

 The conclusion is this: It is an amazing CPU, runs faster and cooler than my Ryzen 7 1700. The price AND performance VS AMD (Also including a board) was better than if I had went with a Ryzen 7 5800X.  Some background information: I wanted to upgrade after receiving an Amazon gift card (I have never ordered computer parts from Amazon though). I upgraded from a Ryzen 7 1700, with an ASUS x370-f board

" I was then going to get the Ryzen 7 5800X with an Asus board. There lied a problem of price, I could not find a board AND get that CPU still within my budget (At-least not a board that wasn't worse than the one I had in ways). I mentioned I had posted on the AMD subreddit, and even they suggested I go Intel (Intel is just killing it as of now, hands down, although I am sure AMD will retaliate). I ended up getting the MSI Z690-A DDR4 (I wish I had the money for DDR5 RAM, I would have went with the DDR5 version as it was basically the same price)

The best CPU I've owned so far. Rivaling even the 5900X! Intel is killing the game as of now.

 This is all very good news, but it doesn't offer make my review of the Core I7 12700k slightly complicated. Happily, having given you that preamble, we can now park the various memories and the I5 and the I9 and we can bring in the test bench and the Core S7 12700k. Our test system consists of the Msi Meg Z690 Unifi motherboard processor obviously Core I7 12, 700 K and we have a separate Rocket 4.0 Ssd memory

 The I5 I could push by 500 megahertz. this I7 exactly in the middle 300 megahertz. And it's a sensible overclock. and it runs nice and cool under load

 However, Core I7 is 200 pounds cheaper than Core I9, The Core I9 that I don't much like. So my conclusion to this review is: forget about Core I9 12 900 K, Core I7 12 700 K makes far better sense. However, kick Guru's vote still goes to the Core I5 12 600 K. So when Intel said to me when we're heading into the launch of these processors, yes, yes, we'll give you a Core I7, but don't focus on it too much

 Much more different than I would ever have expected in the first place. And now I've looked through those charts again, it's really come home. However, Core I7 is 200 pounds cheaper than Core I9, The Core I9 that I don't much like. So my conclusion to this review is: forget about Core I9 12 900 K, Core I7 12 700 K makes far better sense

 Price For price, the 12 700 makes more sense in decompression. Amd has a significant technology advantage in some of the benchmarks, but for the most part, Intel is pulling ahead here. Amd remains the efficiency kin right now where Intel is reminding us of Amd in the past. It's competing on price, and it's a little bit power hungry in its effort to try and compete

 today. We've already reviewed the 12 900k, the 12 600k. Now we're coming in with the Cpu that slots in right between those two in terms of price and that'll round out the stack From what Intel has released so far with Alderley before, that, this video is brought to you by Squarespace. We use Squarespace for our own Gn store and juggle complex multi-piece orders all the time with it

 but if you're just gaming, maybe go for the the F variant instead. If you're buying a dedicated Gpu versus Amd the 5800 X, we would need to see a more permanent or widespread price reduction in order to consider it. I've had this overclocked at 5.0 GHz for a couple weeks now and it hasn't skipped a beat. I bought an MSI Z690 MPG Edge Motherboard to pair with this beast of a chip. Keep in mind, it does NOT come with a cooler so make sure you have a reputable thermal paste and a solid cooler to pair with this

Ridiculously fast

 As for the motherboards, I've again gone with the Msi, Z690, Tomahawk Wi-fi Ddr4 for testing the 12th Gen Core series processors in this review. Now, due to the hybrid core design of Elder Lake, the 12700 Kf, along with most of the 12th Gen processors, require Windows 11 and its improved thread scheduler for optimal performance. Therefore, I've tested using a fresh install of Windows 11., that being the case, I felt compelled to do the same for all other test systems, especially after discovering that rising gaming performance is typically a little faster using the more modern operating system

 Finally, the last test system note worth mentioning is the fact that all application and gaming data has been collected using the Amd Radeon Rx 6900 Xt graphics card. Okay, I think that covers everything. Let's dive into the results. Starting with Cinebench R23, we find some rather brutal results for Amd

 Well, actually, that and the price. The 12700k is currently retailing for 450 us, while the Kf model is slightly cheaper at 430 Us, and that means these parts are competing directly with Amd's Ryzen 7500x, which features an Msrp of 450 us, but it is currently down to around 390 us. In terms of specifications, the 12700k series packs 12 cores in total, made up by eight performance cores with four efficient cores for 20 threads. So that's a very similar configuration to that of the core I9 models, but with four fewer E-cores That said, the L3 cache capacity has also been downgraded from 30 megabytes to 25 megabytes, so that's a 17 decrease there

 Definitely getting down voted for that one quickly. Moving on, then for everyone else, it's going to come down to pricing in your region for not just the Cpus, but also the motherboards. Then of course, your use case is also very important. For example, will you be mixing productivity with gaming? And if so, does one cpu offer a performance advantage in your particular application or applications? Obviously, for stuff like code, compilation, work, rendering, or really any other Cpu intensive task, the Core I7 12 700 Kf is the obvious option, and for Amd to turn that around, they're probably going to need to do some price cuts, and that is something they could very easily do should they feel the need
