 we've got a door back here and all you have to do to really either get privacy or protect you from some weather is take these windows and put them up so you can put them up on both sides. And this back door is really convenient too. So as you can see, we've got that waterproof fabric there in front of the door. We haven't just rolled back kind of halfway, but you can open this up all the way to you, roll back that side and you've got more breathability there

 We've got the partition wall rollback so you can see the rest of the tent here and something that I really like is the different ways to use this tent. So as you can see, we've got big mesh windows here. we've got a door back here and all you have to do to really either get privacy or protect you from some weather is take these windows and put them up so you can put them up on both sides. And this back door is really convenient too

 as you can see I'm in the corner of the tent and I have all the room that I need so you can really get up to six campers in here. but I can see this being a great tent for a smaller number of people that really just want to spread out. with all of the features that you get here. you've got the modular design

In my searches I see lots of great tents that would foot the bill, but are 6 person. The 4 person versions of the same tents would (naturally) have a lower height. Since the tent would only be used by two people max, a 6 person is way overkill.

I see some like the Eureka Jade Canyon or Space Camp, but desire a little more quality. And an REI Kingdom 4 is a possibility, but some leaky rainfly reviews are scaring me off a bit.

What other recommendations have you got? I am seriously leaning towards a Marmot Torreya 4, but wish it were just a hair taller. Again, I could go up to the Torreya 6, but that is overkill.

Canvas, for now, is out. But when I retire, I'm sure I'll own one.

Hey gear enthusiasts. I'm hoping to tap into the collective knowledge on this subreddit to help me choose a tent.

A lifetime ago, I used to do tons of backcountry and expeditionary camping and knew the ins and outs of all the gear out there. But that was...a lifetime ago. Now as a 30-some-odd father of a five year old kiddo who is (finally) showing interest in camping, I'm in the market for a good six-person-ish tent.

I'd put in some research and finally settled on a tent; the Marmot Halo 6....only to discover they are discontinued and am now back at second-guessing between a few choices. I hope all of you more knowledgeable folks might help push me in the right direction.

*The specifics:* 

**Location**: We live in the PNW and are expecting to do about 70/30 camping along the coast of southern Washington, Oregon and Northern California, with occasional forays into the Cascades. As such, a big requirement is weather durability. I'm looking for a true 3-season tent that can stand up to rain as well as decent wind. We won't be camping in gale-force winds or anything, but pacific coast can have 20-30mph wind whip up with little warning.

**Occupants**: The tent needs to house two adults, a wiggly five year old and three (...yes, three) big (60lbs+) dogs. The dogs are great at camping so I'm not worried about them going through the mesh in search of squirrels or anything like that, but I do want the tent to be durable, especially on the floor, so errant dog nails don't turn the thing into swiss cheese.

Size-wise, I was thinking something along the 70-90sqft area. Enough to fit a queen air mattress, a cot/twin air mattress and a few dog beds. We set up my older Kelty 4.2 tent in the back yard and were able to get the humans comfy, but the dogs where left out in the metaphorical cold, so six-person tent seems to be the way to go. Gear storage is not a big concern, as we'll have the car nearby.

**Camping style**: Car camping all the way; the wife eye-daggered me to death when I suggested long-distance hiking with the five year old. As such, the tent is going to be primarily a place to hang out, sleep, maybe play a few games if the weather is crummy. We have tons of toys we bring along, but all of that is going to be living/on in the car and not the tent.

*The contestants:* So, due to the wind requirement, I eliminated high-rise tents like the REI Kingdom and Eureka Copper CanyonLX6 or other similar non-dome tents. 

I knocked out the North Face Wawona due to its focus on the big gear storage space at the cost of living space, and also because I read that its kinda crummy in rainy weather (a big no-no for costal climates).

I also knocked off pretty much all the Coleman tents because they seem to be pretty low quality. Lots of reviews and anecdotal folks saying they have cheap material, need long time to dry, can't keep up with multi-day camping trips, etc. Dunno if that's true...but that's why I'm here!

That left me with the aforementioned and discontinued Marmot Halo 6 (sad face) and REI Basecamp 6, the Marmot Limestone 6P and...ummm....yeah. Of the two, the Basecamp seems to be the better one, but neither is blowing me away like the Marmot Halo 6 did. 

Price isn't really a concern; I'd like to stick in the $600 or less range, but can go higher if there's something that's just the bees knees out there. I do want an emphasis on high quality, durable, and long-lasting.

So, my questions to all of you folks smarter than me - what's your recommendation for a six-person, 3-season, durable, high-quality car-camping focused family tent that can stand up to the weather of the pacific northwest. Are the Basecamp and Limestone really the only two main options? Are there others that I missed and should look at? Should I just buy two high quality 4-person tents and attempt to Frankenstein them together? (joking...I hope...)

We are a family of four ages 10 and up, and a small dog and we are looking for a good tent. We live in Maine so it will need to work well for both hot days and cool nights and high humidity. 

I've never bought myself a tent and have mostly inherited them from others or we also had one as a wedding gift.

Best value tent for small family.

 I had a general idea of the size and chose the 6P so it would easily accommodate the queen size blow up mattress that we have, that 10 years ago I would have made fun of us for having, and also enough room for our Labrador retriever who is always muddy and wet to spread out in without getting our stuff wet and muddy. There is also a great screened in porch that is big enough for friends to sit in and hang out in while hiding from the bugs.

Roomy and comfortable, well designed

Rei Kingdom 6p. Nemo Wagontop. If you have the budget stay away from Coleman. For smaller tents I would looks at the Marmot Tungsten, Limelight and Vapor 4p depending on if this is for summer only, 3 season or more colder camping

I need some help deciding on a 4p freestanding tent for car camping. I'll mostly be camping in California so a 3 season tent is fine for me with decent protection from the elements. I'm stuck between 3 options at the moment: Big Agnes Big house 4, TNF Wawona 4, and Marmont Tungsten. I also looked at the REI Trail Hut 4 but I could not find any reviews for it, although I liked the included footprint.

4 Person Tent for Car Camping in 2021

Just what we needed

 You will have to upgrade to a 6p tent to get this usually, which is why I am getting the Torreya 6p instead of the 4p.

Looking for a ten that has room enough for two but still spacious without being over the top huge. I have a two man tent which is great for just sleeping in. But if it's raining it's not something you want to be stuck in all day. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If this isn't the right sub for this please let me know of a better place and I will delete and move there.
