For the love of God, someone please help me decide on a counter-depth fridge.

 You have to remove the cover with a 'star" driver or a small straight screwdriver. It's not exactly fun to do, but I highly recommend doing this to extend the life of the compressor.

Guess I've been lucky

 The freezer compartment is now all basket wire bins/shelves, and the ice used to have a removable bin, with a scoop, this one has neither, sort of a shallow ice holder. The freezer sometimes pulls out and closes at an angle. Overall noise, is not bad, but there are times when there is a fairly loud vibrating noise. Oh, and the water dispensed you need 2 hands to use, where as the previous one,  put a cup under and press
