 I gave this opener 4 stars because of a couple deficiencies I see in the product that hopefully will be remedied in the near future.  Pros: The Meross Smart garage door opener is easy to set up and connect to your Wi-Fi.  The app is easy to use.  It will connect to virtually any garage door opener even if the opener is listed in the Meross incompatibility list

 The amount was minimal but the principal of it really bothered me. The manufacturer claimed they only charged the monthly fee to keep the product price down. However most other smart garage remotes cost about the same amount and include Google or Alexa compatibility free of charge. I had other Meross products and liked them so I looked into Meross

 I did some testing and found that it worked exactly the same as hooking it directly to a remote. This made it easy because I could place the Merros Smart GDO right next to the wall button where it was easy to service and also made it easier for me to locate the sensor in a place where it would work well with my garage door. I have a Liftmaster garage door opener that is only compatible with 1 smart controller (the MyQ Smart Remote). Problem is, the manufacturer charges a monthly fee to allow Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa compatibility. The amount was minimal but the principal of it really bothered me.  you say "Hey Google, Open Sesame") and an ACTION (Meross: Open Garage Door). So you set up 1 applet to open, and another to close. It's important that the phrase uses a different name for the garage door than the one you've registered in the Google Home app, otherwise google gets confused and still asks for a pin. So, if you've called it "Garage Door" in Google Home, then don't make the trigger phrases "Open Garage Door" and "Close Garage Door", simply use "Open Sesame" and "Close Sesame" or anything else that's not "Garage Door"

 For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get back to the user preferences page in the Meross iPhone app. I might have to delete the device and re-add it in the app, but that really shouldn't be necessary.  2. At my previous home, I installed a Nexx smart garage door opener

 I really liked that feature. This Meross smart garage door opener does not natively support such a feature. However, I had read some online postings claiming that you could use IFTTT to achieve the same behavior. Unfortunately, I have not been able to replicate this function with IFTTT

I installed this on my Chamberlain garage door opener about five months ago. Installation and set-up were a snap. Followed the instructions, and all went well. I have only two gripes:  1

Pretty good, but could be better

I replaced our MyQ system from Chamberlain with two of these and haven’t looked back. Our older chains door opened I was sure wouldn’t work (15 years old) but it worked right out of the box. The other belt driven unit needed an adapter that Meross support rapidly sent in the mail and then it worked Immediately as well.  Alexa integration was easy to set up as well and uses a security pin to prevent nefarious openings

A little tricky but easy to use

Device was simple to install and is working great so far. The app instructions are not clear on the few items it covers and nonexistent on most things. I already went through that setup with a remote outlet I bought earlier so adding the door opener was very simple.

We have a camera that shows our garage door but if we leave and don't check it, we have no way to close it if we left it open. This provides peace of mind.

 I just followed that and put the new wire under the plastic clips holding the existing wire. In my case, I opted to attach the sensor using the included adhesive pads to the top of the plastic piece that slides along the underside of the rail (the emergency release lever part). This is what the guy did in the Youtube video. It was a shorter run and easier than attaching the sensor on the door, while also serving the same purpose

 This was probably to longest part since I had to run the cable across the rail to the door itself. There should already be some wire running across this rail to one of the control levers that stops the door when it's closed. I just followed that and put the new wire under the plastic clips holding the existing wire.   They give you a little piece of wire that you can use to connect between two contacts on your garage door in order to test if the device is compatible with your opener. In my case, the terminals I needed to test had a number 1 and 2 next to them (see attached picture). If you would like to test before you decide to order, you can just use your own wire, or take a pair of pliers and bridge the connection. If your garage door opens/closes when you touch it to both of the terminals, then the Meross device will work

 There were already a couple of wires attached to terminals, so fitting the control cable was a major chore that was made worse by my shivering cold hand trying to get the screw driver in the screw slot (hey, Meross, put on wire spade connectors!). Note that as long as the existing wire connections are maintained, all the other devices that control the door opener (wireless remote, door buttons, etc.) are fully functional. Once that onerous task was completed, the rest of the installation was reasonably fast

 It works as advertised (so far, anyway; I've only been using it for a few days). Meross seems to have its act together (I have six of their smart plugs that have worked wonderfully over the past year). Their product pricing, at least through Amazon, is highly competitive and the quality seems excellent. I'm hoping this garage door opener holds up

 It's all done for you. The strangest thing is that the unit is now powered by USB (don't worry, it comes with an AC adapter plug).  The first thing you should do before venturing into the garage is to get the unit connected to your network using the Meross app and then linking it to the Alexa voice assistant, if that's what you use (more about Alexa below).  Installation was difficult, but that is not the fault of Meross

It works! Alexa integration is a bit kludgy.
