 This one's twenty six hundred dollars. The next one up is the Specialized Stump Jumper alloy, and that one is 26.50 Do you run into similar components on both bikes? Is there one that stands out over the other? Um, it's hard to choose one over the other because you're going to run into pretty similar issues on both bikes. A nice trail bike like a Process 134, and a sweet hardtail to go with it. There’s no way I’m blowing all than money on a single bike, you just don’t get much for your money once you pass the ~$6k mark.

In opinion if you can afford it that's where I'd start for fun and comfort and general trail riding. Just get a trail bike like the process 134 or the fuel ex for example. Full suspension is going to be easier on your back and more fun through tech and chatter and it'll be easier to stay in control going faster. You'll be able to do more descending before fatigue sets in

Hello! Been lurking around this thread and finally decided to make an account and ask some questions about mountain bikes. I have always been interested in them but never got into them due to the sheer amount of bikes that are offered and the cost. Been riding a fixie for several years, but always talked about trail riding.

Recently a friend bought a gravel bike and we talked about how we always wanted to go to bike parks, so we'll be taking the plunge soon. Money is still a factor for me to really get into it, but I'm now able to put a little more into it.

Personally, I am looking into a hardtail cause I believe that full suspension is not something I'll need since I am a novice. I've noticed a wide range of categories which were confusing, but after reading the faq, it made a little more sense.

Is it a dumb idea to buy a mtb that's in the 2k range? Or would something like a GT Aggressor which I found on sale recently be a better buy? Is there a benefit to buying from a big brand or specialty company? 

I appreciate any feedback and hope to enjoy this sport with you all :)

Upgrading from a Specialized Rockhopper Comp.

This will be my first full suspension trail bike. I’m still very new to mountain biking (started roughly 4 months ago). I live in Southern California and I mostly ride the local trails. I enjoy riding flowy, somewhat technical trails and doing baby jumps! Hoping to hit Skypark or Snow Summit this summer as well. 

The debate I’m currently having is between a carbon frame (spectral/jeffsy) with SRAM components vs aluminum frame with Shimano components, which I’ve heard really great things about(meta tr). I’m slightly worried about the weight of the Meta TR as well.

Which FS trail bike? Budget range $2800-4k

They are a website that will do very in depth reviews and will also compare bikes. FWIW I was deciding on a bike too this past summer and here are some things I was going over while shopping. Due to availability I went with the Kona Process 134 trail bike. It scored a 9/10 on downhill, a 9/10 fun factor and a 7/10 on uphill

So i am in the market for a new bike and it has come down to the Trek Fule EX 5 or the YT Capra base. I know the price of the 2 are not the same but over all for the bikes what are your thoughts? Anyone with experience on the bikes. Thanks!

New bike

 The Kona was waaay more fun on all my local trails. It’s an extremely poppy and surprisingly stable bike.

I need a trail bike capable of going on long journeys on partly technical, partly flat trails on terrain with mostly small hills. I do sometimes seek out fun downhills a few kilometers away, but pedaling efficiency and xc capability are also something I dont want to compromise, as the traverse is mostly on flat ground. I also ride street pretty often, so a bike thats agile and playful would be preferred. My ideal price range is around 2,800 - 3,200 euro/dollars. My current bike is a 27.5+ trail hardtail with an 130mm air fork. It serves me decently, but when my local trails get really technical, Im having a hard time getting grip pedaling up rocky hills and the travel is a bit small for the trails. I think a bike with around 150mm travel could be pretty good, dont want one with much less travel than that. I have the Slash as an option even though I'm not sure how nimble it would be for street and the 170mm fork seems a bit too much. The Spectral seems like the best option for me, but I would still like some opinions. Havent specified whether the bike would be a 29er or 27.5, saving that decision for another time. My 2 last bikes have had Shimano Deore, so would like to try something different but that is only a small factor compared to these other ones. I'm not sure how many carbon bikes are avaivable at this price point, but im going for aluminum since I am not willing to pay the extra price for a slightly lighter and (potentially) better bike. Sorry for this almost becoming a book so gonna just post this now.

Choosing on a full-squish is hard

I am looking at getting my a new bike for both XC riding on my local trails and also more gnarly trails. At the moment I am riding on a older hard tail and can’t decide whether getting a full suspension bike is worth it if It will have low end components. My budget is about 2500 dollars. For that price I could get a hard tail instead with higher components. For my budget, I am worried that the full suspension bike id be getting would be lower quality but really am not sure. 

The bikes I am considering are the specialized stumpjumper alloy, specialized fuse, and canyon neuron 6. If anyone has any of these bikes or anything comparable or new to add please feel free to add your thoughts. Thank you.

Hey all, looking for some bike recommendations to be ready when its possible to buy new bikes!

I'm currently on a 2015 Trek Fuel ex7.

I live in Western Wyoming, in a very low population area, without many well developed trails.  I mainly ride trails and fire roads/blm 2 tracks etc, with a few yearly trips to Southern Utah, Western Co.  I also occasionally zip up to Jackson hole area to ride.

I'm looking for a bike that can be fun on small jumps and flat trails, I have no desire to ride anything that's ski run steep.

I dont care too much about wheel size, but I think I would prefer 27.5.  I'm also partial to alloy frames, I prefer a higher specced alloy frame vs a similar priced carbon.

$4k is top dollar.
