To use the ring, you lift the lid, snap the ring into place, pull the bag down through the bottom, make sure the end is tied, and then once the bag is full, you use the bag cutter at the top to cut the bag, tie it, and then dispose of it. I was really hoping that for $65 this pail would work better than it does. Our baby hasn’t been born yet BUT I’ve been putting our toddlers diapers in it to see how it works and I can definitely smell them. I even go the extra step(s) and put the stinky diapers in those baking soda disposable bags, knot them and then put them in and I also have an airwick plugged in right next to the pail and with all that I can still smell it. It’s worse when the door to the nursery is shut - which it will be anyways frequently when I’m nursing or baby is asleep

 Particularly disruptive during nighttime diaper changes. I thought it was happening because the bag was full but it happens even when the bag is empty, probably half the time we close the lid. We'll probably be replacing this soon; I can't imagine putting up with the sound for another 2 years.

One of the best "value pails" we've used

 We will likely end up tossing it in the trash along with the diapers soon enough. No one wants to invite people in to their house when it smells like dirty diapers.

 Plus, the previous diaper pail was the ONLY one that could fend off the stench my two sons leave behind. Within the first 2 months of use the top stopped spinning. By that point I could no longer return or replace it at the store. Now, it smells up my entire house

I purchased this pail and love everything about - EXCEPT for the fact that I can’t use it due to an awful grinding noise when you try to close the pail. Therefore it’s not noise efficient for middle of the night diaper changes, nor does it keep your nursery scent free since you will want to avoid closing it at all to avoid the noise. I contacted the manufacturer and they assured me it was a defective item after I explained the issue and sent pictures of the pail I was using. They very nicely sent me a replacement, and I donated the previous one (after two weeks of use)
