Excellent find!
I've always had canister style vacuums - all Kenmore. When my last Kenmore died, I got a Shark upright. Several people I knew had them and loved it. I HATED it. It's too big, bulky, loud, HEAVY & totally awkward to use. Suction was mediocre at best. It only lasted 2 years, then the brush feature bro...
You can't go wrong with the Miele Classic C1 canister. A canister vacuum will be very good for hard floors. It's strong, quiet, and well built. Try one in person if you can to make sure you like how canisters move.
This vacuum nearly sucks the flooring off the foundation! Love it!
I LOVE this vaccuum, but beware!
No complaints at all; this is the best vacuum I've ever owned. Worth every penny and then some. Check out the Miele Classic C1 $299. The suction only will be great for all the hard floors and the combo head is passing on area rugs and small carpets. It's a well built vacuum and the quality and low noise will really impress.
Personally, with low pile carpet and hard wood, I’d recommend a Miele C1. Canisters are better for cleaning stairs typically, it has nozzles meant for hard floors and low pile carpets. It’s also a pretty robust machine.

Miele C1 Classic, if you don't want a 'spinning" type carpet cleaner on you oriental rug, its perfect for bare floors. Get the additional HEPA filter to cut down on smells since you have a pet. All under $400
The absolute best for hardwood floors
This nimble vacuum for hardwood floors and low-pile carpeting includes tools designed to do the job right. It has given one Wirecutter editor a decade of excellent, trouble-free cleaning.
Such an amazing vacuum at this price point. Buy it!
Best vacuum I've ever owned and one of the best appliances I've ever used. Such a well designed and well built precision German machine. From the silky smooth telescoping stainless steel handle, to the super quiet operation, to the auto retracting cord, it's all good stuff. I even love the way the m...
