The Sculpt Comfort Mouse is a bit too PC-focused in just one respect, given that the Windows button is not programmable with Macs. Additionally, the Windows button didn't respond consistently when used as a touchpad. We loved the idea of a button that doubles as a touchpad but found it to be a setback in our features metric, given its variable functionality. You'll be happiest with the Arc if you are a PC-user wanting four-way scrolling and a thumb touchpad.  

The Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Mouse is an option worthy of your consideration, particularly if you are a PC user. This product is well-built with some hidden functionality, including the windows button on the thumb, which doubles as a programmable button and a touchpad scroller. The scroller can navigate the page four directions and offered a consistent connection that held its own in the review's spectrum. 
The Sculpt Comfort Mouse has a top sheet of plastic that we found quite uninspiring. When putting batteries into the Sculpt, we nearly broke the top of the mouse while removing it to expose the battery compartment. The top sheet is made of an incredibly thin piece of plastic that was unsettling to bend as it was removed and reinstalled. Outside of this construction concern, the Sculpt is a great option for a PC user looking for advanced functionality in an otherwise simple design.

Hello!

I'm in need of a mech keyboard recommendation, to replace my well worn Microsoft Sculpt. When I started my job 7 years ago, I was issued an Apple Keyboard, it was tiny and within a few days my hand was cramping and achy. I don't have any pre-existing conditions, so I just chalked it up to being a tiny keyboard. My IT department gave me a Microsoft Sculpt and I immediately fell in love. The hand pain went away and I never looked back.

Over the last couple of months it's been having connectivity issues, missing keystrokes, or just not responding. 

I picked up a cheap hot swap mech keyboard from Amazon for about $100 and have been enjoying playing with switches and keycaps. The problem however, is that my left hand is starting to ache and hurt. Getting some numbness in my pinky and ring finger, and sometimes up my forearm. I am left handed, and approaching 40. I wouldn't be surprised if I have the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome. But nothing has been officially diagnosed.

My keyboard is for office / general use. I'm not really a PC gamer these days. I do play Dungeons and Dragons digitally, and have other hobbies online. So this keyboard would get a LOT of use.

- I would love to find something that emulates the MS Sculpt in design and function.
- For work I require arrow keys and Home, end, PGup, PGdn. 
- this does run on a Mac, so Mac keys would be awesome. However I can always reprogram like I did with the MS Sculpt.
- I do not require function keys
- I believe I'll need a wrist rest, similar to the MS Sculpt
- Would prefer a "built" option, even if it costs extra. It's been a long time since I've soldered, and not sure I want to deal with that right now.
- Hot Swap would be nice, I do enjoy playing around with switches.

I don't really have a budget. I'll use this keyboard 7-8 hours a day for my job, and then for any household computing needs. I'm willing to invest.

I'm located in Virginia, US. 

Sorry I kept referencing the sculpt, it's my only ergo I've used, so it's the only reference point I have. Lol

Layout in mind: Split, that's all I know for sure. I don't really know what's out there, so open for suggestions.

Use case: Mostly gaming, with some typing for messaging, Google docs, etc. I'm a big guy with broad shoulders and large hands, so I definitely want a split kb  to be able to keep my hands shoulder width. Rn I'm mostly between the Kinesis Freestyle Edge ($200) or the Ergodox EZ ($300-$360) I'm not sure about the stacked vs staggered layout and the pros/cons of each. More generally, I'm not clear on whether it's worth it to spend the extra for the Ergodox. If there's a big difference, I'm willing to do it, but it's a lot for me to spend on keyboard. I also don't know if I should be paying extra for the wing wrist rests/tenting kit. My gut says I'd probably at least get that. Curious to hear any feedback for either of those two keyboards! 

Budget: can spend up the $360 for the ergodox ez with add ons, but looking for confirmation on whether or not that's worth the cost compared to the $200 kinesis or some other option.

