So I have an LG BX and I find it plenty bright granted my TV is in a decently dark area. Also, video games don’t really stutter because they are never made at 24fps and I find the Trumotion feature set to 2 and 2 gets rid of stutter in movies without artifacting. Every TV has flaws. The question is whether or not those flaws are something you can live with. The stutter you get with some content can be mitigated with motion processing features, but that introduces some input lag and soap opera effect. For some, the cure is worse than the disease. Yes, you won’t get blooming with OLED, but it won’t get as bright, either. 

The LG CX is fantastic, but if you’re expecting the second coming, you’re likely going to be disappointed. For just $500 more, I’d pick the LG, but I don’t know what your sensitivity to any of it’s flaws is. Then again, I’d be coming from a 4K TV so old it doesn’t even have HDR, so </shrug>.

You could also look at the TCL Mini-led TVs. They have a TON more local dimming zones, so blooming is a fraction of what it is on the Sony panels.  Plus they're brighter than OLEDs, not to mention a lot less expensive. I think the 65in goes for $900. That being said, I have a 65 CX and it's fantastic. I don't notice any stuttering, and I have it in a fairly bright open room, and it's plenty bright for us. We typically don't watch much TV during the day anyway. Any movie watching happens at night.

Why don’t you go to a store and ask them to show you these two TVs with similar input? Best Buy? I got my CX from Costco and you just need to look at it to understand the picture quality. I was torn between Sony Bravia fandom in my head vs LG in front of me. Looking at the picture quality on display i knew what I wanted.

I bought both as well and ended up returning the Sony. The picture quality is amazing on the oled. I did like the android tv interface but I just ended up getting a chrome cast with android tv to use with my cx. I also thought hdr/Dolby vision looked better on the cx than the Sony. another thing that impressed me is the speaker of the cx. I didn’t have to use a sound bar compared to when using the Sony. Brightness issue isn’t an issue at all, I have two LG CX and they are fine. One is in a sunroom with three huge sliding glass doors that let in the sun all day. The other is in my master bedroom that also has 3 huge windows.  Unless you’re one of the weirdos that like to constantly run tests on their tv till the hate it,
you’ll love the tv.

Having been a plasma owner for years when Panasonic made the last plasma sets I waited years to find the right set to be my next TV. I ended up going OLED and would never go with anything else now until a better tech is invented.

Do you have the option to purchase the CX as well and compare them side by side at your home for a few days before your return deadline? I did this with the X900H and the CX for almost a full 90 days with Costco's return policy. They are both great TVs, and ultimately what sold it for me was watching a side by side of some of the most recent HDR releases on Netflix and Disney+. The quality improvement on the CX was significantly better in my view, and I made peace with spending the extra $900 (65" model).

As a side note, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I also discovered that my CX has the ability to play PS5/PS4 games in standard mode (versus game mode) with motion smoothing turned on offering a much crisper experience with hardly any screen tearing and no noticable input lag. It even seems to really smooth out 30fps games that otherwise looked to have a lot of stutter in game mode on both the CX and the X900H. Again, this comes down to personal preference, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the CX could do this (as the X900H suffered from significant input lag for anything outside of game mode).

I had c6 curved but now c8 and im never going back to led tv. Oled is just amazing. If you dont want stuttering or the 24fps shitty stutter just use motion settings. I have it set at 3-3 judder and blur. That helps for 24fps content. But on 60fps hq content motion settings dont do much but i leave it at 3-3 for everything. Only game mode i dont use motion settings.

And also. The user experience is superb on lg compared to android tvs. Only downside with lg is it does not have every format(usb content) or apps like on android.

Once you use an OLED TV, LCD's will never look the same. Maybe QLEDs will still look nice, though.

Return it and decide if you like the C1 more and can wait, or just go for CX. I'm waiting to see reviews for the '21 range from each manufacturer, they seem to all have some good improvements worth waiting for. I might steer back to the new Samsung, as I like how you can change the window size on the fly, or add multiple PIP sources on the side - that is long overdue.

I posted this in a different thread that was deleted, so I am reposting again here in case anyone is in the same situation and finds it helpful:

I was in this situation exactly a week ago: torn about whether to keep the 900H or exchange it for the CX. I kept going back and forth because the 900H has many positives, as you know, and I had invested so much time and energy trying to make it work out.

