Another thing that I've always really appreciated about MOTU devices that they work on both platforms equally without any issues.

However some non-audiophile people may perceive this as been boring. I recommend interface entry level Motu M2/M4 or go up to RME Babyface territory. Anything in between is an incremental upgrade and not worth it, unless there is specific features. If really want to spend money, look at the component that is the weakest and upgrade it with external unit (external headphone amp, external mic preamp etc).

MOTU M2/M4. its literally the best interface on the market atm. GOXLR has some additional features but most of them can be achieved via software. The headphone out on the MOTU is leagues ahead of every other interface.

* I am driving with these with nothing but a Motu M2 and at 2 o'clock on the headphone knob, they are plenty loud. And this interface is powered by a USB cable only! I was expecting to buy an amp, but the Motu is holding up great so I don't think I will drop another benjamin on an ATOM AMP+.

I've been using a MOTU M2 as a DAC, and it sounds just as good as my old Modius did, for a much lower price, not to mention the enormous amount of features you get with that. Basically, no, they don't sound any different. Unless the DAC is deliberately distorting the sound for some reason or nonfunctional, you won't hear a difference.
