Getting that breathy sound back

The weakest link is probably the source material followed by the amps in the receiver. I just picked up a Marantz NR1711 mainly to use as an HDMI switcher and HDMI audio decoder for my McIntosh C47 and C302. As far as the DACs in the NR1711 go I can't really hear a difference between the Marantz and the C47. The amps however were a completely different story.

Like the size. Hate the sound.

Size is good, much better than most receivers. Very good picture quality. There are several problems though. 1. It does not play nice with Directv with HDMI-CEC. No audio if trying to use this with Directv and pass through. Ultimately, had to use optical cable defeating my second reason for replacin...

I’ve loved them for years, and it’s time for a new receiver… one that’s more modern. I picked up a Marantz refurb NR1711 for just under $700 shipped with a 3 year warranty and I’m looking forward to getting a decent center channel and FINALLY getting to run HDMI signals for the audio improvements, and the LFE channels from the receiver to the 200w powered subs on each of the towers.

NR1711

Recomend the seller recomend wires, terminals and speakers set. The NR1711 sound output is moderate. Recommend higher output like 100W per speaker. Video and audio connections are adequate. I wish it had RCA input connections RCA TO HDMI adapter where required for analog to digital conversion. Sold ...

Looking for help to get the most out of my setup

I think it’s the best option available unless you are looking to use a service like Plex to stream your own stored content (in which case the Shield is likely the best option). A new receiver (something like the NR1711) will allow you to keep the TV on one fixed input and switching sources via the receiver. That may be something to get used to.

Can probably do better for the money

Pros - Excellent sound quality, great musical detailing and good dialogue separation in movies. Also looks better aesthetically than most home theatre recievers. Ok Product

Low quality plastic case and buttons. For the price case quality should be better. On screen installation directions are very good. Receiver was boxed well.