But I think the fact that I was struggling in the first place suggested that I was not entirely happy with my purchase. Something was always not quite right. I kept fiddling with settings, hoping that if I tweaked this or that it would make the problems go away. And sometimes it did. I got the MediaLight bias lights too and they definitely improved things.

But on Saturday I exchanged the 900H for the CX and I set it up on Tuesday. I felt a little heartsick as I was boxing up the old set and wondered if I had made the right choice. But then I turned the CX on and started using it and I have never looked back.

Now, I also did a size upgrade, from 65" to 77" and surely that has influenced my perception to a certain degree.

But there really is a noticeable difference in picture quality, and it was hard to understand what people meant by that until I saw it myself. It is not something you can easily quantify, and unfortunately it is harder to understand the differences fully in the store. I suppose the best analogy is to think of the difference between the images in a typical magazine and a high end glossy one. They both have clear, perfectly representative images, but one has a more refined quality about it. You can feel the difference.

Obviously, every TV has its issues. But I am content with my purchase in a way that I never quite was with the 900H. The CX might not be the perfect set for you, but if you are worrying about return dates, then that is probably instructive. I was carefully watching the return dates for the 900H too, but not with this one.

But I will say this: while the CX is an oled and therefore does not have blooming, white text will still appear to bleed sometimes into a black background. I think that is just how our eyes work! So if blooming is really a concern for you it could be that no amount of mitigation can 100% erase the problem. I thought the blooming on the 900H was actually not bad at all.

I have the 900E and the C9. Your post pretty much covered everything. The C9 has noticeably dimmer HDR brightness and it takes a while to grow accustomed to the “choppiness” with low framerates. However, the complete lack of blooming around bright objects is stunning.

Basically, is it worth the money? If you have the money to spare and will use the TV *a lot*, then I would suggest it.

I was honestly slightly disappointed in my OLED at first, due to the relatively dim HDR (the 900E was quite literally blinding at times when fire and explosions occurred in Uncharted 4). However, I still have the 900E in my basement for my daughter’s gaming setup and now I can easily see that the overall image quality is much better on the OLED.

I think the biggest issue is I'm assuming most places you're looking at an OLED is on a brightly lit showroom floor next to a Samsung or other flagship.  In a bright room most people will typically prefer the brighter TV.  If you're watching it at night with little to no ambient light the difference does shift towards an OLED.

The high contrast almost exhibits a 3D effect to me personally.  But this is also something I notice even on a sales floor, so it might not be the same.  As for stutter.  I really don't notice much.  Only times I've noticed it is when I had my UHD player accidentally outputting at 60Hz.  If I output at 24hz the TV handles it and it's perfect.  24 is a multiple of 120 so there is no need for an odd pull down.

Now camera movement isn't always perfect, but that's not on the TV.  Sony is suppose to have better motion processing, but I usually have that off.  Now for HDR, the image really pops.  I also believe the CX actually has higher peak luminance when compared to the X900H.  OLED just dim considerably when there is a bright object taking up more than 50%, but this is incredibly rare.  I usually have more of a brightness issue with SDR in a bright room than HDR, but I switch gamma to 1.9 and I am okay then.

My uses are typically I game on my CX and watch blu rays on it.  Samsung is usually for cable viewing during the day.  If I watch them both at night, the CX (separate rooms and eyes given a readjustment period) actually appears brighter because of the contrast.  I usually can't handle the CX at 100.  When they have certain bright highlights I almost need to cover my eyes.  I also have mediabias light for my Samsung like you have for your Sony.

If I watch them both at night, the CX (separate rooms and eyes given a readjustment period) actually appears brighter because of the contrast.  I usually can&#39;t handle the CX at 100.  When they have certain bright highlights I almost need to cover my eyes.  I also have mediabias light for my Samsung like you have for your Sony.</p>

Just want to say thanks for posting this. Literally had this exact question for the last two weeks in deciding which of these TVs to pair with my Ps5. Upgrading from a mid tier Vizio from a few years ago so I'm sure either TV would be an upgrade for me. All the responses have been very helpful. I Will probably go with the cx 65', just need to figure out the absolute best deal now. Costco has them going on sale tomorrow.

