If you are looking to stay under $400, check out the 2022 K2 Mindbender 85 at [Skiessentials.com](https://Skiessentials.com). It's a good starter all mountain ski that you can get with a binding for about $430. It's a more versatile ski, and gets you out of system bindings, but might be as well optimized for the groomers. However, I think it will last you longer if you expect to go beyond groomers at some point.

It’ll probably cost you more but it is 100% worth it. If money is an issue get boot fitted and buy a used ski with bindings attached. Besides that the Mindbender 85 is a perfect ski for an intermediate who spends most of their time on groomers leisurely skiing but occasionally explores off the groomers. Bindings will work too.

Looking at some K2 Mindbender 85’s (2022 model)for my first ski. I’Ve only skiied at Liberty (PA) a handful of times, but plan to go to Snowshoe (WV) this season. I’m a new skiier (havent tried a blue yet), 42yo, 5’11, 215lbs.

If renting isn't an option or you're set on getting your own gear, you'll want to look at boots around 90 flex and some easygoing skis that are on the shorter end. Something like the K2 Mindbender 85, Atomic Maverick 86C or Nordica Soul Rider 87 are accessible, easy all mountain skis with decent to excellent performance ceilings. There's also true beginner/intermediate skis with composite wood cores (basically particle board) which are cheap, like the Elan Element or Head V-Shape V2 and V4.
