 It'll be a great travel companion as well as a great oh shit type of tool if I do run into those situations where you need a direct signal with cabinet sound. For $150 it is a little bit more pricey than some of their other micro lines pedals. Even a little bit more than the Baby Bomb which will allow you to go to a real cabinet. But I think with the feature set, with the quality of the really nice screen, it feels really well built

 The headphone jack is killer and everything else is just cherry on top like being able to control it from PC with USB. So yeah this is definitely another winner pedal from them. I'm loving what Mooer is doing and every time I've asked for something it's been coming out. So when I first reviewed the preamp pedal I said I would love an impulse response loader in that form and here we are

 In the meantime we also checked out the TraceCab which is an older Mooer pedal and it essentially contains five different EQ profiles that try to emulate real speaker cabinets. But it doesn't really get you anywhere close to the authenticity behind impulse responses. You don't get a lot of the dynamics, still a lot of fizz, still a lot of boom that doesn't sound realistic. Enter the Mooer Radar

 The last screen which is definitely not to be overlooked is the EQ section which gives you access to a guitar and bass graphic EQ as well as a general parametric EQ and I don't find this super useful in comparison to the cabs and mics because for me if I was going to be sending this out somewhere it's probably either going to be through a mixer board with its own EQ or I'll just take care of it in a DAW but it's still nice if you don't have anything else to sculpt your tone with or you just want to get it a little bit closer to the source so the high pass and low pass features will definitely be used for that in my case. Everything else is just a cherry on top in my opinion so it does work and I'm really glad they added that option mainly for the low and high passes but if you do need it, it's there. Mooer Radar Review - Custom IRs & Real Cabinet Tones!

I have an ampless rig that makes extensive use of a Mooer Radar, an IR loader with dedicated headphone output. Sounds great.

 i turned the Radar down as low as 30%, but i had to turn up the mixer, which brought back the noise. i liked the overall tone i was getting, but not the noise. maybe mine was defective. i returned it

I tried to use this for direct recording, but with a compressor, drive pedal, and delay, there was just too much white noise hiss. even tried a noise gate, but the Radar had its own hiss that was noticeable in the mix. i turned the Radar down as low as 30%, but i had to turn up the mixer, which brought back the noise. i liked the overall tone i was getting, but not the noise

 Pretty good. And then I might want to pull out a little bit of flubbiness, so let's go around here, pull a little bit out. And then finally I might want to add a little bit of that low end again, so let's just go 1.15 and then one last thing I want to do is just… Sounds so good, right

 So, when you're adjusting this C edge what it means is the higher the number, the further away from the center it is, the less high end you're going to have, the less sort of high frequencies you're going to have. That's pretty good and then distance. Another thing with distance depending on how far away you are from the cone, in the real world you're going to capture more air and more intense resonance and that kind of thing.5, 2k area

 And then you can also store up to 36 user presets. And that is, if that wasn't enough, then you can also load your own impulse responses on it, which for me is really awesome and that's what makes this, for me, such a useful tool, because I can take this on tour, I can take this on the road, I can do remote recordings with the same IRs I use at home. It's just, I mean, to be fair, it's the size of something you can fit in your back pocket. So, I mean, I'm just already blown away by that and I was already blown away before by trying out the MUA Preamp Live

 So, let's check it out. Okay, so my signal chain is going to be PRS straight into the Kraken V4 Series preamp and then out of that into the radar. And as you can see on the close-up cam, we're gonna start, I'm gonna go through a few different cabs and then we'll try out the EQ and then I'll load in my own impulse response so you can hear how that sounds. But basically how it works is you can see on the display here these three tabs on the bottom say what's engaged on that patch

Headphone amp or pedal?

Works great on my Acoustic the eq was powerful enough to filter out some boomyness. I am using j45 iR on my J45 piezo pickup, great result. Very versatile. If they would have built in a compressor and an xlr out, I’d have given it a 11 out of 10

Let's talk about headphones

 You can run the output of the Radar into a DI box, and run that straight to front of house. No cabs, no mics, and a completely silent stage (unless of course you want a cab to use as a monitor). If you want an entire guitar rig that can fit on a small pedalboard, get the Radar plus whatever Mooer mini preamp pedals you want. You don't even need an amp at all

 And it sounds fantastic.  This is also perfect for playing live. You can run the output of the Radar into a DI box, and run that straight to front of house. No cabs, no mics, and a completely silent stage (unless of course you want a cab to use as a monitor)

This little box is absolutely incredible. I don't even play through the speaker can on my amp anymore in my bedroom. It sounds much better to run the Radar straight into my interface and use my studio monitors. I can change out cabs or power amps at will and completely change my sound as if I had a mountain of amps to choose from

 Note: I'd recommend turning off the "amp" on a patch if you are using it after an amp, as its not needed.  Compared to setting up mics it's extremely easy to use, and the sound quality it gets its really high, less noisey than a mic. I still use mics sometimes when I'm able to be loud, as nothing quite beats getting your mics set up perfectly, but that isn't always practical.  This allows me to get ideas or even tracking down with high quality, completely silently

Saves me so much headache

 What you do is use Logic X to eq match a recording of your violin/cello signal through an IR to a dry cello sound that you like. Then load the IR file itself onto an audio track and put the eq match on the IR track and bounce that, bam, you have amazing sounding violin and cello IRs to easily load on this pedal.

I play electric violin and cello and this thing sounds amazing. It’s the signal most indespensible pedal on my board. It’s so easy to use and edit. The display looks great
