Hey y'all Mrs. Philip from Austin Trail Running Company. If you're like me and you're not a minimalist style runner, oftentimes it can be hard to find a shoe that has the qualities of both being a lightweight shoe, but also a shoe that can go a reasonable amount of distance and have decent protection underfoot. and that's why I Wanted to talk to y'all about the La Sportiva Captiva There's three things I really love about this shoe

 It's not a heavy shoe I Believe men's measurements were around ten point seven ounces. but for the feature set that you get a full-length Rock play an excellent secure upper and that coverage on the outsole. You get a lot of features for the weight and so it feels a lot lighter on your foot. Then the third thing I'd like to point out about it is again the protection of the shoe

It has a full length Rock plate beneath the outsole and so when you're running over real rocky terrain like what we have out here in the Hill Country of Texas you can run decent distances without feeling like you're getting pounded underfoot and poked and prodded with sharp rocks. For me, this would be a great shoe for half marathon distance, 25k distance, Twenty miles for some of y'all that have better form than I do and and feel better in smaller shoes

Preferably black, but looks don't really matter. These will be dedicated work boots I leave in the office. 



I'm in IT and occasionally spend my day crawling under desks on carpet.  It's ruining the toe caps of my shoes. 



I need ankle support.  If I'm going to be doing some sort of active work,  i usually wear 8 or 10 eye docs, but I'm not willing to demote any of those to full time work boots, and the toe wear on them is already  telling me they wouldn't last long. 



Fashion sense isn't important on these. I plan on leaving them at work for when I need them.  I just need ankle support and toes that won't wear out running on carpet.  Rather just go on and invest in a good pair now; I'll need them for another upcoming office move soon.

Women's work boot recommemdations

 So if you're familiar with any of the Salomon s mob range, it's a very similar material to that I don't know, might even be the same. Essentially, it's very high quality. It will probably wear down a bit quicker than other shoes, but that's because it's actually doing its job and it feels sticky and I can actually trust it when running fast downhill over wet, slippery rocks. The cushioning on the Captiva is really good too

The cushioning on the Captiva is really good too. The midsole has a what feels like a rock plate in there. It protects your feet from any sharp rocks or dirt out there

 Now what's interesting about the shoe is there is no traditional tongue. So to speak of, it's a one-piece construction and if you look here, so it goes from a traditional heel support here to a very thin elasticated piece of fabric. Which is really cool because this area doesn't generally need support on your feet. So I like the way they've reduced weight by doing that, it's very comfortable to use

 Mmm. The reason for this is a sporty. They go off their European sizes which is great because it means they have more iterations in sizes so you can get a more accurate fit if your bearing off your European size. So when that gets extrapolated across to the US sizing then the shoe comes out a little bit smaller

La Sportiva Kaptiva Review 2019

 I tried Lowa this round. So I will see how many years they last. The Swiss swear by La Sportiva for its resoling.

Discovered that I had $240 in REI dividends today, so my Salomon 4D 3 GTX and Darn Tough merino wool socks came out to just $9!!! Happy deal hunting everyone!

 La Sportiva is known to kind of fit a little bit of the narrower foot size range, and for me I would say I have average to narrow feet. I think that's why I've always really liked the La Sportiva line. For shoe size, I'm usually a 10 to 10 and a half, and a lot of people do step up an extra half size in the La Sportivas. For me, this is a 10 and a half

 I do like also on the toe box here. they do provide a nice rock guard here. This is awesome if you find yourself in that rocky train and you happen to kick a rock. gives you a little bit of protection for your toes

 Again, if you guys are looking for a shoe that does a lot of things very well, I think the Captiva checks that box. Just remember on the sizing. You may want to step up a half a size to even a full size depending on what socks you may be wearing with them. I appreciate you guys watching

 This is great lacing them up, nothing was really digging into the top of my foot. They also do have this really great sock that hugs the entire foot, so slipping these on without them even laced up. They are a nice snug fit and Cali can tell you I really like having anything from my gloves to my shoes be a really nice snug fit and I think that's why I really gravitated towards the Captiva. One thing I did find though, if I slip these shoes on and I find myself driving to the trailhead and maybe it's a longer drive and I'm just sitting around in these shoes, my feet do start to go a little bit numb because this sock provides such a nice tight fit

The Kaptiva Mountain Running Shoe by La Sportiva [Review]

I run in La Sportiva Kaptiva and I love the way they fit, especially on more technical sections of trail. I think, from the majority of comments, that La Sportiva is a great direction for more technical shoes, just finding the right fit is the kicker.

I am planning on buying some trail running shoes in the near future. I hike mainly peaks and a decent amount of those peaks require you to scramble at the top or to traverse a ridge. I was wondering which trail/hiking shoe would be best for this. A shoe that you can put a decent amount of miles in (I think I am averaging about 8-15 miles per hike) in a hike and at the top is good at scrambling. Probably like a 70 or 80% trail running shoe and a 20 or 30% scrambling shoe.

I read that the La Sportiva mutant and bushido (however, not good for longer distances), Soloman sense ride are good. Would the Saucony peregrines, Hoka speed goats, or the Altra lone peaks be good? What would you guys recommend? 

Also, would these shoes also be good for climbing the types of rocks in like valley of fire, or moab area?

Which trail runners to get that can handle some scrambling

Not shoes related, but just wondering what running pants the sub would recommend? 

I’ve found that using some smart wool socks has been fine for keeping my running shoe rotation going in the winter, and I have my top layering is sorted out, but I can’t quite find a pair of winter running pants I really like. 

Typically run in Nike Phenom knits with a pair of tight underneath if it’s really cold. Has anyone found a “must have” pair of bottoms for the coldest winter months?

Winter Running Pants - Canadian Winter Tier

If you want to buy, keep in mind that they run small and need to go up 1/2-1 EU size. They are sold in EU sizes even in US.

Thus far, I have been running long trail races which require mandatory kit with my old North Face 3L Gore Tex Pro.

I wanted something lighter and more packable, and went into an Arc store. Shakedry is off the table as these races sometimes involve a bit off bushwhacking + carrying a pack for hours. I ended up picking up a zeta fl, on the basis that Paclite plus is much improved over Paclite and that other customers loved running in zeta SL/FL, plus the price was good (for the UK).

This forum seems to think the opposite, and I’m now torn over whether to keep the piece. To anyone who has run/hard hiked in a Zeta FL (or Paclite plus generally)- how has it performed? Can it be worn over a t shirt/long sleeve base layer and run in for hours? Will it fall apart under a day pack?

Hey all! I am SO sick of bulky ski pants that serve one purpose taking up so much room in my bag. I do travel to ski - but I run really warm, I don't ski in the backcountry, and I can't help but think there has got to be a good (lined) pant that can hold up to skiing and winter hiking without making me feel like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Any suggestions?
