 With a launch price of 600 US dollars it cost the same as the company's previous generation flagship the 7900 GTX though the 8800 was such a beast back in the day that some review sites even concluded that a single one of these was as powerful if not more so than two aforementioned 7900s in SLI. A card like this meant that even the most demanding games out there would run maxed out with resolutions up to and including 2560 by 1600. This power came at a cost though and I'm not just talking price. While it's not uncommon today to see two or maybe in some instances three six pin connectors atop a graphics card, back then the presence of two 75 watt connectors would have certainly been a new sight to some demonstrating just how thirsty this 155 watt TDP card was

 Aesthetically speaking this card is also very long with this particular model having been pulled from an old school Dell XPS 420 gaming system likely meaning it spent most of its life paired with a core 2 quad. Before we check out the performance let's look under the hood so to speak. Removing the massive heatsink reveals the huge G80 graphics chip and also gives us an opportunity to remove any dust from the board and reapply a fresh coat of thermal paste. Essential maintenance for any second-hand PC component

 That's an important distinction because you can play this in either DX 9 or DX 10 though DX 10 will of course take a bit more of a toll on your system so to maximize performance I switched everything over to DX 9 and we were able to achieve at least 60 frames per second on average which I feel is a very respectable result. Far Cry 2 is one of those classics that once you start playing it you really can't put it down and it's an ideal title to run on this card so definitely check it out if you have an older card and aren't sure if you can run it. Of course a relatively modern title that also runs on DirectX 10 is Grand Theft Auto 5 although I did have to turn things down to 720p we were able to achieve an average frame rate of 47 fps which was actually quite surprising considering the hardware and considering that we only had 768 megabytes of VRAM to play with. Even on the lowest settings or the normal in-game settings according to GTA we did exceed that VRAM limit so we couldn't really turn things up higher than normal although I expect you could turn things up a little more and still achieve closer to 30 frames per second at 720p but I found that keeping everything on low here was definitely the best way to go

 Now while we're on the theme of jungles and open worlds I decided to play Far Cry 2 once again at 1080p full HD. Here I left things on the medium presets and ran the game in DirectX 9 mode.  It launched one year earlier in November of 2006 and offered outstanding performance but at a high price. It launched for around 600 USD. It is built on a quite large 90nm manufacturing process. We have two 6-pin PCI Express power connectors, it is a dual slot graphics card and PCI Express 1

 It is a single slot video card and it supports PCI Express 2.0. It has a little bit less video memory, 512 MB and in terms of performance it is not quite as fast as the 8800 GTX but close enough. However what really made this video card so legendary is the price

5 GB, so we are adding an Ethernet controller to make the installation of games and benchmarks a little bit faster. We have a 750 Watt power supply from Thermaltake sitting idle on the desktop, 68 Watt for the entire computer, running CPU-Z on all cores, 111 Watt and running CPU-Z, the stress test in the benchmark as well as gaming crisis, 172 Watt. First up we have Half Life 2, that's an older game and at full HD with all the details maxed out over 200 FPS, so excellent performance with older games. Race Driver Grid is next, this is also an older game

5 gigabit Ethernet makes a difference installing games and benchmarks happens really fast and of course, you want to use a SSD and yeah, that's it for this video guys. Let's go Okay, let's start counting our FPS here in the deathmatch Of course in competitive play you got a few more effects going on like the the smoke effects and stuff like that So it might be a little bit just slightly more demanding very beautiful FPS you could you could run a high refresh rate 720p monitor maybe 1080p sometimes it will drop from 60 as you could see right there

 It's like 5 FPS slower than the 710 Which is still okay for a 2007 GPU But I thought it will do a little bit better here in GTA 5 because I already tested the 9800 GT and that was Getting like 30 plus FPS all of the time. Although these are pretty damn decent for a GPU this hold Especially you can't really complain it plays GTA 5 if you play at 800 by 600 will be an even better experience And GPU utilization is not the greatest because well, it's old the drivers are kind of outdated and it was just not Optimized to play GTA 5. Of course GTA 5 came out on PC in 2015 and This GPU was already eight years old So it's good that it still plays it with 30 plus FPS on average not too bad guys not to get get the heck Goddamn bastards every single time couple of stutters may. Oh my god Okay, okay

 Yes, it is. There we go. This is the faster version There's also a DDR2 model that I was scared of buying because usually I always buy the lower-end stuff But no, this is the normal 8800 GT with 512 megabytes of VRAM The test system consists of a Ryzen 7 3700X and 16 gigs of RAM The latest drivers available for it are 342.01 and I'm running it with a Ryzen 7 3700X and 16 gigs of RAM Now this is of course overkill for a GPU like this But I'm only testing the GPU so as long as we don't bottleneck it with a slower CPU It's just gonna perform like it should

 It didn't run that great but now with the GTX and some more memory and more power yeah we can finally play Ritz Racer. Don't ask how because this thing only runs on 30 fps and that is not the way you want to play. Still when you're looking at the image it looks quite nice but when you're playing it you're missing the speed because this game is based on speed and you're missing it out. So in my opinion it's fun to play it like this but it is missing out the elements of the game

 Basically I call this the Tosti Irons because these things were getting really hot and we will see that in this video. But nevertheless fun fact that I never bought this car brand new because back in the day these cars were crazy expensive. The smaller version was quite expensive and GTX was more like the beefcake edition of the 8800 GTX edition. It's a beautiful car and nowadays it's more like a museum piece but I can really appreciate old technology

 So it's more like going all the way to 24, going up to 50, the fps is in all places. So is this game playable? I think no this is not the way how you need to play this game. Okay guys so a quick short gameplay of Bioshock Infinite. Let's see how this game runs

8800GTX in 2021 Unboxing $600 Graphic Card from 2006 😄

 Can it run Crysis? Well, to answer the question, I fired up the game at 1080p with high settings and I found the answer to be, well, no, not really. We only averaged 27 frames per second, which really isn't terrible. And to be fair, I could lower the resolution and drop the settings, but come on, this is Crysis, not Sims 3. You gotta man up

 Next up is CSGO. Since I'm terrible at this game, I loaded up a professional match on the train level, which appears to be one of the most demanding levels I've seen thus far. At the medium preset with no AA and 16x AF, we saw an average frame rate of 53. Also frame times didn't look that great in some areas of the map, but I also wanted to make a mention that in less demanding maps, our frame rate was well over 60fps

 With the medium preset, the 8800 GTX averaged 41 frames per second. I was surprised how well frame times looked as well, and it didn't even max out the available VRAM. I was very impressed with how this card performed in this title. Next up, I wanted to test Paladins

 Next up is Tomb Raider from 2013. Here we used the normal preset and tested with the built-in benchmark. We averaged 38 frames per second and noticed great frame times as well. This game still looks great at these settings and I would certainly call it playable
