Looking for recemondations for a sleeping gear for a larger woman. I took my wife car camping this weekend and even with the sleeping bag and mat she was very cold and uncomfortable.   It's expensive. Sure, you're paying for quality and comfort, so I understand that these things can't be given away..

  It's huge. Yeah, that's unavoidable due to what it is, but it might matter to anyone trying to use this on an extended camping trip, or for vehicle camping. It can be squished pretty low after rolling up if you're careful, and this is the most minor complaint I could drum up for this review.

 but one and a half Bennies is what I would expect to pay for something that has to be kept very carefully to avoid damaging. Don't be fooled, no matter how durable the construction and materials of any air mattress are, if you do carelessly use it on anything but a clean, fairly smooth surface it will develop punctures and be a pain to fix properly. So, while it is pretty durable it's really only a slightly better-than-average twin XL air bed from Wally World, which are usually less than half the cost.  Overall I hope this will last a little longer than average, and frankly it is a very comfortable air mattress, but for the price I will probably buy something with a more solid core if I need to in the future

Nemo Roamer XL 5 month Review

I knew this would be an issue but I genuinely thought it wouldn't be as much an issue as it was. 

I can't sleep on my back, I have an eye thing that means I try to avoid looking up as best I can (rip star gazing) and so I sleep on my sides and chest. 

I was worried that I'd have trouble sleeping on my side in a mummy sleeping bag due to space, I wasn't worried about the quality of sleep.

Finally, *finally* went camping this past weekend, and I had a lot of trouble sleeping. I don't think it was all due to discomfort but it definitely played a part.

So, my question for value of purchase - what would do me the best to improve quality of sleep for sleeping on my sides (where my arm is incredibly unfortable) or chest (where my chest felt a little too compressed)?

I have a self inflating pad but it clearly didn't create a soft enough space, and I'm not expecting to get bed quality comfort. But all I can think of for now is getting one of those egg carton pads or just a second actual pad (or maybe thicker/higher quality one) but I don't want to invest without doing a little research, which this is a part of.

I appreciate it. I really want to continue camping, and I don't want this to ruin it for me. If I go car camping again I'll probably just bring an army supply of blankets but I can't always count on that.

How to make sleeping more comfortable?

 Packed size correlates with the density of the foam. So again, a trade off. The REI packs the biggest, as expected, due to it's denser foam. But it's not much different than the Therm-A-Rest

  Weight: Nemo is the lightest, as expected, due to the foam. It's all relative. But given that none of them are for backpacking, and there is not a huge difference in weight, I don't find this to be a significant category.  Ease of rolling up: Nemo wins

I currently use the Nemo Roamer XL. Which I know is 5 pounds. Like I said I am a picky sleeper. It's a very comfortable mat

   Since we got this for car camping, we are going to get a pump for inflation.  That should solve the problem.
