You can't go wrong with the Miele Classic C1 canister. A canister vacuum will be very good for hard floors. It's strong, quiet, and well built. Try one in person if you can to make sure you like how canisters move.

Check out the Miele Classic C1 $299. The suction only will be great for all the hard floors and the combo head is passing on area rugs and small carpets. It's a well built vacuum and the quality and low noise will really impress.