I was just in the same situation as you! I recently bought a PS5 and bought the x900h around the same time. I was really turned off by the blurred 4k/120hz issue (noticeable in Call of Duty performance mode) and how long it’s taking Sony to implement VRR and ALLM on the tv. Otherwise it’s a solid TV. So a couple of weeks ago I bought the CX and tested it out before deciding if I would return the x900h. Some thoughts:

- CX does not get as bright as the x900h. That’s just a fact of OLEDs right now comped to LED/LCD TVs. I have a bright living room with large windows and I don’t find any issues with the dimness from the OLED compared to the Sony. One thing I do not like about the x900h is it’s poor reflection handling, especially during the day time. The CX handles this much better.

- The latest Android OS is BETTER than WebOS. It’s smoother, has more apps, and easier to navigate IMO. I also am not the biggest fan of the Magic remote for the CX. I may be in the minority here, but I like the long, traditional remote of the x900h.

- Other than that, the CX is better in every way, especially if you are a gamer. The colors pop in movies and games more due to the much better contrast with dark colors. Games just look better on the CX compared to the x900h. Also it has a working VRR and ALLM (a must if you own a XSX or are a PC gamer).

So I decided to keep the CX and return the Sony x900h. No regrets at all. I would say go with the CX of you can pony up the extra cash and return the x900h.

The 900 isn’t getting features that were promised by Sony anymore. It’s a pretty mediocre TV, the x950h blows it away. Brightness is low, viewing angles are low. FWIW I bought an x950h and while I don’t regret it, my next tv upstairs will be an OLED.

I'm aware that I may get biased results from an OLED specific sub, but if anyone has experience with both of these sets, I would greatly appreciate your input. 

I've owned the 55" X900H for months, so I've gotten quite familiar with its strengths and weaknesses. I think it's a great TV, but if I can spend a little extra and get a lot in return, I'm happy to do that.

There's one thing that I don't particularly like about the X900H:

* **Blooming**. If you've got white text or a bright logo on a black background, this TV will exhibit blooming. I am the type to fiddle with settings, and I've identified all the ways to mitigate blooming. You can do a lot to this effect, but you'll never completely get rid of it, in my experience. I have invested in MediaLight bias lighting, and it helps, but I'm not using the lighting every time I use the TV, and I want the freedom to use it how I choose. I thought I'd get used to the blooming with this set, but a few months in, it's still glaringly obvious to me.

That's pretty much it. I've ran into an issue involving the PS5 in which the X900H doesn't output sound, but I haven't been able to isolate this to the TV or the PS5 independently of each other, so I can't really count it as an issue with the TV and not the PS5 or vice versa. For reference I'm using optical out from the TV to an older audio receiver (no ARC) and a pair of stereo speakers. I'm happy with this audio setup, have used it for years, and don't have a strong desire to upgrade it.

I could make a list of the things that I like about the X900H, but for the sake of brevity, lets just assume that I like every other aspect of the TV.

This brings me to the point. I like it. I'm not earth-shatteringly 100% blown away by the thing. I don't think it's god's gift to human eyeballs. But when I read reviews of the LG CX, I see phrases like "absolutely stunning", "night and day", and "you'll never go back to LED". Most of these accounts never seem to convey what exactly it is that makes the picture quality so much better than an LED set, but I would like to know for myself.

I've also gathered that the LG CX has it's own downsides. There are a few in particular that are concerning to me:

* **Stutter** with 24p and sometimes even 30p content. This is something that I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to get used to. I play a fair amount of video games, but I also watch a fair amount of movies. I don't want to be jarred back into reality by stuttering frames in every panning shot. If it's a problem with 30p content as well, it's a deal breaker. I get that 60fps is slowly becoming the standard in console gaming, but I like to revisit older games too, and many of them will probably always run at 30.
* **Brightness.** I've read that the LG CX doesn't get as bright as the X900H, and some state that it's a bit too dark with HDR content. I don't know how to compare nits and won't pretend to, but I will say that the X900H is a comfortable brightness for me anywhere between 40 and max, depending on the content. This may not be the best for color accuracy, etc... But that's how I like it.

I'm not concerned with burn-in. That's not a factor to me.

I will be sticking with 55" either way, so screen size isn't a point of consideration.

Basically, it's 500 bucks more for the OLED. If it's that much of a night and day difference, I'll return the Sony and drop the extra cash for the better experience.

I have a week left to return my Sony X900H (X90H) for an LG CX, and I'm torn.

Buying this TV was a mistake. It’s really slow and takes forever to change channels or input sources. It also doesn’t actually work well with the HomeKit features you’re probably buying this for. It’s super janky, expensive and you have to restrict it from the internet or it allows LG and others to monitor you 24/7