* Left ring/middle finger can sometimes get sore after long gaming grinds.
* Main keyboard is a Logitech G19. I've had a razer orbweaver before but it felt awkward and never really used it much.
* From my research so far I think I'm leaning towards a sofle. Corne boards are what got me interested but I need the number row and I like the ability for rotary encoders. I'd like to put a joystick on the left half and a music volume rotary on the right half. The placement of oleds on these boards is a good position to replace the screen on my G19 that I use as a performance monitor. Case/switch combo seems to be where I am the most stuck. Choc switches are a new concept to me but they seem to be the shortest form factor for key presses. Combined with some acrylic/3d printed casing I think those would be best if wrist rest/tents can be avoided.

* USA, I'd like to keep it under $200 but will pay for what I need realistically. I can solder and print/cut a case. Will probably look into making a custom TRRS cable sometime. Don't mind ordering parts internationally if it will save on costs. RGB might be nice after I decide on a case configuration/color scheme.

That's about all I have so far. Corne is lacking keys and ergodox seems too big and doesn't support rotary encoders I think. A shorter board bottom to top would be ideal so I'm open to suggestions. I've never owned a mech keyboard besides the orbweaver so the switches I'm a little lost on. If I had to choose right now I'd probably just go with whatever was quietest.

Hiya! Thanks in advance for your advice.

Pre-existing conditions: Systemic hypermobility, though only a little in the fingers. My fingers start hurting pretty quickly without my finger splints. Depending on the day, I can get arm pain in any of the muscles in the forearm. (I'm already in PT) Also, my thumbs are absolute trash. They get tired very quickly.

Current Keyboard: Razer Ornata. I've used boards with MX Reds and Blues, but I think they're too... deep? 

Layout in mind: Willing to try most things. I assume that columnar stagger would be better?

Use case: I'm a wannabe writer and gamer. Though I've been unable to game because it hurts to hold buttons down.

Budget: I'd prefer as low as possible, but understand that these get expensive.

Additional Comments: I'd like to have hotswap sockets, just in case I don't get the right switches at first. I've been looking at the moonlander, but was hoping I might get away with something cheaper. Also the wrist rests don't look too comfy. Building my own might be difficult, for several reasons, but I'll do it if it's the best choice.

Pre-existing conditions: Systemic hypermobility, though only a little in the fingers. My fingers start hurting pretty quickly without my finger splints. Depending on the day, I can get arm pain in any of the muscles in the forearm. (I&#39;m already in PT) Also, my thumbs are absolute trash. They get tired very quickly.

Current Keyboard: Razer Ornata. I&#39;ve used boards with MX Reds and Blues, but I think they&#39;re too... deep? 

Layout in mind: Willing to try most things. I assume that columnar stagger would be better?

Use case: I&#39;m a wannabe writer and gamer. Though I&#39;ve been unable to game because it hurts to hold buttons down.

Budget: I&#39;d prefer as low as possible, but understand that these get expensive.

Additional Comments: I&#39;d like to have hotswap sockets, just in case I don&#39;t get the right switches at first. I&#39;ve been looking at the moonlander, but was hoping I might get away with something cheaper. Also the wrist rests don&#39;t look too comfy. Building my own might be difficult, for several reasons, but I&#39;ll do it if it&#39;s the best choice.

It saved me. I like it a lot, but some of the keys are starting to fail, so I think it's time to upgrade myself. I still get pains in my arms, shoulders and wrists from time to time.

Layout / form in mind: I'm thinking of a split keyboard with tenting possibilities, possibly would like to switch to columnar layout, and I really want to start using thumb clusters for keys I use frequently (such as \\ ) and for macros. Something that fits nicely with wrist pads would be nice. Currently looking at ErgoDox variations, Iris, Lily58. Would love to understand the differences. Still considering whether I'm up to a DIY project or not, so feel free to suggest both DIY and pre-built.

Use case: Mainly writing math, using LyX or plain LaTeX. I use LyX's shortcuts extensively and it would be nice to make them more efficient using thumb keys.

