 I'm gonna be doing a couple reviews with this as well. I'm gonna be comparing it against many of the other top level keyboards on the market as well as its predecessors, the MP 11, which as I mentioned, I own. So in another video, I'll be comparing the MP 11 to the MP 11 Se. Seeing what's new sitting was different but in today's video couldn't be taken out of the box and showing you what it would look like if you bought a brand new MP 11 Se

 And speaking of this keyword, before we go getting to unboxing it, this exact keyboard that I will be reviewing and unboxing in this video will actually be for sale after I am done with it.  Benjamin Kim is an absolutely fantastic person and he also has an absolutely fantastic showroom at this at In. Stanton California He has a few others I haven't been to those but I have been to the one in Stanton I Can definitely say that is one of my favorite piano stores to go visit. He has an absolutely amazing selection of amazing pianos and it's just so much fun to go in there. He's very friendly, the pianos are really great and it's so much fun to go there

 So what he did because he's awesome is he actually specially ordered this keyboard right here just for me and loaned it to me. Isn't that amazing? Isn't that great? So he loaned me this keyboard which is the Kawaii Mp11 SD and the main reason that I wasn't gonna like purchase one is because I already have an MP 11 and I wasn't really going to. you know, replace the MP 11 with the MP 11 se because I have one I don't want to own a new MP 11 I see I have the MP 11.  The Skx has a rather unique sound to its base and I think that's part of the reason why this is sounding a lot different. Let's try the black notes [Music] So that is a sound difference between the bass ends on those two instruments. Let me play you guys another piece here that will demonstrate various sound qualities of these two pianos. What I'm gonna do is play an Eric Satie piece

 Sometimes things come through different on the recording on how the C eights compare on these two pianos. that one's surprisingly quiet. Also, this one sounds a little bit more flat than this one, so maybe they tune the ske X to a different stretch than Steinway does their pianos. But you can hear that the tone of this is a bit different than on the high C 8

 You don't want it to be too bright, you don't want it to be too mellow for a recording session, somewhere in between is very good, and I feel like that is where my piano lies. While this does have a very good piano sound, it is missing out on a few of the very important aspects, such as a bit of a more realistic and prevalent sympathetic resonance. Would it be excellent? It does have it, but it's not quite as prevalent on this as it is on the Steinway. If I play again at that passion to Debussy that's way the ending

 So I'm very, very happy with the way my piano sounds, but compared to something super warm and fuzzy like this, it does sound a bit brighter. [Music] Let's try out the low base [Music] Again, a rather different sound. The Skx has a rather unique sound to its base and I think that's part of the reason why this is sounding a lot different. Kawai MP-11SE vs. Concert Grand

 I didn’t buy this stage piano with the thought or expectation to be doing a whole bunch of synthesized sounds or to mimic other instruments. For folks who are looking specifically for that, I would guess there will be better options out there.  My MP11SE sits in our loft above the garage. I am fairly strong and can lift 300+ pounds with an Olympic bar and weights but wouldn’t dare to lift and carry this instrument aruond by myself

 I don’t intend to travel with it or use it for anything much other than home use with my own jazz and improvisation, but from what I understand, there are very few cases, if any, that are made to fit the size of this instrument. It is bigger and taller than other stage pianos.  The upside to that is it is very well built and has a respectable and commanding presence. Some of the keys and knobs that stick up an inch or so look a bit quirky to me, but oh well

  I am not a scientist, nor have I played all the stage pianos out there, but the main reason I went with this Kawai is that I just wanted a portable digital piano that plays and feels like a genuine real piano. I haven’t found anything that gets close to this. The Roland FP-90 was a good option and much less expensive than this, but I wanted to have something that I would be excited to play on and want to practice.  Thinking I could just make do with something far less expensive, I first purchased the Roland FP-30

 An item that is close to three thousand dollars, and you can’t even find it and play it at a local store?  Well, so it is. Good news is that I was able to play a Kawai MP11. Playing that instrument side by side with a Kawai ES-8 and a Roland FP-90 was, at least to me, exciting but discouraging. I wanted to make the less expensive pianos work, but I knew I wouldn’t be happy with them

Absolute best feel and action feel stage piano

 It's also very quiet. let me give you a test of that. Hopefully you guys could hear that. It's a very quiet action

 This frame is metal. These little slats are metal. This bottom part down here is metal and then it just simply sits into this spot right here. just like that, and that's how it works Now, as much as I love the build quality of it and as much as I love the fact that it comes with one

 So as a recap, the Kauai MP 11 is a very sturdy and well built keyboard with many great sounds and many great features as well. Some of my favorite things about the keyboard would be the action. I Really, really love the feel of the grand feel action. It feels amazing

 The original Mp11 I really enjoy that, and the Mp11 S II is rather similar, but it has received some crucial upgrades which make it even better than the original MP 11, which was good enough for me to buy and I really enjoyed it. Now this video really couldn't have been done without the help of Benjamin Kim from Kim's pianos of Stan's in California because he actually loaned this piano to me free of charge and let me bring it all the way from California to my recording studio and use it in these videos. So I definitely wanted to give him a shout out and tell him thank you for letting me borrow this keyboard. He actually ordered it special for me to use it and do videos with and so if you're in the Stanton California area, it's down by La

Kawai MP11SE In Depth Review!

