 But most of the time I run them wide open. If you get decent heads and decent wires and slap them on one of these things, and it sounds bad, it's not the drum, dude. It's you. It's either the way you're playing or you don't know how to tune drums because there's no reason why this drum should sound bad

I'm looking for a snare

Old Ludwig Acrolite snare drums! They average $250-300 and hold their own/sound better in some cases than $800-900 snares that have been designed to pay homage to them.

What drum gear has surprised you the most? I mean we all know the high end stuff that sounds amazing, but what have you owned/borrowed/heard that didn't cost a lot but sounded good? I will start you with 2 of mine.....

Finished my Ludwig Acrolite build! I got a free 70s Acrolite shell from a buddy. I initially tried to paint it -- didn't come out great. So I stripped all the paint, sanded down the metal to give it a brushed look, stained some hoops, and added some modern hardware. I think it came out pretty good!

Check out heartbeat cymbals. Get a ludwig acrolite. Use the drums you have and learn how to tune them well.

We have a mic'd set up with a full cage and we are livestreaming and recording our sets. Probably looking for a modern worship (Bethel, if you will) sound. We don't have an unlimited budget, obviously, but it sounds like we're going for high end gear!

Off the top of my head, something like the Ludwig Black Beauty snare, DW Custom kit, Zildjian K Custom worship pack, and some form of a drum rack to clean up the kit area for all the mics/cables could be good. 

I want to have a good kit rec to give to the worship director! Maybe I should lean towards something a little cheaper/used. Any thoughts or ideas you would recommend?

Worship Drums Recommendation

You just can’t go wrong with an acrolite or supraphonic which both use the same aluminum shell. Also the supraphonic is the #1 most recorded snare ever.

Another snare in the collection is always nice for variety and for backup, especially if you’re gigging or recording. I suggest a used Supra or Acrolite.
