We’ll start by saying that the Switchback from Nemo is not the right choice for those looking for a cushy and comfortable sleeping pad. You get a little less than an inch of closed-cell foam, along with a reflective coating designed to capture radiant heat. But we love this pad for two very important reasons: it’s cheap at just $55 for the regular version, and it will never pop. Despite the very thin and simplistic nature of foam, we’ll take the Switchback over a $150+ air pad with a hole any day. Plus, it’s incredibly versatile: use it as a seat around camp, sub it in for your pack’s foam backpanel to save weight, or slide it under your air or self-inflating pad for additional warmth or protection. Heck, we even use our foam pad to keep dinner or water warm (wrapping it around the pot) in our camp kitchen.

Compared to the uber-popular and long-standing Therm-a-Rest Z Lite SOL below, the Switchback wins out in most ways. For the same price, the Nemo is thicker (0.9 in. compared to 0.75 in.) yet packs down to the same size. We also think it’s a touch more comfortable, although it's a close call between the two. All that said, you’ll still feel rocks and roots beneath you much more than with the pricier air options above and below, and with an R-value of just 2 it won’t keep you insulated from the cold ground outside of the summer months. But as a versatile add-on or a dedicated UL pad that won’t pop, the Switchback is a great piece of gear to add to your kit.See the Nemo Switchback

An Emo Switchback Insulated Regular New Foam Pad Closed Cell phone This is my first review. This new Nemo Switchback Insulated Regular is like many other closed cell foam pads from other brands. The way to go if you want to go light and without the doubt of losing air in your inflatable sleeping pad. I've just received this one I purchased it myself I'm looking forward to try this one out early on

 I'll test it in the same ways as I've done with the therm-a-rest and I've also used this therm arrest when it was quite cold outside it may be -5 degrees centigrade. I've used it as an extra pad underneath my A Civic Air Pad just because the rating on the A Civic Air pad is maybe not so good. and this one definitely helps a lot. Reflecting the heat back to you, even though it's a little bit old and the aluminium foil is gone, then it still works

 and the Nemo switchback I thought it was gonna be lighter, but unfortunately not. It's 50 grams heavier than the therm-a-rest A big difference between the two. What I've noticed is that they have coated the pads on opposite sides so the Nemo you're supposed to sleep on the orange side. so the aluminium foil here is or the coating is gonna be facing downwards and on the therm arrests its opposite

 This, you can use it as a sit pad also like this, or you can use it higher. You can nearly use it as a stool when you're out backpacking just sitting completely folded like this. It gives you a little bit of height maybe when you're cooking or something like that in my tent. I Use it as a small kind of area where I can put my stuff in the vestibule and so it's gonna be the same with the new switchback

Nemo Switchback - Review and comparison

My Big Agnes Q Core pad is really comfortable and light, but I mostly hike in the desert SW and Rockies. Managed to puncture my pad when I did Grand Gulch in the Spring (likely a cactus needle in my sock).  The next trip out, I spent a miserable, cold, sleepless night on the ground. I’m  thinking about switching to a closed-cell foam pad since most of the time I’m backpacking in environments with cactus or rock/prickly plants. Would welcome input from anyone who made the switch.
