LG 27GN950 Review, Next-Gen 4K 144Hz Monitors Are Here

Creative professional. First time posting here.

 Bought it mostly for the UHD resolution as I do some image, video etc. but also game. While my aged 1080TI can't hit over 100fps in most recent games (Outriders for example), the image quality is still impressive. The noticeable tearing I used to see on my second monitor (LG OLED TV) is gone thanks to Gsync (presumably)

 And I know what you're thinking, haven't we heard this before? There are 4K 144Hz monitors a couple of years ago, once again, PC-centric, old news, get with the times. But no, actually, you'd be wrong on this one. Because you see, both the Acer Predator X27 and ROG PG27UQ did indeed have this very spec, but they were limited by the bandwidth of DisplayPort 1.4, which left their true refresh rate to 98Hz in HDR mode, whereas the LG uses DSC or Display Stream Compression

This is better than a lot of gaming monitors, but again we're paying a pretty hefty premium here

There's one more thing to consider, and that's that this monitor supports DSC, or Display Stream Compression, which is part of the DisplayPort 1

 The 27GN950-B is no exception to the IPS panel, with just over the advertised 1001 contrast ratio. This means that darker scenes can appear more grey than black. The monitor does have a local dimming feature, but unfortunately it barely affects the contrast ratio. Do note though, these settings are specific to our unit and it should not be copied, as calibration does vary between units
