Klipsch RP-504C Reference Premiere Center Channel - Unboxing and Overview

Damn. $3k for an Epson 5050ub, $1500 for 5.0 Chane Speakers, $500-1k for Denon receiver. $2k for subwoofers. $150 for Apple TV. Boom. Done.

This is a great room, but don't break the bank.  u/biciklanto had the right idea with his comment. 

Just for context/consideration, I am doing a reno in my house and putting in a *budget* home theater. Gave myself a budget of \~$2k for audio and \~2k for visual. For that, will I get a *truly showstopping* home theater? No. But will it be enough to impress any and all of my friends and provide endless hours of entertainment for me and my family? Hell yeah. 

There's lots of ratings sites and opinionated people online, but the best advice I can give is to *build a setup that gives* ***YOU*** *what you want/need.* Don't build something for the keyboard warriors or AV salesmen that costs more than you want. Past a certain level of investment, and the differences in quality with sound can *literally* be difficult for most to hear. And yet, for that barely-perceptible difference, you might pay an extra grand. Crazy. 

Anyway, here's what I went with:

* Due to my room size and intended use (with pretty frequent ambient light), I went with a 75" 4k TV instead of a projector. With your room, go projector. I can't weigh in on that. 
* Because I've got young kids I went with an in-wall setup (nothing for them to knock over or tamper with). 
* In wall left and right -  Monolith THX-365IW
* In wall Center - Monolith THX-LCR
* Receiver - Denon AVR-X2600H 
* Saving up for a decent subwoofer

Note: this is a 3.1 system, so not "surround sound", but it's a 10ft room and a 3.1 setup will *work for me* and provide plenty of clear audio. I also installed in-wall speaker cable that will enable me to upgrade to full surround in subsequent years. You CAN phase investment in home theater stuff! 

Best of luck. All this detail can be super overwhelming - don't make any snap decisions.

I would probably spend a little more and go with: 

- JBL Synthesis SCL-6 ($1,500 ea.) In-wall L/C/R behind an A/T screen to keep it looking nice and tidy (and very high performance). Cheap out a bit on overheads and surrounds if required (but not too much). Monolith THX in-walls are a great alternative to JBL Synthesis for a low cost in-wall option.

- Denon AVR-X 3700 would be a good place to start (eventually adding a Monolith amp if you think you need more power)

- Rythmik, SVS, Monolith subwoofers (X2) 

- Epson and Optoma make pretty decent projectors at good price points. The JVC is definitely better though. 

Lots of options out there, I just think a dedicated room like that is better off with hidden speakers. Also paint the ceiling matte black for increased performance.

Given the screen is wide, I’d go with a jvc and anamorphic lens, before I’d go with the Sony.  Sony panels lose contrast over time too.

So a couple of the key things that Klipsch is known for is those beautiful orange ceramic metallic woofers right, everybody knows them, it's like the iconic speaker in home theater. And then they got that 90 by 90 tracks of corn with a titanium dome tweeter. All of these things create a beautiful, beautiful speaker, so let's take it out and take a look at it

 I do want to point out this is the reference premier line, the reference series is a nine year old design, they completely redid it and man, there was a lot of improvements, the tweeter, their suspension system, the cabinet itself, the grill, they changed, made it magnetic, really nice finish. They put these cool little gold rings around the woofers too, which I think are beautiful, take it out. Now guys, this is a ported speaker, gives it a little bit more oomph, RP504C, got your gold plated terminals here, really good quality speaker. Alright guys, let's talk some of these specs here, we're looking at a frequency response of 58 to 25 kilohertz, we have a power handling of 125 watt continuous, 600 watt peak, I mean this thing will definitely bump

I’m budgeting $1500 for 5.1.  Never owned discretes (have a Sony HT-CT380) but I’d like something nicer.  

Receiver and TV are separately budgeted for - likely a 77” C2 and some 7.2 receiver in the $500-800 range 


In any case the Emotiva and Klipsch options seem comparable and here are my choices - with current Emotiva discount including a sub, prices are a wash:

I like the size of the Klipsch “surrounds”. I realize their size is a compromise but mounting and aiming ( and family acceptance factor ) is a plus with the RP-140d.  The Emotiva rears appear far more capable but much larger footprint.  

I don’t really have a brand bias - just want them to match.  Use case is 85% streaming / 10 % blu-ray / 5% music.  

Or should I just go Jamo for $300 because it will be much better than the sound bar anyway :-)

Klipsch vs Emotiva 5.x setup

Purchased this center channel as a replacement for a Klipsch RP-440C. Absolutely nothing was wrong with the 440C, just wanted a bigger center presence when I setup my new theater room. I’m definitely happy with the purchase, center dialogue and action is more hefty now, sure it might be a placebo, but I’m swallowing that pill and sticking to my ear’s belief.  Sound is the lovely Klipsch standard and mates well with the front, side and surround Klipsch RP-250Fs in my room

It's significantly more noticeable when you have a mismatched LCR than if you have mismatched surrounds. Do your best to match your brands, your tiers, and your materials used in the speakers

New Captain America 4 plot details from Disney+ day

Somewhat expensive, but wow, great sound! I'm upgrading from a home theater in a box system, just switching the center speaker to start. What a big difference it made! Now on the way are two Klipsch towers, to further improve the system. Yes, I DO recommend this speaker, to anyone putting a home theater system together.

 They create such a large soundstage with such deep, full and articulate bass that at one point it had me wondering if the subs were really off. In those 80s, I had no sign of ear fatigue, which was something I was mindful of because I had bought lesser eclipses in the past and had to return them because they were so bright. That's definitely not the case with these. So who are these for? They're made of an acoustically transparent mesh material and leave just a subtle hint of the copper-colored craziness lurking behind it. I've watched so many movies in the weeks and I've had these from action adventure movies like Ready Player One to Mad Max which have some amazing Dolby Atmos soundtracks to family flicks like Moana or The Incredibles 2 which also have great sound and the speakers were outstanding. They are absolutely great performers at a very affordable price considering what you get
