 In fact, it's good. If you ask me a little too much friction, but maybe that goes away with time over here it has the pre-wash little spot here, soap goes in there, you push it to close it and then a rinse aid section as well. Also, we have some dishes in here: here's the pullout, it's what it's interesting, because the doors has a lot of friction to open, but the port out like is super easy to glide in and out almost too much, because when I want to roll it back in You can kind of see it kind of hits it hard, but I guess you'd have to be gentle, so it holds a decent amount, a little less than my old dishwasher, because these pegs are further from each other. But you could argue that that might get you a better wash as well

 Now, if you're going to buy a product - and you want to get good service - and you want it to last - do not buy anything from the Whirlpool Corporation. Not only doesn't it last, they give you a runaround, they give you a hard time. They pretend that that the CEO of the company and you're gon na be not be able to use your appliance for at least three months right, which is ridiculous. They should have just got us a new one, it would have been far cheaper

My washer went out this year and my research led me to a Maytag Commercial washer.  It seems very robust, top load, agitator, fills with water…not many bells and whistles - knobs and lights.   It gets the job done pretty good.   Remind me in about 10 years when I can actually confirm

  Wanted Speed Queen because of the Reddit love, but I heard the newer ones aren’t nearly as good unless you go with the higher options.  I had an early 90s whirlpool but it finally conked.  Was just a transmission, but I needed something quicker than I could replace it.  Also, was not doing the best job washing

Obviously appliance reliability is highly subjective with most brands being both good and horribly bad depending on things like year, place of manufacture, features, etc.

Since online reviews tend to be ppl w/ negative experiences I’m hoping a reddit pole might provide a more broad idea of reliability! 

In ur PERSONAL experience of buying home appliances:

2. How long have you owned it + what kind of usage does it receive (heavy, regular, infrequent)?

3. If repairs have been done how was cost and availability of parts/assistance (or how helpful was the manufacturer in solving ur issue)?

We bought a 22 year old house that came with a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer that are probably almost as old as the house. While the machines still work fine, I'd like to replace them before they completely die. Also, the front loading washer has some gross soap/lint build up under the rim of the door seal (not on the door, but on the machine), that likely hasn't been cleaned in ~20 years and seriously grosses me out. 

Any recommendations for good new machines to buy? I'm open to front loaders, top loaders, and agitator machines. Units need to be side by side, not stacked, and dryer currently has a gas hookup, though we can ask out electrician about installing an electric one. Budget isn't too much of a concern, but would prefer to stay under about $2k total for both machines. If a really good machine is higher though, we'd definitely consider it.

Washer/dryer recommendations?

It does a nice job cleaning the dishes!

However, it seems like everyone here hates top loaders without the agitators so I guess that leads me to front load washers. I don’t mind the maintenance of a front loader, I can keep the door open and/or run the maintenance cycle every once in a while, I just want to make sure it won’t break down in a year. Any suggestions?

Hey all, so the research I’ve been doing says that the best washer seems to be a mechanical speed queen or Maytag. However, my partner and I have had nothing but trouble with agitators in terms of damage to our clothes. We don’t have kids, so we don’t have super frequent stains. 

Long lasting washer that doesn’t have an agitator?

 I recommend to save up and buy a real dishwasher, or at least a brand that will continue to work after the 1-year warranty expires. The "10 YEAR Limited Parts Warranty" label that I see every time I look at the dishwasher mocks me, and I despise Maytag. This was my first and last Maytag appliance.  Update: On October 27, 2021, this is what Laura P

 The control panel is the most expensive part of the dishwasher, it is not covered by the 10 year parts warranty, and it was evidently not designed or built for long-term survivability. It can't be repaired because its design is proprietary. Since this two-year old dishwasher model is now obsolete (no doubt because it was poorly designed), so is the control panel!

 I was going to ask whether they are able to get repair parts that the Maytag factory authorized repair service cannot get! I doubt very much that the parts are available. Maytag is trying to squeeze more money out of me for a dishwasher that they know very well cannot be repaired unless and until the control panel becomes available, which may be never.  Too bad Virginia does not have a "right to repair" law for consumer products, which would compel the manufacturer to make the parts available for a reasonable number of years.  Since my recent contacts with Maytag, I have just begun receiving emails from Maytag's marketing department offering to sell me a Maytag Service Plan for my Maytag dishwasher through AIG WarrantyGuard, Inc. Maytag is "not affiliated" with AIG, but the email is from Maytag! I tried calling the phone number for "Questions" about the warranty service plan, but after a 10 minute hold, the call is terminated. This happened 3 times in a row
