The BEST Soundbar UNDER $400 - JBL 5.1 Soundbar Review

 The JBL is simple plug and play the sound sounds good. There are basically no options. Note other sound bars have different sound modes that one will never use.  Wish JBL please update the bass level to have a realistic and simple low setting/night/voice mode

 But weak 50 watt bar. Sounds good but sub woofer is too much. Has no level control at all. Yes there is a option to adjust bass low/med/high but in reality it is HIGH vs EXTRA HIGH

 Still wished the bar was 100 watts.  I agree it has ultimate bass powerful 300 watt 10” sub. But weak 50 watt bar. Sounds good but sub woofer is too much

  Other important notes it has Airplay2! Requires minimum iOS 11.4. That’s what sold it for me. I was considering the smaller JBL 2

 You can't hear it upfront as good as you can hear it with these. And as you can see on the screen, they're walking through a windy area, but up front, you can't hear the wind. But on these two mics, that's all you hear is wind blowing. All right, but so I'm going to put you guys in the center of the room, then I'm going to turn it up loud

 This is where you can get your big old Bowman movie theater feel right here. It's a pretty, it's a pretty big speaker, but it's not too bad. What I have, I have it right here behind the couch. So when watching the movies, the couch feels like it's shaking

 So let's check it out. So as the speaker is pretty simple, you just have your power and your volume buttons and your source button. It has two HDMI ports, your optical and cable, which I have connected, and it also has Bluetooth. That's what I'm using right now

Sigh. I was so disappointed after a few weeks with this guy. I like that the build and materials feel premium. Comparing to other sound bars, the 10" sub is generous and pretty good for me although I mostly kept it at the lowest level

 You are now forced to watch movies and play volume games EVERY TIME you use this thing  Ok. So I get that the volume modulates up and down based on what's going on in the movie or whatever. The problem is that this sound bar just can't keep a happy medium. I tried the smart mode and it doesn't help

1 Surround. I said it on the last version of the Bar 5.1 and I'll say it again on this one. This is absolutely one of the best value soundbars you can get

 The other nice feature this offers is auto calibration. This is another thing that can sound tricky if you've never had an audio system for your TV but it's not. All you have to do is set the speaker up where you want it, sit where you're going to be doing most of your listening and then you hold down the HDMI button on that provided remote until the calibration starts. It'll go through a series of sounds that are basically trying to reflect around the room and it's going to calibrate the speaker to match that environment where it's located

 Now an important thing to remember on the USB is that just like on the BAR-20 that we looked at recently, it's labeled only for service however it does work to playback audio files and according to JBL that feature is only available on the models that are made for the US market. In addition to those inputs this also has Google Chromecast and Apple's AirPlay 2 built in for casting audio to the soundbar, unfortunately it doesn't work for video though. All your controls are going to be located here on the top of the speaker or on the simplified remote that comes in the box which really make it an easy system to use. Anyone who might be intimidated at the thought of adding a soundbar to their TV will definitely appreciate that

 So rather than speakers in different physical locations around you, it's actually bouncing the sound off of the walls to create that same effect. It's not quite as effective but it still sounds really good and I think people are going to appreciate the ease of setup too, it's not quite as intimidating. Plus JBL upped the power of this system to 550 watts from 510 on the original and this system really does pound. This 10 inch wireless subwoofer that it comes with and it's 300 watt amp is really the best you're going to find in this system at this price point

JBL Bar 5.1 Surround Soundbar Review - YouTube

 Despite what it says on the marketing materials, this system does not "throw" sound adequately to create any surround effect. I am also disappointed at how few parameter controls there are (mix, eq, balance, etc). A real disappointment.

I did a ton of research and this appeared to be a good choice to upgrade my previous BAR (vizio brand). I've used it daily for 2 months now and I should have kept shopping. The sub sounds amazing and has plenty of power. Blue tooth setup was a breeze

I love JBL products but this is a little disappointing. You have no dynamic control of the sound at all. Volume up and down, cannot seem to dial in the sound at all. Not impressed with the over $500 spent!

Ended up returning this. Sound quality got a solid “not bad”, but at this price point, I expect better.

 Overall, i'd say that either of the sb450 or the 5.1 would be very difficult to beat w/out a full surround sound setup with dedicated r/l/c speakers + sub-woofer. Have listened to Bose soundbar setups in store, and i believe the 5.1 is still superior

 sounds just a touch "flat" comparatively. it's still outstanding when compared to most any other ~2003-300 or so $$$ product. Remote control offers low/med/hi option for bass control.
