And what I mean by that is that the Kobo Libra H2O can read many file types, including EPUB, which is certainly the biggest selling point for me.

I side-loaded Librera Reader and Calibre Companion for my reading purposes. I use the simple E-ink Launcher as an "app drawer" of sorts. I still want to be able to access the Chinese apps quickly, and it's faster through that launcher than through Unlauncher. The little device is snappier than my much beefier Boox Note Air, so it's really a pleasure to use.

Unfortunately the actual act of reading on the device was (for me) inferior to every one of the Kobos I've owned. While I've had issued with inconsistent lighting across 2/5 Kobos I've had (the Aura One and Libra H2O having darker patches of the display) I would still use both more regularly than the Kindle.

I have had a Kindle and I have a Kobo Libra H2O (basically an older revision of the Libra 2). I would highly recommend the Kobo, especially if you are going to side load books. It's possible to do it on Kindle but you will have to convert the books to the proprietary Kindle format (kfx/azw3) using something like Calibre and then transfer it, while Kobo supports most ebook formats and it allows you to buy books from multiple stores (that use Adobe DRM), not just from Kobo, so the process is very easy, just drag and drop your books and you are good to go.