 To appreciate the string resonance, you may need to increase it. I set mine up at 8 or 9.  Overall, this is an excellent digital piano. For classical musicians who are used to grand pianos, I highly recommend this as a practice piano

 The string resonance and damper noise are very authentic and adding nuance to the music. The included pedal does an excellent job. With other digital pianos, when I press pedal slightly later than it is supposed after the keys were struck, very often the sound is abruptly lost creating a very unnatural release pattern. But, when I play MP11SE with damper pedal, the notes behave very similar to the grand piano

 But, it doesn’t hurt to have an elegant looking instrument that looks and feels like a real piano.  Third, the sound is very acceptable. Because I never played MP11, I cannot compare MP11SE to MP11. To my ears, the “SK Concert Grand” sample sounds very similar to a real grand piano

 This side panel gives a sharper look to the instrument. Probably it does not matter to most. But, it doesn’t hurt to have an elegant looking instrument that looks and feels like a real piano.  Third, the sound is very acceptable

An excellent practice piano for classical pianists!

 Kim for using and making videos on this keyboard. The reason I mentioning him so much and the reason I'm so thankful and grateful for him donating this to me temporarily is because I did contact many of the manufacturers that you're seeing here and none of them wanted to loan me a keyboard for the videos. So when I contacted Kim though, he happily gave me a keyboard. So that's why I'm so thankful because this video kind of couldn't have been done without him

 It doesn't feel light and cheap like some stage pianos can. It's a really great action. So I figured I'd just dive right into it and play a couple of pieces on this and then play the same couple of pieces on this.  I Do like it. The Mp11 S8 not only comes with a high quality music desk, but it comes straight out of the box with a triple pedal pedal unit which is nice. So if you own a piano and you're looking to keep some time off of it because you just paid a lot of money for it and you want to keep it nice for a long time, having an MP 11 Se would be a pretty good way of doing that because it feels a lot like a piano as far as this is close to a piano as you're going to get with a stage model keyboard. So if you have a real piano or want to keep some time off of it, or if you don't have a piano and you simply want to practice the piano, this would be a good option for you because the action feels really great and it also has that triple pedal unit

 On the top we have the Roland Rd Mm which is also I believe Roland's flagship stage Piano. It has a pretty good build quality, absolutely massive amount of sounds. It has 1113 or somewhere in that range of sounds, which is probably about six times as many as this keyboard has. So if you're looking for a keyboard that has an absolutely load of sounds than this one might be an option for you

Roland RD2000 vs. Kawai MP11SE

 (75 lb. of wood and steel.) Unless you have a roadie, you will not want to move this around much. If you plan to tuck your keyboard away in a closet when it's not in use, this is probably not the right choice

Feels and sounds exactly like a piano

 So those are basically the improvements. In a nutshell: it is not an MP 12 which would be a completely new model, it's an MP 11 s II So it's basically a little bit improved. but the key action, the grand feel is still the same. It is still the best key action in the world for a slab piano now

 I Have seen prices on the MP 11 now which are about $500 less than what they were asking for it. so you can basically get the best piano action in the world as far as I'm concerned for a slab piano for a lot less money now than you could have just a few months ago because now the MP 11 Se is out and you can get the MP 11. So that is the best news now as far as me. Obviously I have an MP 11, Do I plan on upgrading that to an SE No as far as I'm concerned, I already have the best piano action right here in the MP 11

 That's gonna disturb people in the next bedroom because the key action alone without sounds is so loud you don't have to worry about that with this. This is one of the quietest in the world. [Music] Boy I Tell you as a professional pianist who with who has played just about every single concert grant in the world from phaseolus and Stein ways and Beck Stein's and everything that you can imagine, this really is a piece of work to be appreciated because it is so close to a concert grand. So in answer to those that have been emailing me and private messaging me about getting one of these, do so with my blessings and do not look back

 So that is the best news now as far as me. Obviously I have an MP 11, Do I plan on upgrading that to an SE No as far as I'm concerned, I already have the best piano action right here in the MP 11. You'll get the same thing in the MP 11. SC So why pay $500 more unless you really want this Shigeru Kawaii piano sample in there which is an awesome piano

 But this one gets it just about right. Practicing on the MP11SE, then going to a concert grand doesn't feel like an adjustment to me. Don't get the VPC1 - it feels like a controller. Get this one