Budget and/or location: I live in Israel, so need something that can be shipped here (I was disappointed to discover that ZSA don't send here because of very high costumes/courier fees) and that works well with Hebrew (is that an issue or would any keyboard be fine?). I'd prefer something in less than 200$ overall, but that's not a dealbreaker. If it can split into <75$ pieces to avoid VAT it would be nice as well :)

Finally: nice colors and aesthetics would be a great bonus!

- Most of the issues are on my mouse hand (right) but some flare-ups happen on my other hand.

**current keyboard**: 

- Ducky One 2 w/ Silvers. 

**layout/form**: 

- Looking for a smaller split layout kb w/ tenting. Usage of layers appeals to me, with maybe a rotary encoder for fun. 

- I've been eyeing the Dactyl Manuform 4x6 the most, with considerations towards the Corne - the Corne doesn't look as comfortable to use when tented however. 

**use case**: 

- Primarily gaming & coding. Approximately 10 hours a day.

- Gaming-wise I'm a bit anxious about 1u Shift, Space, & Ctrl keys, but I'm willing to give it a try.

- Coding-wise, I'm a vim user so less need for 40 different modifier keys. I don't forsee any issues with vim navigation on a smaller kb.

**budget**: 

- Approximately 200 USD, lightly flexible if I'm missing out on something good.

These keyboards look like everything I would want, but they look quite expensive so I'd like to find if there's cheaper alternatives out there, especially as I'm in europe so I will probably have to spend more in import fees too. What's important to me is an orthogonal layout, and a kinda full size keyboard (I need at least the number row and ctrl/alt row, I don't mind no function row as long as it's easily emulated as I use them semi regularly. I don't care about RGB lights.

I type in Dvorak, I'm interested in a split orthogonal keyboard where the two halves can be moved around, linked by a cable.
I'd rather have a pre built keyboard, but I'm not afraid of building it myself if the instructions are solid, and it makes it quite cheaper. I'd have to buy the tools though as I have nothing at home, not even a screwdriver.
I really like the thumb part of ergo keyboards, especially if it enables me to stop reaching around for the CTRL key with the pinky

Lots of coding and writing in terminals, using keybinds for navigating linux stuff, casual writing, and some gaming too, notably Clone Hero (which would benefit a lot from being able to press at least 5 to 7 keys at the same time, in the same row)

# budget and/or location, if applicable.

I'm in Europe in the Nordic region, and I would want to spend between 100 to 200 EUR, maybe more if I can really justify it by being something amazing.

I think I want to minimize finger travel when I am hitting numbers and special characters. I program a lot so hitting parentheses and square brackets and other symbols is common (not to mention backspace, home and end keys) and requires me to leave the home row.  I think a keyboard with more buttons accessible via the thumb and raising/lowering layers.

I know how to solder and work with PCBs and microcontrollers, so kits or even more DIY doesn't scare me.  What I do worry about is spending money on something and finding out I chose poorly and need to try again (or three/four times) and losing a lot of money due to that.

I would like to look into a ortholinear layout, split, and maybe something along the lines of 4 rows of 5 keys plus the thumb cluster (sorry if I'm being really ignorant, I don't know a lot yet).
Switches probably along the line of Kailh browns, definitely tactile and a bit on the heavier side.
Use case would be mainly programming, typing documentation and a bunch of LaTeX for school. I also currently use Dvorak.

Budget is about 170 Euros, maybe up to 200. I would probably have something prebuilt, but I'm open to look into soldering a PCB myself.

I used to have mouse hand wrist issues before switching to a vertical mouse and haven't had any wrist problems since. Now the only thing that bothers me is golfers elbow (current) and tennis elbow (in the past). If I type for more than 2 hours or so a day my elbows start to burn which is pretty much every day since I'm a computer engineer.

Currently I use a Tenkeyless Ducky One2 with cherry MX blue switches. I love the keyboard but the issues persist. I have an ergodox ez as well. I never used it much....the blue switches on the board didn't feel great and I never really loved the form factor after a few weeks of trying it.

A split keyboard with tenting. I think if I could get my arms out of a pronated flexed position I could alleviate a lot of my elbow tendonitis issues.
