 This is the widest of Kessley's mountain cross collection, which is 88mm underfoot, features a full vertical sidewall here, really helps with that edge grip and powering through turns. Unlike most of our all-mountain skis, this is a full camber ski, so no rocker in this thing, so you know it's really going to handle well, powerful turns. TLDR: Are Nordica 100 (177cm) skis too heavy for a 6’2” 175lb guy?

For background, I’m 6’2” - 175lbs 31y/o male and an upper intermediate skier that is pretty athletic. I ski mostly groomers, half blues half single/double blacks. I live on the East coast but go out west at least one week a year.

I was excited to find a great pair of used nordica enforcer 100s (177cm) for a great deal and they’ve barely been used. However when I told the ski pro guy he nicely recommended that I buy a lighter or shorter ski because he said I’m too light for this ski in that size. I was bummed because everything I’ve read and researched had me pretty excited about them.

He said I shoud look at Blizzard Rustlers or Atomic Chetlers instead. Is he right?

Ski Shop Rep told me not to buy Nordica 100s.

I own a pair of Fischer Rc4 World Cup RCs from the early 2000s (maybe 2005?). I skied them several weeks a year back then, but they have only been used a few days a year for the last 10-12 years. They look to be in good condition with good edges and no scratches. Bindings are still well-oiled and not damaged.

Do skis get old? Are they objectively worse now than 10 years ago but without me noticing? 

Should I throw them out right away and get a deal on a pair of Kästle MX84 that are on sale? 😄

Do skis age?

 You know, that squared off tail is really going to hold tight to the end of the turn. Same thing can be said for the taper. So the widest part here lines up with where that splay starts. That's going to give you a very long effective edge, you know, and a smoother turn overall

 You know, pretty stiff thanks to that build. You know, this hollow tech here does take up a little bit of that, you know, makes it a little more approachable in the shovel. By reducing the mass in the shovel here, any vibrations they go away faster so it does help, you know, take away that unwanted chatter. But overall from, you know, from here back, this ski is about as stable and strong as it gets

 So that's it. That is the Kessley MX 88. Fantastic ski from Kessley. Just awesome engineering

 So by reducing the mass in the front of the ski, they're taking away stuff to bounce. So when this thing gets chattering, it just calms down a lot quicker, which is pretty nice. But pretty stiff overall flex, you know, this is one of the better carving, you know, in that 88 to 90 millimeter range for sure. And we've just really had a blast on any types of versions of this ski over the years, but now even more so, we get two sheets of pre-preg fiberglass in here to go along with two sheets of metal

 So the middle portion of the ski, very dense and stable and strong, and then on the outside that poplar makes it a little bit lighter and more forgiving. So you can get it up on edge a little bit easier than some of the more strictly frontside skis in Kestley's lineup, lending to that more all-mountain behavior. Also get Holotec 3.0 in the shovel that has a nice carbon inlay in it, nice and stiff, as well as reducing vibrations, lightens the swing weight

 But pretty stiff overall flex, you know, this is one of the better carving, you know, in that 88 to 90 millimeter range for sure. And we've just really had a blast on any types of versions of this ski over the years, but now even more so, we get two sheets of pre-preg fiberglass in here to go along with two sheets of metal. So having that fiberglass pre-made does take away a little bit of consistency issues, really makes this predictable from tip to tail, gives it an excellent amount of snap and energy. So even for something that feels a little bit heavier on the feet in the mid part, it does have amazing, amazing energy to it

 This is a 173, we're getting a 17.1 meter turn radius, pretty average for skis of this shape and style, kind of keeps it in the mid range for making different types of turns on different terrain. But really the construction, you know, having those denser stringers in the middle combined with the two sheets of metal and two sheets of fiberglass make this a on trail cruiser that there isn't a whole lot else out there that feels like this Kessley MX-88 for sure.  Is it worth the price? It kind of depends on your financial situation, but if you can afford something like this, the quality and precision is really unmatched in the ski industry. And so there you have it. That is just these wonderful skis from Kessley, really well-made skis, highly precise for most snow conditions. This isn't really the powder ski version, but really loves that all-mountain format

 You can really generate the power out of the tail versus having to have it underfoot. So just a really nice overall ski with precision and quality to spare. Is it worth the price? It kind of depends on your financial situation, but if you can afford something like this, the quality and precision is really unmatched in the ski industry. And so there you have it

 This is the Kessley MX-88. This is a redesigned ski for this year, kind of takes the place of the MX-89 from previous years and just an absolutely gorgeous ski here. I don't really even want to get this thing dirty. It's so nice looking

 That is just these wonderful skis from Kessley, really well-made skis, highly precise for most snow conditions. This isn't really the powder ski version, but really loves that all-mountain format.
