 As the heatsink does not have enough cooling surface area to dissipate all the heat, also the fan can do so much with a size of just 92mm. However, the NH-L9i did cool the i9 with factory settings, so it is doing good so far. However, the next test is where every CPU cooler is pushed to its limits, because this test uses the FPU stability benchmark. This benchmark places an unrealistically high load on the CPU, something that you will only encounter if you do heavy video rendering with the CPU as a main render unit

 Each of the heatpipes has an outer diameter of approximately 6mm. The heatpipes are made from nickel-plated copper to not only add more depth to the design of the heatsink but also to increase the overall longevity of the materials. The shape of the heatpipes is still the standard U-shape to not only allow for the heatpipes to make good contact with the baseplate of the cooler but also to make contact with all the cooling fins evenly. The baseplate of the cooler is also made from solid nickel-plated copper and has a flat surface with a radial sunburst pattern etched into its surface

 The fit and finish of this baseplate is one of the best on the market and again, it is on the same level as the base found on the NH-D15. The accessories included with this cooler are pretty much what you need and nothing else. You get a total of four thumb screws, a tube of Noctua NT-H1 thermal compound, a case badge, a user manual and a low noise speed adapter to lower the maximum speed of the fan. The installation of this cooler is very simple

 The build quality of the heatsink is on the same level as high-end CPU coolers such as the Noctua NH-D15. Speaking of the heatsink, it has a total of around 55 aluminium-made cooling fins. These fins are quite thick and not as fragile as they might look. The NH-L9I has just two copper-made heatpipes

.  The lapping job on the bottom of the cooler, which interfaces directly with the CPU, is terrible! Not only are there visible ridges, but you can actually FEEL them if you run your finger across the surface. I'm accustomed to Zalman and Thermaltake coolers which have a mirror-smooth finish, and by comparison the base of this cooler is terrible. Concentric milling marks cover the surface and I have no doubt that this significantly affects the cooler's performance

 The unit seems solidly built and would appear to be built from high quality materials. The fan is ugly, but moves air very efficiently and quietly. Mounting this cooler couldn't be much simpler: there are no complicated backplates or nervously tight levers, just four screws that feed from the back of the motherboard into the "feet" of the cooler. The cooler comes with a case badge and a copious amount of thermal grease (probably enough for a dozen applications), though I used Arctic Silver 5

Amazing Small Cooler With One Big Flaw

 The idle temperature stayed at a maximum of 41 degrees Celsius. This was done using the Intel BurnTest V2 benchmark. However, when the AIDA64FPU stability test was tried, the temperature spiked to over 100 degrees Celsius which caused the CPU to instantly throttle down. While you might say that 89 degrees Celsius is a lot, let me ask you once again to take a look at the size of this cooler

 Obviously, with a lower TDP CPU, the performance is even better for this little NH-L9i and the fan will spin at a lower speed. The price for this new Chrome as Black edition is 50 US dollars or euros and for that you get a very good CPU cooler that will fit most, if not all, small form factor motherboards and cases, while also providing a good cooling for the CPU. CPU- 12600K (10 core/16 Thread) heavily undervolted & OC'ed to all-core 4.7ghz on P-Cores & 3.7ghz on E-Cores w/ cache @ 40x, tops out around 75c in BFV 64P MP, around 60-65c all other games @ 1440P/4K, in the 90's after multiple runs of Cinebench R23. CPU Cooler- Noctua L9i 17xx w/ washer mod on CPU socket bracket (mod= more headroom on temps)

 Coming back to the fan used on here. This NF-A9X14 high speed fan is spinning at up to 2500 RPM, while pushing roughly 33 CFM at 2.11 millimeters of H2O. Perfectly good specs considering its ridiculous size

 But when it comes to the Shuriken 2, which performs better in every regard as long as it can fit. Being 58mm high, the Shuriken is clearly higher than many RAM sticks out there and may create clearance issues depending on what ultra mini tiny box of carton that you are coming in. Granted, there are not a lot of cases out there that will not fit a Shuriken, but still, the L9i is more compatible. So for me, comparing a Noctua L9i to a Shuriken 2 really boils down to a simple question

 That's shocking. Noise normalizing our results really emphasizes the L9i's superiority compared to a Black Ridge even more. While the L9i is completely outperformed by the Shuriken 2 in every regard, this graph showcases how far the Black Ridge really is behind. Due to the L9i's relatively silent fan, the L9i outperformed the Albinfield by quite the margin with about a 5 dB difference

I got this to cool my mini itx build as a normal cooler just wouldn’t fit in the case I chose. Understand that this cooler is not intended for high end gaming computers. I installed this on a computer that I use strictly for 4K streaming and everyday computer tasks on my living room TV. I do have a 7700k so it does run warm at 35C-40C at idle and 55C-70C under a decent load

 I attempted a benchmark just to see how hot it would get and at 100% load the temps were 90C and rising. I’ll never use the cpu at 100% load so I’m not worried about it too much. Also, it probably would get better temps in a case with more room and air flow so your mileage may vary. As for the noise level, if the computer was sitting next to me on a desk it might be a bit noisy, but from 8 feet away on my couch it’s not an issue

 So how did it perform? Let's take a look. All right, results were pretty much what I expected. Now, the first thing we can see from this is these new Intel chips run nice and cool. This is pretty much a very similar result to what I saw even on my 4790K when I was testing that out with some different coolers

 So first things first, you open it up. Very impressive, very impressive. You've got the CPU cooler laid out right there. I've got a glass table, you may see the cat

 And that's what you want in a cooler like this, because more than likely, this is gonna be going into like a home theater PC build or a really small form factor build, but you're not gonna have a lot of space between where your CPU's mounted and the outside of the case, or the edge of the case. So, I have to say, really impressed with this. I think Noctua did a very good job. I can see why this is such a popular choice
