 I paid, in the summer of 2018, $4.99 in Academy Sports, I had to assemble it myself, it was on sale. The original price was, I believe $6.99, so I got a pretty good deal on it

Marcy Smith Cage Workout Machine Review

 Overall I'm mostly happy with it though.  3) The sliding weight rack for the cable system does not have any roller bearings of any sort so the weight has to be even on either side of the bar or it will twist and be useless. That is actually fairly annoying as an example, I want to do 55lbs curls, I put a 45lbs plate on one side and a 10lbs weight on the other and it won't work right so instead of using two plates I have to put a 25lbs plate and 2.5lbs plate on each side

  Update:  6 months into having the home gym I have been happy with my purchase overall, I always did enjoy weight lifting but could never find the time to go to the gym working long hours everyday so having this at home is perfect since I don't have to go anywhere to workout. I've been lifting consistently 4 days a week for 6 months now and putting this machine to the test durability wise and mechanically and I've learned some more about the pro's and con's of this machine.  Pro's:  In 6 months of lifting it had been my objective to bulk so I've been steadily adding more and more weight to my workouts and have not lost that much myself, just ten pounds. I'm currently 275, I bench 245lbs for my last set of ten on standard bench press, I deadlift 365lbs, I squat 330lbs so overall you can see I have put A LOT of strain on this machine and it has met my requirements

  Some of the machine parts are a safety hazard I.E. the leg / preacher curl attachment to the bench. You cannot tighten the cap screws all the way, you have to leave them loose enough that they do not bind against the bench and create problems with the range of motion but they do not include any lock tite with the machine

 The plastic they send with the machine is constantly being torn and cut up by the weights and I know eventually it'll cut all the way through or break. Plus if you tighten the set screw enough so the plastic won't slide then it bows the plastic into an egg shape and makes it difficult to put on and take off the weights.  Some of the machine parts are a safety hazard I.E

 It is crucial to keep things organized and be sure to reference the page that outlines each step and in turn flip back and forth to the page(s) where they show each part and its identifying number. This will help you ensure that you re using the right parts for any specific step.  There are three (3) boxes in all. I would recommend opening boxes 1 of 3 and 2 of 3 first as those two contain all of the parts for the smith machine

 Box 3 of 3 is for the bench only so leave that one until you finish the smith machine. If you have the room, use a staging area where you can lay out all of the parts for the smith machine and pair up any parts where they are identical as you have to build two sides to the smith machine. Be sure not to only hand tighten the bolts until the directions say otherwise. If you do tighten the bolts to soon, it will make it difficult to align pieces in the steps that follow

The most complex part of building the smith machine is assembling the cable system. You will really need to take your time and follow those steps very carefully

  ATTACHMENTS: The pulley attachments are all really nice and good quality.  WEIGHT HOLDERS: The weight holder on the side of the cage are great for storing weights when not in use. They are steel bars and during assembly, you have to mount plastic sleeves over them in order to mount the Olympic weight plates. All of the bars have these "sleeves" (smith, pulley weight holder, etc) so this unit could be used with standard weights also

Organized assembly is a MUST. Solid if built properly. Pulley system needs improvement.

 Keep 10lbs or more on the pulley system at all times to keep tension on the cables thus keeping them in the grooves. I took this one step further and adjusted the weight slide to not sit, it always is hanging just off the resting position. This has worked VERY well. I have 2 teenagers so I can't expect this to always be followed but they usually do

 Not going to win any awards here. It's contoured and I promise you, it is not one size fits all. I'm on the short side of the male spectrum at 5'6". The bench is not made for me

 leg curls doesn't work for me on this bench, the length of the lever and the angle of pull are wrong for my body anyhow (probably will be for you too unless you were the one person they were using as the model to design this gym). Be careful tightening any of the plastic components. I wasn't in the room when my son started this and he over tightened some plastics and caused some problems. Lessons learned, wisdom gained

Everything I Expected

 I basically sit on the bench and do a seated cable fly curl.  Another good recommendation I saw and did was buy a length of chain and carabineers clips, and I connected it to the two top pulleys. Then I used a carabineer clip in the middle and connected the pull down bar and I had a more stable pull down machine. It distributed the weight across two pulleys instead of clipping directly into one pulley

 I bought this unit for my wife and I. I am about 8 inches taller than her. I find that the position for most of the moving parts isn't well suited for a person of my size. Since I cannot adjust the height of the seat or the position of moving parts, my range of movements is restricted at times

Decent machine

 And YES, it is designed to us a free-weights barbell as well as the attached slider-bar intrinsic to the machine. I've been using free weights and machines for nearly five decades; this is my favorite. By far. This is an outstanding machine for home

 My one regret is price: I bought it at $999; Amazon is currently offering it for $699. Truth is, I'd argue that it's a good value at $1,500.  --Construction criticism. I don't know why the manufacturer curved the lower-back end of the bench
