 If we take a little bit of a look at that heatsink for the chipset it is unusual that it's actively cooled, I think they did it just to make sure it was cooled properly and you can see it's got a little integrated fan with a cable that plugs into the motherboard to power that fan, I'm not sure about acoustics of this fan but yeah we'll find out in a build video later down the line.  Hey Gear Seekers, I'm Nick, it's time to check out some more B550 boards today and we're checking out an ITX board from MSI, it's the MEG B550i Gaming Edge Wi-Fi, according to the box over there because the name is really long, I couldn't remember it and just remember ladies and gents, and I say this in every motherboard video we do on the channel, this is not a review, roll the intro. Like I mentioned in the intro, these motherboard videos are not reviews, they're just overviews so you can get an idea of what comes in the box of the brand new motherboard and the feature set of these new B550 boards, so yeah, let's check it out. Alright ladies and gents, it's time to check out the MSI MPG B550i Gaming Edge Wi-Fi, wow that is an absolute mouthful, anyway, let's get the motherboard out of the way so we can take a bit of a closer look at what's in the box with this brand new ITX B550 motherboard from MSI. First up we've got the Wi-Fi 6 antennas, this is pretty standard for all of these motherboards but I do actually prefer these dipole type of antennas to the shark fins, they're just a lot nicer, there's also two SATA cables or SATA cables for your 2

2 slots on this motherboard, there's one on the back side of the motherboard and one on the top side of the motherboard as we're about to see a little bit later in the video. There's also the quick installation guide, this is a handy little bit of documentation that will show you how to install a stock CPU cooler for both Intel and AMD socketed CPUs and it's great for a first time builder. Alright enough of that, it's time to unsheathe this new B550 ITX board so we can take a little bit of a closer look at the feature set and all of the things on the board, are you ready? Let's do it. Before You Buy!

 The motherboard is compatible with the L9A but it's not compatible with the back plate. Next we'll go to the Southbig Shuriken 3. The Southbig Shuriken 3 is not compatible with this board in its default orientation. The Noctua L12S Noctua C14S and Athlon Blackridge are all compatible with this motherboard

 Now I'm going to cover some pros and cons or my pros and cons of the board. I like the fact that it has a dedicated clear CMOS on the back panel as well as a USB type-c front panel header. I also appreciate the the minimal aesthetic of the board. I like how it looks

 As for cons I do not like the internal connector layout. It's very unusual and the motherboard has a dedicated pump fan header. Now that could be both a pro and a con as it replaces the system fan 2 header. The motherboard also doesn't include any back plate which is not unexpected but would have been nice to have

MSI B550I Gaming Edge Max Wi-Fi Review - Best Mini-ITX Motherboard?

I'm going to be moving to an itx build soon. I have a gen4 ssd and a R9 5900x. I'm stuck between the B550i strix and the b550i Aorus. The Aorus has better VRMs but the strix has a type C header. I could use an adapter for the Aorus board for the USB header I think. Which is the better board?

I bought this motherboard to use in a SFF kit with an NZXT Kraken M22 AIO CPU cooler, and as mentioned in other reviews, the backplate that comes with the AIO won't work on this board because of the chips on the back (the backplate that comes with the board has cutouts to clear these chips). And, that AIO will not work with the backplate included with the motherboard. The case I'm using will only fit a 120mm radiator setup, so rather than return the AIO and try to find another of that size with a backplate that will work, I'm going to have to return the motherboard and get one that fits standard backplates.

Will not work with all CPU coolers

2. But here's the biggest gripe with this board, and this one is really a head-scratcher, and this board does not have your typical backplate. You'll see three cutouts on the MSI one, and the keepout zone is not your typical AM4 type, like with this. If you're absolutely certain you will only use coolers that use the included backplate, that's fine, but many coolers don't, like this Cooler Master backplate here

 Now if all clock boosts matter to you, then I think this one is a touch more temperamental, although for real world performance it really will be hard to distinguish. As for board features, it's fairly competitive with the rest of the B550ITX boards, with a front and back M.2 slot, 5 USB 8 ports with 2 of these USB 2, 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1, and 1 Gen 2 supporting up to 10 gigabits per second, and there is also a Gen 2 USB-C port at the back

 This would absolutely not work with this, because it's going to go over those components, and lots of custom liquid cooling and AIO solutions use proprietary backplates as well, which are not going to work with this board. So this is quite limiting for upgrading and trying new things out. This socket does sit pretty high up. It's identical to the Gigabyte's position, and that meant the U12A was touching the fan grille with the NR200 test setup here

 This one here is the MSI Gaming Edge Wi-Fi B550ITX, and this one was requested by some of our viewers, so thanks again for suggesting this one for review. For the Gigabyte Aorus board, the pros were the build quality, the power delivery, passive board cooling, and the cons were the odd board layout, the lack of a USB-C front header. The ASUS Strix kind of picks up where the Gigabyte left off with an excellent board layout, a USB-C front header, a low CPU socket position for better compatibility, but so-so power stages here complemented by an active cooling fan. Now just to be fair, any of these boards will run even the 3950X or 5950X at stock without issue, but if you're looking for a decent compromise on specs alone, you might be drawn to the MSI board here, and this one has an A plus two VRM setup with 60 amp stages

the motherboard worked as expected for the most part except for Bluetooth which is completely messed up. The signal is constantly being interrupted by something on the motherboard that I could not figure it. The Bluetooth problem has been a on-going issue for b550I boards.

The next “best” mobo is the crosshair viii impact. In addition to the compatible front io ports, it has bios flashback and what seems to be better m.2 cooling. Everything else is the same compared to the crosshair from what I know.

Would there be other solutions that would allow me to utilize all of the front io ports without having to buy the crosshair viii impact?

Just a note, I don’t mind spending 200+ for this mobo if it comes down to it because I’m already spending this much on the whole thing. 

I’m not really sure of any other solutions that’ll enable me to use the all of the front io’s.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
